Default Canadian Election

I know there are a number of Canadians on here, so I thought that I would start thread to discuss the upcoming election.

Thoughts on the main areas?

The Gomery Inquiry/Liberal kickbacks
Health Care
Tax Cuts
Reopening the same sex issue
Daycare
others?

I support the Conservatives (I was a Reformer before that). Love their GST cut and $1200 for every kid proposals, like their approach to focussing on wait times rather than the dumb public vs private debate.

Hey man, i was born and still live in Quebec. You probably think that i would vote for le bloc quebecois, but i wound't.This talk about separation is old and stupid.Canada is a great country, we are going very well. Not only we don't have a defecit, but we are now a couple of billions in surplus each year.If quebec would seperate, i would move. Most people is wondering why almost half of Quebecers wants to seperate, i think it's because they are too stupid to learn english. They think that Quebec would get rich and better by being independant, but i believe it all comes back to the language issue. The only province that wants to separate this country just happens to be french? Not a coincidence.

Some provinces do better than others, so what? We are strong *together*.Would the U.S.A. still be the strongest country in the world if they had some state that would break up? I don't think so.Some states do better than other, but they are strong together.

I am also feed up with the liberals. They cheated, they lied and stole from us.They are corrupted. They took our votes for granted.

The alternative is definitly the conservatives. Some people say they are too different, but there wouldn't be a point of callings themself a conservative party if they were the same as the liberals. That irritates me.People saying that they are tired of their government, but i bet they will still vote for them. You want change, then vote for Stephen Harper.GST cuts, better health care system, spent more on our military (wich is just ridiculous) and improve the relationship with our friends , americans.

NDP would bankrupt our country, bloc is out to lunch, and the liberals have shown its time for them to step down.

it is time for a change....im personally voting PC this time. its too bad that my area totally supports liberal though....

$1200 for child care won't do a damn thing and I suspect most parents won't be using it as its intended purpose. Look at how the Baby Bonus is used.

$1200 is nothing more than a conservative approach to pandering for votes. Much like the Liberals are doing with the proposed hand-gun banning legistlation.

$1200 won't buy anyone day care when the average rate for day care is about $150-$250/week.

The investigation showed that our current prime minister wasen't involved in the sponsership scandal. However, his party (the liberals) was.Pretty much everyone that works for the government will vote for the liberals because they are afraid of losing their jobs.At least that's how it is in Quebec.

Everyone and their trip on the Gomery report. Who gives a ****? The Liberals scratched the backs of a few friends. The only difference from any other gov`t is that they got caught! Is it any worse than say the PQ who drove the province in debt? Wasted money is wasted money. That`s what the gov`t does. I know if I had to hire someone, I`d certainly turn to those who support me! I maight even throw in a little `tip` as well. Here, it`s either Liberal or Bloc. Anything else is throwing you vote away and I`ll be damn if I`m gonna vote for a gov`t that wants to continue removing the basic rights of us anglophones. Liberals it will be for me!!!

$1200 is better than taking more of my tax dollars to invest in child care, most of which goes to the administration of the system and never makes it down to my child.

There is no question that you are going to support firms that supported your election. No Question. The difference is that these guys were getting kickbacks and essentially stealing our money by overcharging the government and giving brown envelopes of cash back to the Liberal party. That is totally different.

I agree with you. However, Charby is right about not really having a choice. In Quebec, it's either liberals or BQ.It's useless to vote for anything else. The BQ is all about seperation, so it doesen't leave a lot of options. If i have to choose between seperation or a gov that steal from us, i think i would rather vote for the later one.

So let me understand. You'd rather be given $1200 to cover 12% of your child's childcare instead of being taxed an additional (say $200) to cover 100% of your child's childcare?

I hate seeing my taxes go up as I pay enough (52% last year) and am getting very sick of paying for those of lesser fortunes than myself but I would have no problem with an addition $200/yr hit to save $9000 or more.

Nooo problem whatsoever.

Can I say F U, to everyone that thinks the baby bonus is useless...

My girlfriend is currently depending on it... it's all the money she has to put food and clothes on her kids. Don't assume for a second that just because some people, or even alot of people are useless drug addicts and alchoholics, that everyone is.

Sweetthing doesn't drink, and she doesn't smoke drugs or cigerettes... She barely gets buy in public housing, she lives a simple life. No car, rides the bus... food is the basics.. no prime rib roasts and shrimp here.

She made the mistake of getting involved with the wrong man a long time ago, she had 2 kids.. she was then abused and left the basterd... instantly becoming a single mom... with 2 kids to raise. No one to baby sit, so she had no choice to, and if you ask me it's the right choice to stay home and raise your kids.... later she applied for a student loan and got college educated... but the job market sucks ass here unfortunately.. when she met me she was able to get work at night, when I could look after the kids, but the pay is low.. and the work has been sporadic.

We tried a few baby sitters... but it actually cost more for the baby sitter then she was making.. although there is some money reinbursed..... it still wasn't cost effective, when you consider I had to drive them accross town 4 times a day.

The point is she is a very hard working and sober responsible mother, that depends on that money to put food in thier bellies and clothes on thier back.. for real.. no joke.. no friggin lies. You can't blame her, that some people abuse the system, fraud the goverment for money, and then spend the execess on drugs. That's not her. So again F U to anyone that would take that away from her.

She is looking for a fulltime day job, It's only a matter of time now... and we'll be moving in together, and splitting the bills. (I split the bills with my brother at another appartment at the moment, cause I couldn't afford to officially move in with her, as he rent would sky rocket to 800 a month for a shiet hole). she pays her bills I pay mine for the time being.

I just can't explain how frustrating that there is people that actually believe that sort of shiet... how do you think she must feel? What do you think people would do in her situation if it was taken away? Do you want her start groveling at the food shelter? You want to take away peoples dignity? Perhaps you want them to just hang themselves?

Damn it... stuff like this pisses me off.

If you only knew how much she wants to be out of public housing and on her own... Life ain't always what you hoped for though.
