$250 x 40hrs = $10,000/week. Plus 250 x 1.5 (time and a half) = $375 x 20 hrs = 7500
$10,000 + $7,500 = 17,500 for 60hrs work for a week. thats $910,000/year for working in iraq. You said you earned 4 x less that in the US divide that by 4 and it gives you $227,500USD You dont need to go over to iraq if you already earn around $227,500. |

I know people that did it, and I think it was really difficult for those that have families here.
It's not just hard for your family, but it would be really hard on you too, to be away from them for so long. If you weren't married, or you were divorced/separated, and you didn't have kids, then it would be a different story. Whatever you decide....good luck. |

I think he meant $250,000 for 1 year, not $250 per hour.
But hey, if it is nearly 1 million, call me and I'll send my husband with you. Y'all can be friends. Shoot I'll go too. Actually, even then dunno if it would happen. My kids need parents and 1 yr is a long time to miss. Last edited by Hannainnc; 09-25-2006 at 06:11 AM. |

ON the topic though, Jlo, screw it, no need for taking risks once you have a family. If you were single, hell yea, go. But with a family, those kids deserve to not have to worry about you every day you are there. I say pass bro, but I wish you the best no matter what you do |

JLo,
In reality, you have less a chance of dying on Camp Victory than you do in Cincinnati, San Antonio, or whatever (especially driving drunk - drive drunk, go to jail). If you're unlucky enough to get hit in the head by a mortar, you're just unlucky and you could get struck by lightning. With the OT, you'd be looking at about 300k. Think about retirement dude. I know better than anyone that it sucks, but it does go by fast... b |

lol - what's up Boyd! It isn't really the danger that is keeping me from going.........it is the other things like:
- my wife would probably divorce me (pretty big one there)...lol - being without my kids for a year would be hell - my wife would have a pretty tough time being a single mom with 2 kids for a year It's cool though - I'll have a much better shot of convincing her to move to Texas anyway.........I'll be raking in the cash that way too, right?

If you move your ass down here. Easy money here and plenty of it to go around.
Divorce? Wasn't it you that said "Dude, what will I tell my wife?" Oh, my bad, that was your boy... Hey man, that kid that was in front of us at the concert with that girl's shirt off comes to my house on Saturday to watch UT play. lol Poker TONIGHT! |

I had a few offers like that too... 1 was like $190K and the last was $250K for 1 year... My wife pretty much said F that and if I went, papers would be filed... I don't blame her though...
But if I was single, I'd go for a year or more... that is easy money!

Jloz - I assume you turned it down? I was there too - Victory Base Complex is large - but, to say there is no danger there is false. Mortars and rockets are a fairly common occurrance - this was as of earlier this year.
Its Iraq. There's danger - that is why they pay so much. VBC is composed of numerous bases - and anyone can find aerial photos if you search the web and click on the right sites. You'll then see Baghdad just to the North and NorthEast......bordering the complex, the International Airport, etc. There's alot of $$ to be made in contracting over there. Hell, the guy running the chow hall is making over 100k for his year, the one I knew was a retired Army E-7. There are others making double, triple, quadruple, six and seven times that ... depends on the job.
