Hey V,

Mil Mascaras, that's one I haven't heard in years. I was in Mexico City recently and saw a report with "El Hijo del Santo". Now, El Santo, he was the coolest. I grew up watching their movies on tv.

Take care.

Well, this looks like a good place to start.

Name: Thomas
Age: Nearly a quarter of a century old (24 to be exact...)
Height: 5' 9"
Weight: 177
BF: No friggin idea, but WAAAY too high if I took a guess.

Back in high school, I was in pretty good shape. I was playing football, baseball and taking tae kwon do until I broke my right leg my sophomore year. I fell into a bit of a funk then, smoking, drinking, drugs, etc. By my sophomore year in college, i weighed 230 lbs (pure fat) and a steady alcoholic. After a lot of personal problems (my fiance cheating on me, problems at work, my father's health problems) I needed to find something to use as an escape, other than alcohol or the daily joint. So, I joined 24 hr fitness and never looked back. Within one year, I had went from 230 lbs to 160 lbs, quit doing drugs and severly cut back on the drinking. (My only vice is smoking cigarettes; if ANYONE knows a good way to quit, please let me know! Tried the patch, tried the gum, tried HYPNOSIS...)

As stated before, the workouts were just an aversion to the daily grind. (Sure beats the hell outta $300/hr psychotherapy sessions... ) I never really knew much about working out, dieting or supplementation, and thusly hit a plateau about 6-8 months ago. So, I hit the net and found this site. I must say, I've been glancing around for a few days and the info here is GREAT! I've also been reading Men's Health and Fitness lately, and I feel as if I finally have the knowledge to get out of the funk and get to where I wanna be.

So, don't be suprised if i'm on here a lot, just soaking in info and asking stupid questions. Working out has become a major cornerstone in my life, and the feeling is great!

(p.s. The best part of the working out for me? Seeing my ex-fiance...not only did I lose the weight, but it seemed as if she gained all that I lost! )

Well I'm never any good at these things, so I'll try my best. I joined the military when I was 17, with my mom signing the agreement papers and begging me not to go. I got married to my 35 y/o wife at age 18, I've got a 15 y/o daughter, well step daughter, and tons of pets. 3 Bengal cats and two basset hounds actually, and we all live unrestfully in a 1000 sq. feet of military housing. I came to Texas from Idaho, where I enjoyed having room to move about and things being green. Once I joined I went to tech school and became a SERE instructor, due to an overage in the career field at the same me and a few others got "temp" retrained into other critically manned jobs. I got Fuel System mechanic. This last November there was a fuel spill accident and I was stuck on the flight line soaking in JP8(Jet fuel) for over 8 hours, my supervisor refusing to let me leave and change, etc. I got chemically burned over about 2/3 of my body and have since developed a sensativity to the fuel and am beign retrained again. (Since the fuel spill I can't go back to my old job, AF works off a thing called a PULHES score, and SERE requires it be at least 111121....and mine changed from a 111111....to a 211111. Which the numbers just wont work, any military will understand. Right now I'm in the Flight office, which is like a middle management area. I am hoping my next job is Aerospace Physiologist, but only time will tell. I've been waiting retrain for about 10 mos. now and am EXTREMELY bored to death. I got started in fitness at about 14ish, not 100%. I never really understood what I was doing at first except I learn very quickly and am not afraid to ask questions and probe things to get what I want. When I turned 17 I applied for physical trainer courses, had to wait til I was 18...lovely eh?
My wife used to bodybuild very heavily in her early years, but after a butterfly accident(tore her rotator cuff) she has been very leary about getting into certain exercises and weights again. Her max bench was 300lbs. Let's just say she was in really great shape. =)

I enjoy the time i get to spend at the gym, I really love the environment, ecept for certain times of the day, when there are so many people you have to wait to look at the dumb bells, let alone use them. My biggest pet peeve is someone blowing me off when I'm giving advice on how to NOT hurt themselves. I don't care if someone is trying to get big, look impressive or whatever, just do it so you wont break a wrist, an elbow, your back, knees, etc.

I am also a big advocate for L-Glutamine, if for only its healing factors and human regenerative atributes.
Its not often one can find a place where there are so many eagaer minds and so many eager teachers of knowledge, and this place is an awesome one to find! I've learned tons since I've been here, and I know as each time I read/post I'll learn more.

I started to read Twilights post and thought, "OMG, my middle son just joined BB4U!"
He joined the AF at 17, we signed for him with pride and no regrets. He's EOD. His AF wife and baby girl are back in Idaho waiting for him to return from Guam.
Nice to meet you.

Sweet!

