Name: Ben (Aka Deltmaster, for those of you around the other sites)
age:27
Location: U.K
Height:6'3"
weight:225-235lbs
Occupation: Chef/Catering manager.
where to start?, I was raised in London by a Father who was nothing short of victorian and liked to show his kids who was the boss, and a mother too scared to do anything about it. We moved into suburbia and life got a little better. When I was aboout 13 I experimented with alcohol and the next 8 years of my life are a blur. I managed to come away from school with a good education, more from luck than anything else. By the time I was 18 i had a serious alcohol problem and was off the rails. i spent the next 3 yrs unsucsessfully trying to battle my demons. Then I met my now wife, she saw me for the person that I am and gave me the help and confidence to be the person that I wanted to become. I have been married now for 2 yrs with a 4 yr old boy and a baby on the way. I have not had a drink in 4 1/2 yrs, except a social christmas drink (1)!!. I have been lifting for about 3 yrs after deciding to get fit and lift weights at the gym, and sort of fell into bodybuilding, It has changed my life. as a kid i was always the tall skinny one, with no strength and no build. Before I started to lift weights I was a little over 100lbs.... emaciated!!.
I now weigh 230 lbs, I am in the shape of my life, physically and emotionally. I no longer have any contact with my abusive father and live like the child i should have been 15 yrs ago. I spoil my kid and love my wife, and would give my life to ensure their happiness and well being.
My goal is to get to a shredded 250lb and then see where I want to go.

Default My bio

Hola All!
I came across this site yesterday by accident, and I must say that it is an awesome community.

I'm 27 (28 next month) and have been training for more than half of my life (played football), and am currently a personal trainer and a performance nutrition specialist in San Antonio-I've been doing it in my free time for over 7 years. I have a few different certifications, but originally, I just wanted it for the knowledge, and I just kept going.
With that being said, let me say two things:
1. I don't feel like a certification means anything if the person doesn't know their stuff. I strive to learn as much as I can, and I put the effort forth to get the certification for ME, not to prove that I know anything.
2. I'm not the stereotypical trainer that just walks around with the clipboard leading clients through cookie cutter workouts-I hate those guys and gals! I take great pride in my client's results, and if they fail, I really feel that I have failed.
Fitness and Nutrition are two things that I'm VERY passionate about, and I'm always reading different health and medical journals, and looking for ways to gain knowledge in those areas. I even write freelance articles on numerous different topics about nutrition and fitness.

About me:
I'm actually active duty Air Force and have been in for just over 9 years.
-that is why I only personal train in my free time. I would say part time, but sometimes I spend more time training clients in a week than I do at work for the government.
I am going to the reserves in October, so I can open my own personal training studio up either here in San Antonio, or at home in Knoxville, TN (GO VOLS!)
I'm 5'10 1/2". At different times, I weigh anywhere between 200 and 225. Right now, I'm mid 6's in body fat, but I go as high as 9% in extreme cases (I cracked bones in my back a few months ago, and it set me back a little bit). Also, with silly deployments to ****ty areas in the world, it can get tough to follow my regimen on MRE's and lifting sandbags-but believe me, I love that part of the military.
Recently I've been able to add muscle with minimal fat gain.
My next goal-I want to compete in the Lackland Air Force Base Bodybuilding Classic in November, and I'm hoping to be around 4% for that. That's pushing it, but I've been as low as 4.9% before. It's going to take a ton of work, and if anyone is interested, I'll keep you posted on how it's going.
If anyone has a question about anything lifting, nutrition, joining the military, becoming a personal trainer, college courses, or whatever, feel free to drop me a line. If I don't know, I'll do the research, and we'll both learn the answer. I'll be more than glad to answer most anything.
PM me to ensure I get it, just in case I don't see it in the forum (the PM sends me an email, and I'll definitely get that).
In just one day here, I've been able to learn quite a bit from this forum alone. I know that no two people are alike, and I'm always fascinated to read about what works for different people. Damn, I ramble on and on.

