It doesn't matter to me if being fat is hazardous to your health. I answered your question, I was just explaining how I see prejudism against fat people.

My sister in law recently came to visit us from CA. I hadn't seen her in awhile and she is the largest person I have ever seen in person. She is an awesome person, she seems to eat the same as all of us, but she has to be well over 300 lbs. I try not to judge because I see what she goes through everyday being so obese. People stare at her, snort at her, grown adults snear at her, it is disgusting to see grown adults act in such a manner. She tries to lose weight and just when she was losing steadily she got into a head on collision and suffered many injuries. She was not wearing her seatbelt because she is too large to wear one. The police officer at the scene explained that she would have most likely suffered far more serious injuries had she been wearing it and had she not been so large. Interesting.

Anyway, she started a new diet three weeks ago and I know it will be a hard struggle for her, but I think she can do it.

seat belts save lives...being grossly overweight also seems to, a human airbag.

sorry to read about your sister in law, has she got a disability now?

She had surgery on her right arm, and wrist due to multiple fractures, she just got the cast off and is starting physical therapy.

She will most likely not collect state money for it or anything, she is proably going to get a large settlement from the car insurance company though. She was not at fault, she was at a stop when she was hit by oncoming car going 65 mph. She is really lucky she is alive.

Hanna, my wife is obese with all sorts of physical ailments and "disabilities". Sorry about your sister-in-law and I know what you by the snorts and stuff from adults. Imagine the pain when it comes from kids! I don't judge someone because of their size because their size is nothing that has to do with me. I have no way of knowing what someone that is obese may be dealing with that prevents them from losing weight. What I do have a problem with is people, like my wife, that just say to hell with exercise, to hell with proper diet, to hell with everyone because this is who I am and you have to accept it. Sure, I can accept it, but I don't have to accept that you get pissed off when people make a comment that is rude, judgemental, and hurtful about the very body image you tell us to "accept". I know that you will help your sister-in-law work through her injuries and help her to get right back on the BB lifestyle. And I pray she has more drive then my sig other who has just given up!

i have read every response on the thread including the article in caferacer's post and i have to agree with it. i know some people who are physically unable to do excercise to lose weight and i know those who sit and whine about how their life sucks and they cant do anything about it.

to me laziness is my pet peeve. i can understand someone playing video games and relaxing but there is a line to draw. i believe if your anywhere from 5 years of age to 65 years old there is no reason you should be fat barring diesease. i have ZERO respect for people who complain about how terrible they feel about themselves and how terrible they look but do NOTHING about it. Get off your fat ass and do something about it then, no ones telling you to eat like a cow and lay on your ass all day. These people are so weak minded it sickens me and i will never have respect for an obese person who is at mcdonalds eating 2 double big macs.

i feel kind of bad because there are some people who cant help there wight, those who eat liek the average person that are unable to excersize or have a diesease. my grandpa is one of them. untill he was 60 he was at a healthy weight untill he got health problems and couldnt move around much and started to gain wieght. he is around 260-270lbs now at 72 years of age, and i feel that it is really to late at 72 year old to really change the way youve been doing things for 50+ years. and in his specific situation i can sympathize because his body would not be able to take any form of excersize. his diet isnt particularily bad but he is unable to move around much anymore because of the condition of his lungs. i have nothing but respect for him, the way he worked to give his family a good life, and it is unfortunate that his life may be cut short do to health problem. he never asked for nothing from anybody, he doesnt want any special treatment and i believe people like that deserve nothing but respect.

I'm with Caferacer on this one.
The audience of the letter may not be people that may benefit from it but it helps people like myself not feeling "guilty" for having a predjudice against able-bodied people who lack the self control to look after themselves. I'm sick of all the "Oprah" style "as long as your beautiful on the inside" sh!t. Obese people are a burden on society ~ I work hard for my taxes & I hate to see them p!ssed against the wall by people needing surgery for this & surgery for that because they either couldn't be bothered or just don't care about taking a bit of pride in themselves & their health ~ why should I moddycoddle them?

And Dannyboy, that statement comparing prejudice to obese people & to black people was a little ludicrous ~ obese people aren't born obese & as Caferacer pointed out, being black isn't an impediment to someones health.

That was a great article!

My entire family is fat, except me. I'm not saying that I did anything to get this way, I'm skinny because my metabolism is fast. But I'm not fat because I don't eat the same **** as they do!

They used to tell me to eat everything off my plate, and I would tell them they can go to hell. If I'm full, I'm not going to force myself to eat more.

My aunt got a bypass surgery and she's lost more than 150lbs! Everyone is telling her she's so freakin amazing that she was able to lose soo much weight. Her diet is still crappy, and she's still lazy. The only reason her diet is not as bad as it was, is because she will vomit from over eating, or eating the wrong foods. I mean, she's a nice lady and everything, but it's a bunch of BS.

And my mom will sit there and eat a cake for dinner.

None of them do much exercise. Every time I come over they are in their reclining chairs watching TV.

I swear, even with my metabolism, if I ate like they did and didn't exercise, I would be freaking huge!

I have yet to meet one person who I feel is fat, and can not help it.

OMG, what pisses my off the most are those fat women driving around the grocery store in those electric carts. I've tied being nice to them. Is it just me, or are they all b!tches?!?

Sorry, lazy fat asses won't get any respect from me.

I dunno, but I would be if I were stuck in a cart unable to walk because of my own weak will.

But, luckily I'm not.

If they would just learn to focus their negative energy into positive energy, they could lose a lot of weight. I focus my energy when I'm about to go talk to a girl. I tell myself, this feeling I have is excitement! NOT fear!

The kid weighs like 150lbs, I don't think he is going to try to be picking up 300lbs feMALE bodybuilders. Less sHE sleeps on the bunk below him.

Hahaha.... I wouldn't date a girl that could crush me if we do it froggy style. Plus 300lb female bodybuilder would look like a guy mostlikely... Not really my thing.

My point was the "excitment" would be fear. Ok, there was no point in that, I just thought it was funny..

****, just walking by her would make my fear level rise.. Like what if she tripped, I'd be crushed... ahh parania.

Ok this will sound real stupid to you guys but I will say it anyway. I find myself envious of some fat people because they have size. I am a big fan of size when it comes to bodybuilding and I just hate that skinny boy male model look because it looks so whimpy but then I look at fat people and they don't look whimpy to me, while they are not ripped they look strong sort of.