You're the first person in a LONG time that didn't look at me and go...
"Its Hoo-ah..." I'm glad the army has their own saying ,but Air Force special ops HAS to say it in training instead of yes. So for me it will always be hoo-ya.....specifically hooya never quit.

Ok here goes

Name: Rob
Age: 22 1/2
Height: 6'5"
Weight: 220
BF: 19%

Countless times over the course of my short life I've started lifting. Well this time I'm sticking with it. I've been lifting steadily(except for 2 weeks off around christmas) since September 2004. I'm doing a modified version of the DoggCrapp routine and I'm liking my results.

My whole life I was stick skinny and couldn't put on weight to save my life. Then, in my Junior year of college, I was put on some medication for my head(which isn't quite wired straight) that caused my metablolism to invert itself. I gained roughly 20lbs in 3 months, all fat. I stopped taking the medication, but my metabolism was still all out of wack. Only recently did it start reverting to its original state. It's still very hard for me to put on muscle weight, but I do what I can. My height makes it a pain in the rear end 'cause it takes me twice as long to see gains with my long muscles. I also don't have much in the way of genetics on my side.

I'm lifting for both strength and appearance. At my height, I figure my frame can support a lot of size. I also have a tendency to attract fights, which is just fine by me cuz growing up skinny I spent years learning how to box, but it would be nice if my sheer ABOMINABLE size was deterrent enough. I've learned a lot from this board and have talked to some really cool people. Lookin foward to hangin around as long as you'll have me

Sidenote: don't take that whole blurb about me attracting fights as reason to think i'm one of these tough-guy a-holes. i attract fights because i stand out(due to my height and the fact that i'm very tattooed) and people with big mouths seem to like directing their attention to me. and i don't back down unless i'm worried i'll end up dead. i'm a teddybear otherwise.

Well, I've got an interesting backstory, IMHO... My name used to be Kori. I am FTM transgendered; that means I am biologically female. I've been on testosterone injections for 8 months now, but still have not had any surgeries. I'm also tired of being so heavy. I went through a period of severe clinical depression from the time I was about 17 till I was 21, which was a result of me being transgendered. After a period of psychological counseling, I started to turn myself around. Now that I've started my transition, I am a much more balanced and happy person, but the aftermath of my depression left me with a lot of excess weight. I was one of those people who eat for comfort.

Anyways, I'm now on the LA weightloss program, and eating much much healthier than I ever have. I'm losing weight steadily at around 3 lbs. per week. I'm looking for a way to increase my muscle mass and look more male without compromising my weight loss too much.

I've been hanging around BB4U for about a week, and finally decided to join the boards, to see what kind of advice I could get for someone in my unique position. I look forward to chatting with you guys.

Kenji

Occupation: First year college student at UC riverside.
Current Weight: 183 lbs i was around 240 at the beginging of the summer.
Height: 6'0
Race: Asian
BF: last time i checked it was 13.3 but that was 2 month ago. I'v been training pretty hard.

So here goes, I stumbled upon this site because i was searching for information on suppliments. Its one of the great discoveries that i had found. I just started doing the max ot work out today. I guess my goals are to get a solid six pack and just keep the same weight. Its pretty funny everytime i go back home from college my friends can hardly recongnize me. its great.

well a lil about myself. I was born 3/13/86 Beijing China. Moved to the united states when I was around 11. I had always been pretty chubby and the discovery of American fast food didn't help. I was around 180 in 8th grade. I pretty much kept the weight through out my first two years of highschool until i met my ex. I just started letting go and gained alot of weight. I started working out again during the summer of 2004, doing stupid things like going to the gym twice a day. But something must have worked. . I look forward to learn alot from you guys. thx in advance.

Hello everyone. Just a quick brief about me and where I'm at in life's journey.

Name: Allan
Occupation: Bail Enforcement Agent
Age: 36
Height: 6'5"
weight: 258 ibs.

I was a this same height my freshman year of H.S. and ran cross-country and played a little basketball for money on the side. Never lifted weights but due to running and b-ball was pretty strong and had great cardio stamina.
Got in with the wrong crowd after school and stopped running and playing ball. Started drinking and smoking. I had my last drink on 4/07/2002.
July of 2002 I was diagnosed with brain cancer ( named Oligodendroglioma ). I've had 36 radiation treatments and 8 months agonizing adjuvent chemotherapy. They told me I had 12 months to live so I'd better live it up while I could. That was almost 3 years ago. Still in remission and life couldn't be better. I feel better now than I ever have. They had to put me on cortico steroids to help reduce the swelling of my brain. I ate what ever wasn't bolted down and blew up to 295 lbs. I've gotten it down to the 258 I'm at now.
I lost what muscle tone I had due to the radiation and want it back and then some.
I found this site about 2 weeks ago. I've been working out 5 times a week and have been taking some supps. I've been getting some visible results. I've been getting great advise from some of the people here.
Hope to get to talk to even more people as the time passes. Please feel free to contact me .