Take care-good lifting and better eating! b

Default Biography

My name is Julian and I live in Dallas, TX. You all can just call me V.

Age: 33
Height: 5'7
Weight: 155
BF%: too friggin much
Marital Status: GF
Ethnicity: latin and Asian

Interests: I play heavy metal lead guitar (Ozzy, Van Halen, Slayer, Metallica, Maiden, Priest), and I play only the V shaped ones, hence my board name. Im a devoted WWE fan and I also enjoy golf, chess, sushi, the theater, reading fantasy fiction, martial arts, shopping for nice suits and even the occasional girly movie even though my GF likes martial art and action movies even more than I do, lol. I collect blade weapons (swords, knives, axes, and polearms) and those are my 2 main swords in my avatar. They are real battle ready, hand forged carbon folded steel samurai swords that I had made overseas, not the 440 stainless crap. I have 2 identical sets of daisho (katana and wakisashi). I practice a dual sword style.

I was extremely overweight as a kid and I was the proverbial nerd, complete with greasy side parted hair, pants up to the chest, and even the ol' pocket protector. My family grew up in Mexico with the world famous wrestler Mil Mascaras (no, Im sure he does not remember us) and my father had a big interest in bodybuilding, wrestling and boxing. I guess he passed all that on to me.

I started training in kung fu for health reasons at the start of my 20s when I met a master of chinese descent here in Dallas (no I am not a badass). He me taught his family's style but I never attained black belt because he moved out of state. My next master taught Tibetan kung fu and he introduced me to a diet very similar to this new south beach thing years before the public at large even heard of such a thing.

I have never been able to make decent gains no matter what diet and or supplement I tried, and I think Ive tried it all. I have worked out on and off for years and years and I can never get past the plateau I am at now, hence the giving up. Sorry excuse, I know. But in any case I wanted to try out for WWE's tryout camp this year (I did not make it) and I wanted to once again try and get a decently massed and ripped physique. I do not read or buy any magazines for reasons better not said, but along the course of my wwe quest I bought, against my better judgement, a magazine with Brock Lesnar on the cover just to read what he had to say. Try as I might, I just could not ignore the advertisements for all those supplements they have on every other page. Supplemet companies used to promise the world, now they seem to promise a few of the neighboring galaxies as well. Is it just me, or have the magazines gotten 2x as thick with the same old rehashed garbage articles only with more advertising? I dont remember such heavy advertising even 10 years ago.

At any rate, the advertisements that stood out the most were Nitrix and Musco MXT because I seemed to have seen Musco around long long ago. A friend that is almost as hard gaining as I am heavily suggested I try Muscle Milk and I do love it. So far it is the only supplement that has ever worked for me and Ive tried everything - I mean everything - with no results. Seems as though supplements just dont work for me, I guess. MM is showing me a bit of nice results, but not like I want. So I figured maybe I would learn about Nitrix and Musco by researching on the net. Thats how I found you guys and am I happy I did. I have learned more from my one month of lurking here than I ever did from all those years put together. I hope to one day be able to offer you guys something worthwhile. Thanks for your time, I am honored to be here. Maybe I can get my GF to join.

Let's see I started working out again regularly about the middle of december 2003. I used to be in good shape, but I became a fat ass, mostly because of my job. I spend anywhere from 8-14 hours a day sitting here in front of a computer, and when your working on deadlines it's hard to eat 5 or 6 small balanced meals. It becomes one large fast food meal a day. So i've been hitting the gym at least 3x a week, and I'm starting to see some results, so i am super motivated right now. Only problem is I drink alot, so I'm having trouble losing the gut, but i'm working on it. Havn't started taking any supplements yet, but i'm doing some research, and really considering getting on some. That's it!

A while back, people used to always call me skinny, so I started doing pushups and some curls everyday. I've always watched Arnold Schwarzenegger movies and I've always been impressed with his physique. I started reading books, magazines, articles, and everything I could about bodybuilding. I then read about a documentary called, Pumping Iron. After I saw that, I was immediately inspired by the physiques of Franco Columbu and Arnold Schwarzenegger. I am short, so if I can't get the height, I at least want the size. So I've been working about for a good 2 years probably, and I've made some great gains. Planning on competing eventually.

