Default Weight loss and protein advice

Hey guys, I'm looking for some advice on protein and weight loss, bascially I want to get lean. I'm 6'3 221 pounds currently(I'm a pretty big guy naturally). I started to really work out a lot the last week of January; I started at 243 pounds, so I've lost some weight already. I'm mostly just trying to loose the stomach and gain some more muscle and definition. I go to the gym about 4 times a week and have been trying to cut lately because I read it helps you burn more calories and fat. I just started eating 6 small meals a day a couple of weeks ago, for protein I went from Muscle Milk, Muscle Milk Light, and GNC Wheyabolic Extreme 60. I'm not taking any protein currently but I am taking vitamins and fish oil.

Anyway-What would be a good protein for me to invest in? I dont want something that is going to make me gain more weight since I'm already trying to loose it.
How much cardio should I be doing if any? Is just weight lifting enough?

Any tips/advice would be great! Thanks...

best bet would be to go get a good whey mix that you can use virtually anytime of the day. I use Myoplex by EAS for my general shakes and fillers here and there. If you are trying to lose weight, you do want to cut on calories, but you need to make sure that you are getting enough protein and aminos to maintain the muscle you do have still and burn mostly fat instead.

Keep your protiein upwards of 1.5g per lb of bodyweight and eat only complex carbs which will burn slower keeping your energy higher and metabolism running. I personally have found that the whole low carb diet is great for a short term achievement, but you really cant make progress in your goals in you take 1 step forward and two steps back. There are plenty of discussions like this in the diet section.

hope that helps.

Thanks that does help. I'm leaning towards ON Gold Standard Whey, it seems to be pretty reputable around here.

Not sure I totally understand what you are trying to accomplish but try to get most of your protein from real food sources. If you want to supplement w/ protein powders then pick one that you like and can afford.

Is lifting and diet enough to burn my fat or should I be doing lots of cardio? How much cardio should I do without burning any muscle?

K man. Just putting it out there. whey protien is the best option for you diet with all the good food 6 times a day and that. Make sure you dont eat late at night pref 2-3 hours before bed. I know every one says diff but i think this works. Take bcaa, it should be in most whey shakes but buy some tablets of those cause you need them if your going to do cardio.
Bcaa will help store muscle, and prevents muscle break down after a good gym sesh. saying this to get toned it is a good idea to do cardio...
Every gym sesh do 7-10 min at least of cardio until you feel hot and start to sweat before workin out. This will notch up your heart rate which equals burning more calories/stored carbs and fat...while gaining muscle. and after workout take your bcaa and do again cardio sesh for 7-maybe 15 depending on how you feel (make sure this time the cardio is interval, so fast one minute on the tread then slow 1 min, then fast..and so on). it is proven that you burn more calories after workouts. And of course eat straight after so your body doesnt start diggin on the hard earned muscle you earned as fuel even though u did take Bcaa.
I hope u understand that I think its good

Thanks for your help! I'm taking ON Whey and it has 5.5g of BCAA per serving...Would that be enough to keep my muscle on while doing cardio? I've also read that there is no such thing as getting "cut" because your muscle can only get bigger, stay the same, or get smaller so there is no point in using lighter weight and more reps. The only way you can get more definition is to loose fat and get a bigger muscle. What's your take on this?
