hello, i'm a newbie...
i just started lifting 4 months ago... i am 51 yr old male who hasn't done any physical activity since high school...at the age of 48, my body really started to break down...i won't go into all the details but an orthopaedic (sp) surgeon sent me to the gym to work on abs and lower back bc of spondylitis and a cardiologist send me to do cardios for PVC's...right off i lost 35 lbs. but i played with the gym stuff for about 2 yr...then one day last sept. i realized that my health was a serious issue and i had better give it priority in my life... thus...i started going to the gym 5 days a week the first thing in the morning...in mid-oct., it occurred to me that as long as i was there, i ought to try the "other stuff"... i started on the wt. machines and was greatly surprised at the results after about 6 weeks...that got me interested in lifting...i read mostly online things until i felt that i had a somewhat working knowledge of lifting...since then, i mostly lift free wts 5 days a week with abs at home on sat... i honestly didn't know that the body of a 51 yr old man could look like this...i feel better than i did at 35 and have tons of energy... anyway, i still have lots to learn and this the reason that i registered here...pls be patient with me...i have lots of questions.... |

Hi guys,
My name's Kenji, and aside from a little nautilus stuff a couple years back I've never lifted. And I've never touched freeweights in my life. I just wrote my story on the Biography thread, but I'll put a little bit here too, since it doesn't look like anyone reads that. I'm Female-to-Male transgendered, which means I was born female, but I identify as male, and am taking steps to change my outward gender appearance. I've not had any surgeries, but I have been on testosterone injections for 8 months. This does certain things to the body- lowered voice, facial hair, body hair, general all-over bulkiness. So at this moment, I appear and live my every-day life as a male. I am on the chubby side, at 5'7" and 250 lbs. Before the hormones I weighed 220, and since then I still wear the same size clothes, granted, they do fit a bit more snugly, but hardly enough to notice. I am not in horrible physical health, though. I can walk 4 miles or so with no real problem, but running kind of hurts the shins. I'm on the LA weightloss plan so that I can get the excess fat off of my body. I'm looking for a way to build muscle and get that "cut" look without compromising my weightloss plan too much. I just want to look more male. Since I'm flat-chested, have sideburns, and my voice is deep, hardly anyone gives me a second look, but I still have that tell-tale hippiness and softness of form that would give me away if you didn't see my face. Anyways, that's my story, and I hope to be on my way to manliness soon, lol! Peace, Kenji |

Hi other fellow newbies! I'm new as well and FTMboi, that took loads of courage! Good luck in your body work.
I've been working out now steadily since Jan of '04 and have went from a size 7/8 to a double zero. I'm really just looking for some tips on strength training and building a little more muscle mass. Also anything great for lower abs. I love the articles on this site so far and have yet to see anything that sounds unusual from what I see being done at the gym everyday. Anyways, I look forward to talking to you all about weight training, cardio exercise etc. and reading some of the advice posts. |

Hi to everyone here! I've been posting on other boards for a couple of years now and I just found this site. It looks great here and I hope I can contribute to the group. I competed in natural contests for about 10 years and continue
to train for competition, I just don't diet like a competitor right now. |
