Default Building up to a meet.

I am going to be having a friendly lifting competition with one of my friends in May. We are doing the 3 meet lifts, plus clean and jerk. So my question is, for any who has experience, what is the best way to progress to be ready for a meet.

Common sense tells me to work up to very low reps, or close to singles a week or two before the meet.

Lets say the meet is on May 1st. The week before that should I be doing 2-3 rep ranges, trying to dial in my max. I am plan on trying to get a set schedule started around the first week of march, that will lead right into the competition, that will hopefully have me right around 2-3 reps and pulling some singles. I think this would be the most effective way, but I would love to hear any advice or comments.

I go a little bit different. I am working on heavy lifts, but focusing on the ancillary muscles to make sure they can keep up. If it's one rep max's, then you are fine, but if it's anything for reps you might need to shift your plan around. You might stay in the 2-3 range, but for 5-7 sets.

I'm lifting my ass off with heavy weight training almost everyday, then don't touch a thing 3 days out. Let the body heal and grow.. then come lifting day, pound out everything I have. "grip the bar like I'm going to break it, and put every once of power into it". You should be able to feel the energy coming off you when you step up.

I have no doubt you will do well. If not, I'm going to kick your ass

ya, it is 1 rep max kind of thing. We arent doing anyting for reps, whatever you can lift for 1 rep, we get 3 tries at each lift. The only one I am worried about is clean and jerk, that is going to be hard to judge as far as what I will be at for a 1 rep max. The only setback will be my jerk, because that is about 25 lbs less than my clean right now.

Thanks for the advice. I think the contest will be on a monday. So I will probably take thursday-sunday off, get lots of good food on sunday and money morning, and just go at it.

those kettleballs exercises will help with the clean and jerk. Lot's of shoulders and explosiveness. I hate clean and jerk great exercise for the core though.
