I respect any overweight people who make the effort to lose the extra weight. It takes hard work and dedication much like bodybuilders put the hard effort into building muscle mass. I have little to no respect for obese people who disbelieve that the weight can come off so sit on their arses moaning or those who wait for liposuction/surgery to shed their weight for them.

I live with someone that is obese. They have some health issues; fibromyalgia, degenerative arthritis, ligmentatia, herniated c3 & 4 spinal disks causing pain from the shoulders down their back. Now, the degeneration of this persons health is the quandry. Did the body fail because of a lack of physical activity or did the injuries sustained when younger have anything to do with it? But as far as "making fun" of obese people, nah! Not something I would do or would consider. Now, I am with you Caferacer on those that hit the gym or are walking or biking. I don't care if you were spandex and a tube top while you are 650lbs. You are at least trying. What kills me, is that many obese people get so discouraged after only a short time in the gym. I can not deal with anyone that does not have the drive to see something through. Regardless of weight.

OMG - that was awesome! My favorite lines......
"Hey, Wide Load, ever try a real exercise program and a real, sensible diet? Ever try the Stop-Eating-Fvcking-Oreos Diet? How about the Stop-Eating-Sh1t-You-Know-Is-Bad-For-You Plan? I hear that works. Ever try being consistent for more than three days? " |

Don't get me wrong, I don't go out of my way to make fun of them. But there have been a few times in my gathering of friends I meet from my HS, where an overweight one comes and makes comments about me being on steroids. So I have no hesititation to do what I do best, which is be an asshole. Most times everyone ends up laughing and their pride is crushed, and I don't care. Quote:
""Oh, I've tried everything." Noooooo, you starved for six days, then ate a bucket of ice cream and cried. Why don't you eat healthy for six months and do some exercises besides laps between the couch and the kitchen? Bet you haven't tried that. "

its a pretty harsh article...but that doesnt mean i dont agree with it...it is basically everything i think and it is blunt about it...i gotta love when im over my one friends house and his huge mom is trying to catch her breathe because she just walked up 8 steps...im sure there are som dieseases that make you gain weight ( i dont know what but maybe they exist ) but there is something to be said about that too...if u dont eat 1000 cals a day and dont play video games all day u wont get fat...if u have a slow metabolism then u eat less...thats my views anyway correct me if im wrong

i'm wouldn't say that i'm prejudiced but i am hard on them, especially inactive people like my family. i tell them if they did a little more exercising or just moving around they'll feel better.
i'm pretty harsh on my teammates but i just have to understand that it isn't that serious

Haha, that article is harsh, but in many ways true. I gree with the majority here, I have tonnes of respect for fat people in the gym that are working hard.
What gets me is when I hear fat people bragging about the new diet they are on. They just like people to think they are trying so they are not looked down on as much. Drinking diet coke, instead of regular with your fast food is not a diet. I see quite a bit of the starving too, mostly with girls I know. I will be the first to admit that I have prejudice against fat people...I just can't respect them...Period...
As far as the obese trying in the gym...I guess I can respect that because they have an uphill battle ahead of them and 99.99% of them won't make it because they have so little will power. I work at a hospital and I see the fattest of the fat and some of them are so dependent on others that they can't do anything for themselves...To me that is worse than death... I would probably take my own life if I got that bad, but I know for a fact that I would never even come close. You don't get to be super obese overnight. It took years of poor decisions and poor willpower...Hard to respect that when you could have made the change at any time...

As a formerly obese person, I can certainly sympathize. However, I have no respect for anyone that thinks "equality" means having the government make laws regarding "obese" accessibility standards for private businesses. Certainly anyone that is obese is a person and has the same rights to life, liberty, and property as anyone else, but they have no right to special treatment. Further, I can't respect anyone with a "victim" mentality that doesn't accept the personal responsibility inherent in being obese (aside from actual physical defects beyond their control i.e. thyroid malfunction). I, personally, became obese because my parents didn't teach me proper diet and portioning habits as a child and adolescent. When I became old enough to make those decisions for myself, I had to research and learn to eat properly. I was no more "addicted" to poor dieting than anyone else. I just decided that being healthy was more important than the neurochemical high I got from gorging on crap.