Hi! I will try not to make this too lengthy, but I make no promises!
My name is Sarah, I am 29yrs. old and I am a native Floridian. I am 5'8" and my current weight is 165, but that is because I had a baby in Feb. I have four children ages 9,8,7, and 2. I am a Domestic engineer(the hardest job on earth). My goal in life is to raise happy healthy children who contribute to our society, preferably by becoming President.

Let me start at the beginning. It was a cold Janurary morning and my mother had been laboring for 6 hrs... Just kidding. I will skip a few years. I remember being athletic at a very young age. I began with gymnastics, then softball(which I played until I graduated H.S.), soccer, basketball for 6 yrs.. I never really lifted, but was always in great shape. I got married right out of H.S. and was pregnant within 3 months. I had 3 babies in 3 years, but when my 3rd son was 6 months old I had my figure back and then some. I had managed to look better than I did in H.S. Well, then my husband left me (moved in with his G.F.). Got divorced and then met the man of my dreams. Got re-married, and got pregnant. Had baby 4, finally a girl!! Got back in shape, but decided to carry another couples baby because she had been preg. 12 time but could not carry past the 3rd month. What an awesome experience!!! To be able to give them such a great gift was the most rewarding feeling. That was the baby I just gave birth to in Feb. Which brings the total number of times I have put my body through hell to 5. Even now I have a flat belly and not many stretch marks. I just need to get my ass in to gear...literally.

Now my goal with my body is to be rock solid. I know I will lose all the weight soon, but I want some jaws to drop. I will do it, you just watch! Okay, you can wake up now!

And by the way I want to say thank you to all of you who gave my such a warm welcome. You all inspire me daily.

My names Dave and I'm 52 so my story has the potential to be a book but I'll chop a lot off.

5'10" and currently 250 (hey, I lost 20!) I've been married for 25 years (OH God has it been that long!) and I have no children thanks to lifes curve balls.
I've been the Yo-Yo diet poster child for the past 30 years, regularly ranging from 180 to 300 so many times I've lost count. Use to smoke but quit around age 40.

I've been a swimmer since age 4 when they use to have to drag me kicking and screaming out of the lake. By 8 I was doing 1 mile by 16, 5 miles and into SCUBA. (paid off in VN where I had to swim better than 6 miles and was in the water overnight. After being picked up and spending 6 months in the hospital with seizures I was told medical discharge or back to Nam. You never saw someone pack as fast as me - another story...). I digress, anyway, all that swimming made for some big legs and sholders which put me into football and shotput in school. That was my first experience with lifting.

After getting my degree and working as a cop for 6 months (another story) I started working in the iron mines (gad, all kinds of stories) again another useful place for someone with bulk. After 5 years I got laid off and lived in an area with 35%+ unemployment so I moved out to Washington state.

Out here I got into cabinetmaking and finally learned a trade. Then one day the VA came to me and said "you can't do that work any more because I needed to change meds and the equipment was too dangerous", so they sent me to computer programming school. (PS, the new meds Phenobarbitol didn't work and just made me a zombie.)

Out here after several more jobs I finally got my current job which I've had for 18 years now. Trouble is I'm at this damn computer all day long. Add to that a 2 hr. drive in and a 2+hr drive home and I can forget about getting to a gym. I've got 32 months (max) and I retire. Then I'm moving back to my Farm in Wisconsin where I can do custom furnature and architrive as a sideline and workout whenever I feel like it.

Oh one thing, all that physical work - never one injury. So here I am at work on the computer troubleshooting a program problem one day (before headphones were the norm). TYPING AND CRADELING THE PHONE IN THE CRUX OF THE NECK is a BIG NO NO! The typing tightens the neck muscles and caused enough force on my spine that I ruptured the C5/6. (So much for the nice safe office job). Steroids used under the right circumstances (this being one of them) can be the difference between sanity and going mad from the pain.

So with no gym I'm doing this SOLO at home which means I have no one to talk to about nutrition, equipment, technique, clothing, you name it. - this was a bite until I found this site. I'm finding a lot of really good information thanks to all of your posts so please keep it up and don't hesitate to let me know if I'm thinking or doing something wrong.

So there, now you know some things about me.

Welcome to BB4U.

Interesting story. Best wishes on the recovery. I