Hi, first post...

Name: Dwayne
Height: 6'
Weight: 175
Age 29
Location: Memphis, TN.

Background:
I used to do submission-fighting, judo, jiu-jitsu, and Thai boxing. When I graduated from high school I was only 135 pounds and around 5'8, then I grew like mad for a year. I fought at around 160 pounds/6' for 5 years. But, that was years ago (when i was in shape)...Now I work in computer networking and rarely get off my rear. I've been "in shape" before but never been "large" my whole life. Now, I'm not much of either.

Currently:
Got myself a weider Olympic barbell w/300 pounds worth of weights, a gold's gym xr-18, and some misc weights and dumbbells I've had forever. I got tired of still feeling like I used to (in my head but not physically) when I think I can move this/lift that and ended up hurting myself. After a few times of hurting my neck and/or back and being laid up, I couldn't take it anymore. It's hard still having the mind of a fighter and the body of a computer geek

I started out about 2 months ago with just the Olympic bar doing shoulder/neck/back exercises to get those areas in decent enough shape to start getting serious. I've only just started lifting on a schedule and working out details on how much weight for each exercise.

I came across this site looking for forums such as these to help keep me focused while getting some good advice. Everyone seems really cool and helpful, so I think I'll stick around

Hi

Name: Paul
Age:32
Weight 80kilos / 176Pds
Location Auckland, New Zealand
Married

I just came across this site when i was looking for some information on supplements and found it really helpful. In fact I wished I discovered it before I purchased some products but nevermind.

I've always had a problem putting on weight up until the last year or so until I decided to start working out and add a few supplements.
At the moment I'm taking ons whey, Ast mutivitimin and have expermented with Nitrix ( hey I could see my viens but I didn't get much of a pump) After reading a few posts on V12 I thought I might give that ago next.
Anyway somethings must be working now cause two years ago I only weighted 63kilos.

My goal would be to put on some more size and hopefully keep it off the belly.

Thanks for reading and all the future tips

Default Greetin's and such...

Hello, all

My name is Myko, I'm 21, I've been lifting since I was around 17... When I was 19, I was 5'11", 180, around 7% body fat, I had a fairly decent physique... I then discovered the wonders of smoking, and alcohol, and now I'm at 175, with quite a bit of body fat, I was here reading about supplements, and also attempting to find reviews on the "Body For Life" program... I want to get back in shape, be physically, and mentally strong again... I guess this is a stepping stone...

So, that's my blurb.

Hi... i thought i'd put my first post here ;-P

I'm not a bodybuilder (although i secretly wish i was LOL). I compete in fitness. I also train in martial arts. This is my first year as a fitness competitor and i'm 9 days out from my second show, so needless to say I'm not really focused on work right now (which is what i should be doing....) *w*

I'm female (duh), 26 years old, Canadian, 5'6", 128 lbs... i've been weight training on & off for a few years but spent lots of time doing triathlons, marathons. Now i HATE cardio. All this pre-contest cardio is making me insane... i just want to hit the weights hardcore. Can't wait to really add some mass during my off-season.

Anyway, this looks like a great chat forum. I look forward to posting (and reading posts) here

Wow, just stumbled upon this topic, so i figured i'd make a post.
Name: Burge
Age: 17
- Incoming freshman to Northern Illinois
Been weightlifting for about a year and a half. But in reality, about four months

