Workplace Behavior! - BodybuildingForYou

I don't know if this subject belongs in this forum but I will let the Mods decide that...

So I am going out with this girl. We met a couple of weeks ago. We slept together on the first date (that's the first time that's happened to me: sex on the first date). Anyway, I received an email from her a couple of days ago where she mentioned she didn't liked to be referred to as "kiddo" in our email exchanges. It was then I realized that we weren't close emotionally (at least not yet) and that I should have been addressing her properly. Now I have a habit of referring to women as "chicks" when I am with friends, etc. Its not because I feel they are inferior or anything. Its just a playful way of saying it. My real question, however, has to do with the workplace. This girl has made me think of how I interact with my coworkers. I often comment on colleagues clothes in an offhand, campy sort of way. And I compliment both males and females, "Nice shoes, man!", "You are all green today, Silvana! Looking good!", etc. always with a smile.

Anyone have any experience with a coworker where someone told you not to do that? Y'know...don't call me this or that, don't say this or that.

Just want to curb my enthusiasm before I go overboard

You call a girl you have been intimate with "kiddo??" Thats a little weird. I dont blame her.

Well, I didn't call her "kiddo" in person, only in an email I sent to her

Nevertheless, in future, I am going to just stick to "Sweetie" or something mainstream like that...if it ever gets to that point.

I'm with you??? You never call a girl something like Kiddo unless you are alot older than her. I wouldn't like someone calling me that either.. Better choice of words next time!!!

I would assume she works with you.. The comments at the workplace seem harmless. I give and get them all the time.. No harm intended!!! right?

Oh no, she is not my coworker! I have never dated a coworker. Her remark about not being referred to a certain way just made me pause and take stock...of how I generally address people, starting at the workplace.

...that's what I thought

No harm intended. Its a subtle way of socializing and remaining approachable without taking significant company time. That's how I see it.

lol@kiddo, horrible choice of words for the girl you are dating. Stick to the basics i.e., honey, sweetie and baby and you'll be fine.

I call people kiddo all the time. But I only do it to be condescending.

hmmm. once again kiddo prob wasnt the best :P. although i always call ppl "kids". even my parents, the kids i coach, sometimes my friends...its meant to b more funny then anything, although i'm usually the only 1 laughing :P...lol

Depends on the age/context of where you are at and the type of place you work in. In my last couple of jobs the mechanics knew my dad and watched me 'grow up'...so I didn't think twice about having any of them call me 'kiddo' or Ams like my parents did.

But...no one that is younger than me can get away with kiddo. And no one that isn't close to me can call me Ams.

Most of my male co-workers over the years have called me by my first name. (Amy) One older guy called me hun alot and it used to crack me up for some reason. And on yeah...many of my male co-workers have had a habit of calling me 'legs'.

I don't get offended. I'm used to it. It's followed me since highschool.

I've used 'kids' in group settings more than a few times...but I was a leader for quite a while of adult and teen groups. It was my way of grabbing the groups attention as in "hey kids..."

There was a time when being called 'kiddo' by a bedmate would have pissed me off to no end. But at this point in my life it would probably send me into a fit of laughter. I've lightened up a bit with age. I find things amusing that used to completely irritate me.

I can't remember the last time my husband called me hanna, he calls me hon, honey, sweetie, babe...mostly hon. I hate being called babe, so he rarely calls me that, the worst is being called "baby". I call him by his name or hon, so much that our daughter has started calling him hon instead of daddy. I also call him dude sometimes and he absolutely hates being called dude.

Sometimes when we are on the phone and I know his friends are around I get him to call me pookie wookie...hahaha...I'm so evil.

If he called me kiddo I would be a bit offended and let him know that I was not his "kiddo" and he should remember to refer to me as princess or master.

that's such a load of crap...hahahaha
