Default Flax Seed Oil and Fish Oil, Friend or weight gaining Foe

I had a question about Flax seed Oil. Is this good to take for weight gain or weight loss. I am a little confused. 1tbsp has 120 calories, and it has 20% of DV fat. 1 cup has over 1900 calories. Yet I see this is used for weight loss. It doesn't make sense. It's like saying peanut butter makes you lose weight. Flax oil is a fat. I see that it can give you more energy, in which in turn, would speed up the metabolism in theory. Can anyone comment on this, or have taken this?

Flax seed oil contains healthy omega-3 fatty acids which are good for your heart and cholesterol levels. Fish oil also contains omega-3 oils, so both are a good supplement to your diet, especially if you're not eating a lot of fish. It is believed that omega-3's "increases fat-burning ability by improving the flow of blood to muscles during exercise". However, it is also important to lower your levels of saturated fat found in animal products such as beef or cheese, and replace it with these heart healthy fats.

Another source is taking pill supplements which tend to have fewer calories than the actual flaxseeds or oil forms. I currently take the Optimum Nutrition flaxseed and fishoil softgels; they only contain 10 calories a piece.

One last suggestion. If you do decide to use actual flax seeds, make sure to grind them, otherwise they pass through your system undigested and thus you don't fully absorb those omega-3's.

Hope this helped!