Well, i went into high school chubby, and my parents made me join cross-country even though i have absolutly no talent in running, my dad was amazing at it, so i guess he was lookin to live through me or somthing like that. I lost a lot of weight and became quite a bit leaner. I started working out doing runner workouts w/ weights, ya kno like 12 reps so you gain no muscle... i kno, its completly backwards. Well, this last year (my senior year in hs) i quite cross country because i hated it, i never became any good at it, my body type is just not meant for skinny i guess. And i kept doing those same weight workouts though, i had no idea that wasnt helping me at all.. whatever though. I was becomeing a little stronger though, but not much
Well, around last christmas i was getting a punching bag, and looked online for workouts. I ended up stumbling on this site, and immeadiatly began pouring though the vast cornucopia of information found on this site. I quickly put my old workouts to rest and began doing ones more suitable for musclebuilding. After a few months, i dropped my guitar class to take the weight room class at school. I began doing a condensed version of max-ot. I gained a lot of strength in a short amount of time, and i knew this was the sport i should be doing, and not cross-country.
Fast forward to this summer, i got a gym membership at balleys and now im doing max-ot with my brother. I've gained about 12 pounds of lean muscle over the year and now look much leaner than I ever did with cross country. I've been doing max-ot for about three weeks now and im still gaining. I now love going to the gym, feel more confident in myself, and set greater goals. With cross-country i was always in a constant failure. But with bodybuilding, the only person i can fail is myself, and that means a lot. I've also been suprsing myself with my own strengh, and i've become much more optimistic because of this. I hope to continue bodybuilding into college and who knows, i might start competing on the local level, but thats just a dream for now

Figured this would be the best place to start right.

First Name: Jonathan
Location: Sudbury, Ontario, Canada
Age: 32
Height: 6'0"
Weight: Was 410 pounds on Feb 16/2004 and was 330 pounds June 23/2004.

Well what to say? I guess it goes something like this:

As a young kid, I was always big. Not fat but just broad shouldered and strong without ever trying to be. I sort of got use to every one calling me big guy and stuff like that. For whatever reason though, I always felt I was fat. It wasn't till years later looking back at old pictures that I realized I was in great shape at the time.

Back to the story. In high school I was very active, played endless hours of tennis, football, basketball, baseball. Was quite good at it too. :P But eventually my self loathing, and inability to see myself in a good light, did me in. I found drugs and alcohol (as myko mentioned hehe)... I have been a daily user of drugs basically since I was about 14 till about 2 years ago now, as well as a regular smoker. Starting off slow at first, I eventually found my favorite drug in cocain.... till eventually I spent 30000 dollars, my entire life savings (which wasn't much).. lost my job, and basically had a mental breakdown. Anyway, over the years I started to put on weight, and it just kept on coming... till eventually I was 410 pounds.

I ended up putting myself in rehab to get all that **** worked out, and although I messed up a bit, I finally am 100% drug free and have been for the better part of 2 years now. I quite smoking on Feb. 9th. I started Atkins on Feb 16th. As well as started a daily cardio and weight training program of sorts.

So far I have lost 80 pounds in about 4 months. Probably more when you read this.
I have gone from near dying trying to walk .5 km... to now jogging/walking at least 3 miles every morning with an average sustained heart rate of 150+.
I have recently hiked 10km over a bush trail and lived to tell about it.
And I have pretty much doubled my strength in most area's.

I realize that a low carb diet, may not be the perfect partner to trying to build muscles.. but so far it is working incredibly well for me. I obviously am getting more then enough protein to make my muscles happy loosing about 4.5 pounds a week since I started yet still doubling my lifting power and endurance and in some cases more then that. Obviously though as I get closer to goal I keep adding in carbs. And realize there are benefits to carbs where weight training is concerned.

I have alot of questions regarding lots of things... supplements... routines... the whole nine yards... So prepare to hear some newbie questions... hehe. I have been looking around though too, and I do like to educate myself somewhat before I start wasting peoples time.

Eager to meet you all, and learn a thing or too.

Default G'day from Down Under!!

I thought I'd say a quick G'day...

You've got a good board here, and there's a good bunch of people making sensible contributions.

A bit about myself: I've been training off and on for a few years, but have never really made any gains. I've been told I'm an ectomorph which is basically a skinny guy who has a pretty fast metabolism! I'm 6'1" and 160 pounds (at the moment).

