Default What do you think.....

The other day I was talking to this guy about the whole "War on Iraq" issue. I told him I thought the soilders are just doing what there Executive Officer (president) told them to do -kick ass-rebuild-get out-.....he said he thinks the soilders are selffish people because they leave behind families to go and fight some stupid war that doesnt even invovle the US. He said only "single men" should go into the army, he thinks the married men think to much about them selves......I think they are more of a man....someone has got to do it right? I wouldnt leave my family so I do what I can here in the US, but I dont think the soilders there deserve this kind of slander...what do you think?

Go punch him in the face.

No soldier wants to be in iraq. "Its hot, it sucks, dont go there" seems to be the general consensus. They choose to join the military, but they do not choose which wars they get to fight and where.

Youre right, no soldier deserves that slander.

I have two sons serving. One in Iraq right now. He almost got himself killed and he saw his buddy get killed and a guy lose his leg to an IED. For every IED my son disarms successfully at least one more person lives. Often more than one person lives. My son is a wonderful father and husband...and he's never been selfish even as a kid. He was by my side through some of the toughest years of my battle with fibromyalgia and by me after my first surgery.

My son's best friend from his youth also joined the military. He's a ranger in the Army. He has decided not to get married while he is in the military, so he's giving up the chance to have a spouse or a family.

When my son enlisted and chose his training we were not in the midst of a war. He figured he would do most of his time answering domestic calls. And in all actuality most of his work is right here on American soil and he's usually home with his family most of the time.

As for my son's wife and children. They come stay with us for a bit during his longer deployments and I am shortly going back out to stay with them since he's still overseas. His wife and children miss him...so do his brother, sister, grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins and his dad and I....but none of us....not a one feel that my sons are selfish.

How can we...when at any moment the red cross could knock on our door to tell us that he/they was/were killed in the line of duty? Bless him...it would mean that he was trying like hell to save some civilians life in that god forsaken hell hole of Iraq.

F*ck him...and tell him that this Air Force mom hopes he never has to live with the worry we live with. But at least we have the balls to support our men and women that serve.

Well said!

I can't believe that there are still people out there that don't support our troops! I don't care what you believe about the war...The soldiers deserve our utmost respect and support! They risk life and limb every day selflessly...That should still count for something!

People these days make me sick...

Thats exactlly how I felt! This guy is just an aqquantince of mine, and we have this damn debate everytime the issue is brought up....he's kinda one of those dumb asses who thinks the only reason we're over in Iraq is because of the oil. IMO we have established ourselves (USA) as the most powerful economic and military leader basically in the world. As such we are kinda the " big brother " to other small nations ie:Iraq. Meaning look around you do you enjoy being able to say whatever the **** you want to say....do you enjoy being able to bash the president (if you wish to) and not get killed for doing so.....do you enjoy the freedom to make every single solitary decision in your life (minus being illegal) and not be punished for it....these are just a few things I enjoy and respect the military for fighting for. These soilders fight for "FREEDOM" - people dont realize it might not always be "our" freedom, it might be a smaller nation like Iraq "the ****hole" that needs us to step in a kick the sh*t out of the government and give it back to where it belongs. I dont believe we are there for nothing - I believe we are there for what every human being deserves "FREEDOM!"

tell that d*** to think of it this way....for every soldier who enlists in the armed forces, thats one step farther away from needing a draft...someone who graduated a year ahead of me in high school came back and talked to my class about his going to the citadel as a pathway to the marine corps and when some1 asked him why he wanted to be a marine, one of the reasons he said was that by him going into the marines, thats one less person who would have to go in against thier will so, in essence...he went FOR that guy who called every1 in the armed forces selfish...pretty self-less if you ask me

There's a lot of anti-Bush sentiment down here as there is all over the place, but it's not to say we don't sympathise with the troops in Iraq.
Like my mum (mom to you lot) always says - "Where the **** would we be at if it wasn't for the yanks".
It's nice to know the world police are on our side, even if we don't agree with every move they make.

My husband is in the Airforce, he joined after 911 - we do not like nor agree with Bush, but he is supporting his country, which is far different than agreeing or following Bush - many men & women join for all kinds of reasons, unfortunately with Iraq, it is the nature of the game.

I do disagree with these young boys who join just the fight & shot guns, but they will learn or they will die. I think you can be a supporter of the military & not be a supporter Bush.

As far as leaving their families - beng a military wife is hard, really hard, scarey, anything can happen, even if he's not in Iraq, but I knew what I was getting into, so it is a two way street. It has made me stronger - my husband had an affair while away for 4 months last year (the affar was in last month when he was restationed) - all while I was at home pining for him, raising our new son, alone in Alaska - with no signs of anything. He wasn't in Iraq, but it has distroyed our family & counseling is all we have. Affairs are everywhere, but in the military when you have nothing but the same thing everyday, all alone, affairs are an everyday occurrance & where men & women are stationed - the locals are trained to trap & suduce them. I am not condoning the affair - buy no means, I have many days when I want to leave & I hate him, but my point is, military wives endure so much, maybe it is our fault, maybe it is what we should expect - I don't know, but I do know when you marry someone, you support them, through the good & bad - including if they are in the Military.

So, I shared some of my soul & my pain - no jokes, please...........

I dont think it is the fault of the military wives...meaning I dont think you want to be left alone for months - sometimes years at a time. I think military wives are like any wife - THEY SUPPORT THIER HUSBAND, and stand by his side - THROUGH THICK AND THIN. I went to the police academy in June'05 and was gone until October 23rd'05 basically 5-6 months. During this time my daughter was born (in July'05). I got to come home and see them both for three days then it was back to the academy........but regardless my wife supported me through it all. She knows I needed her to be there for me, and even though she just gave birth to our daughter - she never let me down...she always was there to listen about my gripes about the ****ty academy. So more power to you military wives who instead of going 5-6 months - go 1-2 years sometimes - you deserve the respect.....

LOL I love it! Did your mother actually say this! If so she is incredibly cool in my book!

I agree with CWCollins. I think Bush is a total moron, but I still support the troops 100%. The war might have been started under dubious claims, but we have to finish what we started (this time ) and the troops need every bit of backing we can give them.

Tonight's presidential address...immigration...wtf? Just another presidential ploy to change the focus once again. I support the troops and can do so without the agreeing with decisions of his cabinet.
