OH MAN....the WalMart's by me are sooo ghetto. But that's one of the things I like about them. You could go there in your pajamas, unshowered, and still be one of the best dressed people there. It's so trashy. I don't have any hillbillies by me, but maybe if I did, it would be a ghetto hillbilly haven. |

And they are "so religious" too (or so they will have you "believe). Right to the bank! It's ALL ABOUT THE MONEY. And who they can screw. Religion, politics and walmart - they go hand -in- hand |

I don't like walmart cause all the checkers are rude.
What I hate is when you buy like 5 of the same thing (the same exact thing) and then they scan each one individually. They could just hit the quantity key and then enter 5 and scan it once, but that is too much work. This is the absolute worst....you buy something and it won't scan, so they try again, then they try again, then they make sure the upc bar is completely flat, they try again, then it still wont scan, so they look at you and say, "this isn't scanning for some reason?"...like I'm supposed to get another one. What ever happened to punching in the numbers if it wouldn't scan? I can scan my groceries at the self-service line at the grocery store faster than these walmart employees or other retailers. rant over..unless someone posts something to rile me up again...you guys don;t want to get me started. ![]() |

I'm not sure if those of you who abhor Walmart realize this, but in a free market prices are set by competitive forces. Walmart isn't simply a retailer, it's a dynamo with over $300 billion in revenues globally.
Before you judge them though, keep this in mind.........Despite their presence geograhically, or the fact that they often end up in the media as an evil doer of sorts, their net margin is less than 4%. That means for every dollar of sales, after expenses they've only got $.04 left of net income. They're not making a killing like Microsoft or Google among other names. They've largely been responsible for keeping the middle to lower income consumer purchasing as forcefully as they have in light of the fact that real (inflation adjusted) wages have fallen during the past 5 years. Additionally, like it or not the US economy is Wide open. After NAFTA and recently CAFTA trade and the mobility of capital flows has grown exponentially. If you want to say that Walmart should be restricted in it's domestic operations, than I urge you to see if you own anything that's made in China. They've got their currency pegged to the dollar @ 8.019 renminbi per 1$, and it doesn't float. They intervene in the forex market by buying dollars and purchasing our governmetns debt. Thus keeping their currency cheap and this has the effect of taxing any of our exports, and subidizing their exports. In a floating currency market all of our demand for the chinese currency should cause an appreciation. But their central banks offset this by accumlating large amounts of foriegn exch reserves (almost $1 trillion US now) So you can't have it both ways, the US is becoming a service oriented economy that produces high technology goods. Low margin and other mundane products should be made in countries who have a comparative advantatage in terms of production cost, since in the long run this produces the greatest surplus benefit for all consumers. |

Walmart is currently the largest employer in the USA. I enjoy studying arguments on both sides as much can be learned. However, while I think we should all either work and educate ourselves throughout our lives, I never personally ever want to work at Walmart.
My financial management book states that for-profit corporations exist to garner profit for shareholders. That is the focus. All else is forced upon them by external powers. Peace. Last edited by Aspirin; 02-21-2006 at 08:45 PM. |

Damn.....now I feel kinda bad about drinking out of my $1.06 shaker cups and using my $1.50 cent hampers from walmart since now I know their sadistic ways. Maybe I should take back the movies I bought for $5.50 and get the same exact movie from somewhere else for $15.99. And I should only get shaker cups from GNC or anywhere else for $5.99 each instead....................
ppffffffftttttt Like thats gonna happen. But they are kind of ghetto,