So, I've joined forces with Ben from synergisedfitness.com to try to bulk me up a bit. It's going pretty well, but the site isn't totally up and working yet -give it another week or so. Basically, he's putting my routines online, and I'm following through and submitting my daily progress, diet and thoughts as we go. It should be something a little new and worth a quick browse.

I'm certainly not trying to poach any guys from this board (how can we compete anyway). I think we offer a different service, with a much smaller forum. It's more so you can see my development. We started about 3 weeks ago and I'm feeling and seeing some pretty good gains so far. There will definitely be pictures every 2 weeks so you can see the progress.

Ben really knows his stuff and I know I'm going to achieve the goals we've set out. I have 4 months to reach 80kgs, do a one-armed chin-up and grow out of my current suit! Wish me luck and hard work!

Yours in Health and Fitness,

Jim

What's up everyone. I am a 16 year old guy who has been intrested in lifting weights for awhile. But let me tell you how i got to wanting to do this.I have always been a big boned guy.During the year of 2002 in deember i was a overweight kid in 9th grade. i weighed 205 and wasn't happy. When i would look at myself in pictures i would get upset and be embarassed to let anyone see them. Then i knew what i had to do. I took harge. i would at night go walking 2miles which i then was able to run a mile an walk a mile.Good for a big kid. after dieting and exercising with the Firm(recommend it to anyone!) i lost about 30 punds i got dwn to 168 and was proud of myself. It iwas the year of 2003 in august when i got to my goal weight. Then later i saw bodybuilding and big muscualr men and i thought i wanna be muscular. i started going to my small town gym. It isn't like Gold's gym or anything. it has about 40 machines and a couple of cardio machines including treadmills. I want to be muscular and lean but be big muscle wise. I am trying to stay fit sine my dad in 98 had a heartattack while driving his semi-truck on the interstate. He was acrried to a local hospital where he then had triple bi-pass surgery. Duringmy stay at the hospital they they had said he wouldn't make it. But form God he let him stay. So it is very important for me to stay fit. And also my Grnama died from a heartattack and had diabeties. So i take my health serious. When i got to the gym i run a mile-half a mile and bike 2 miles the workout 3 sest of 0 on the guys machines. in the afternoons i take me my pre and post workout meals where i make sure i get about normally 20-30 protein grams. I also drink about a gallon of water a day. I am spraying everywhere i go! i hate it.lol. i also try to get 6 small meals a day with protein. but yet somehting isn't right. I have been working out for a while. Too long to not be seeing results. I am very desperate and getting frustrated. And if you have any ideas it will be helpfull and appreciated. But i won't give up!

What's up everyone. I am a 16 year old guy who has been intrested in lifting weights for awhile. But let me tell you how i got to wanting to do this.I have always been a big boned guy.During the year of 2002 in december i was a overweight kid in 9th grade. i weighed 205 and wasn't happy. When i would look at myself in pictures i would get upset and be embarassed to let anyone see them. Then i knew what i had to do. I took charge. i would at night go walking 2miles which i then was able to run a mile and walk a mile.Good for a big kid. after dieting and exercising with the Firm(recommend it to anyone!) i lost about 30 punds i got down to 168 and was proud of myself. During his stay at the hospital they had said he wouldn't make it. But God let him live. So it is very important for me to stay fit. And also my Grandma died from a heartattack and had diabeties. So i take my health serious. When i got to the gym i run a mile-half a mile and bike 2 miles the workout 3 sest of 10 on the machines. in the afternoons i take my pre and post workout meals where i make sure i get about normally 20-30 protein grams. I also drink about a gallon of water a day. I am spraying everywhere i go! i hate it.lol. i also try to get 6 small meals a day with protein. but yet somehting isn't right. I have been working out for a while. Too long to not be seeing results. I am very desperate and getting frustrated. I have gained weight back doing this protein i am up 10 190 what did i do. i wanna lose fat and gain muscle not gain weight! And if you have any ideas it will be helpfull and appreciated. But i won't give up!
