Haha that's a great quote about bodybuilders whether you like them or not, 'what's the point of strutting round england with a tan when it's minus two? shaved all over, full of drugs and forever dropping dead'
don't post that on BB4U... oh wait... Last edited by jproudj; 01-22-2007 at 04:34 PM. |

I can honestly see this from both sides. I can see why some powerlifters don't wanna be associated with bodybuilding. SOME bodybuilders do look ridiculous strutting around with their chests puffed out and their stomachs sucked in. There's a guy in Birmingham, England that is a big guy, he's been in a few bodybuilding mags. His skin looks like he's been varnished, he wears a tracksuit all the time with a weightlifting belt over the top to show off his shoulder to waist ratio!
From a bodybuilders point of view, they're abs are so precious to them they can't imagine having a waist of over 35 inches never mind the 50-60 inch waists of some of the power guys! They see power guys as fat guys who'd have a heart attack if they ran up some stairs because they don't fit the usual idea of a healthy person with low bodyfat. Taking both of these arguments into account i would rather do both. I consider my training that of a power bodybuilder. I look up to guys like Reg Park, John Grimek and especially Sven Karlsen. They managed superb physical development while achieving huge strength levels. Sven Karlsen was a great squatter as can be seen when he won the WSM in 2001 while maintaining a relatively low bodyfat %. At the end of the day i think the world is better place for having bodybuilding AND powerlifting in it. And there's more than enough room for both. It all comes down to personal preference, there is no wrong or right. They're both different pursuits and i have huge respect for both.
