Default New Here! Mini Muscleman and more

I don't want this to be another "newb" thread so I want to contribute this thread. Check this insane little man out. Is that motivation or what?!

Mini-muscleman: Meet the world's smallest bodybuilder | the Daily Mail

Anyways I just wanted to introduce myself. I'm about to turn 22 and currently a student. From 04-06 I was very heavy in the gym, was part of 24Hour fitness, worked out 5 days a week etc. 06-the end of 07 I quit my gym and stopped lifting weights. I simply focused on school and partying (mostly the partying part) and now its catching up to me.

I'm 165lbs and 6'1
I don't think I need to lose weight, but I do need to lose the fat. I started noticing after the long heightus and beer drinking, my cheeks in my face are a bit chubber, and if I tilt my head down far enough, I have the dreaded "double" chin.

It's now the second month of 2008 and I started changing my life style. I didn't eat too bad before, but now I'm being strict and super clean. Not only have I changed what foods I'm starting to eat but I'm also making the portions a lot smaller.

I eat 3 "meals" a day (breakfast, lunch, dinner) and I snack inbetween those meals. Sadly my hunger doesn't go down with the portions I'm eating... =/ I snacks include fruits, mixed nuts etc..and now starting up veggies.

First and foremost, do I have the right idea here? Not only has my diet gotten better but I'm back in the weight room and I also started doing cardio which I never did before. I jog about a mile for 3 days a week, sometimes 4.

One last question, would you recommend me purchasing some type of protein supplement such as ON's Whey or Muscle Milk? I have used both of them before, but I was also eating much more (bulking) Muscle Milk is great, but the fat contents scare me fore my goal of cutting.

There's already a thread about the mini bodybuilder.

As for cutting, 165 lbs and over 6ft? What is there to cut? I'm 190 and 5'9 and am pretty lean.

Grab the whey. You looking to bodybuild or just cut (althought I really can't picture much to cut?)

Everyone can tilt their head to form a double chin hahahahaha. Got a picture? Give us some more information and be detailed with your goals.

Sorry Virus, I tried to post the link way earlier but it took too long before any mods could approve the post I guess.

I'm looking to do both bodybuiding, but I want to cut a bit first because of spring break coming up etc.

I went ahead a bought the 2lbs of ON's Whey Gold (Cookies N' Cream flavor). I might look into Muscle Milk more down the road but for now, its not what I need.

Here are a few pictures..

This is me back in the summer of 05 after I have been working out 5 days a week for a long period of time

Spring Break o7 fishing on the coast. At that point I stopped going to the gym.

And here is one taken I'd say around November of 07

That last picture is a nice example of the "chubbyness" in my face. I'm not really tilting my head down, but you can see, the jaw line isn't cut that well.

My goals are too trim down some fat to have more "definition" and tone throughout my entire body, but maintain my current weight and gain strength. Oh yeah... and I need to loose this small beer gut I required over the years. I know thats vague and thats what everyone says, but I don't really know how else to explain it.

I just started working out with my good buddy at our university rec center. I just joined his routine which is 5 days in the weight room (monday-friday) targetting 1 to 2 muscle groups a day and really working them. In that 5 day period we get in a mile job about 3 times.

Well kudos for joining man, and although I dont post all that regularly, let me give you some advice. Dont make the same mistake I did and start cutting at 165 in order to get more "tone" because you will look like a toothpick with no muscle. For example, I was 150 pounds at 9% bodyfat at 5'11. Even though I was skinny and trim, I had no six-pack or any muscle for that matter. I thought to myself "Hey, why dont you clean your diet and run so you can see your abs." WRONG! As a result, I ran myself down to 140 lbs, still no six-pack, and no muscle. So after I found out I was doing it all wrong, I decided to start eating a TON of food and taking mass gainers and lifting heavy. Now I'm 175 lbs. and all my lift stats have gone way up. My six pack is clear as day, and somehow my body fat actually reduced to 7% (I'm a hardgainer and have the metabolism of a bullet). Not to mention other muscles are getting much bigger too. The moral of the story is that you should not cut right now, instead you need to eat loads of food and bulk up to 185 or 190 and lift heavy to gain muscle mass. From here you should then cut your excess fat and you'll look like a million bucks. From your pictures I can tell from your arms and stomach that you arent fat, you just have a lack of muscle.

If you want to look lean for spring break, then by all means cut right now, but you will probably find out (as I found out) that even though you have a flat stomach, you have no ab definition, no pectoral muscle, no traps, no anything. It's hard to have a "quick fix" to get the body you want, and although this may not be the answer you want, I will just end up saving you time by emphasizing the fact that now is not the time to cut. I hope this helps, and even though it is a lengthy process it is well worth it. Good luck.

Sorry I or another mod didn't get to your post. We usually are pretty quick.

Judging by them pictures, you really don't appear 165. Sounds like you got your routine down n' cardio. Hopefully you mean jog and not job though, a mile job could be even more nasty than a mile jog, hehe!

Can you post up your 5-day routine including exercises, reps/sets?

haha yes def jog*

I'm doing this "Max OT" routine with my friend.
AST Sports Science - Max-OT Introduction

The routine rotates every day so I'm not completely sure what this week is like (I rely on my buddy)

but I just registered there so I can start printing it out too. We also add a few more exercises than what it tells us.

but an example of what our Monday workout was like (yesterday) is

standing row: 3 sets of 10 reps
lat pull downs: 3 sets of 10 reps
sitting row: 3 sets of 10 reps

then we jumped on some machine that works your lower back, you sit down and bend backwards (sorry I don't know the name lol) 3 sets of 10

after working our back we hit our biceps.

hammer curls: 3 sets of 10
preacher curls: 3 sets of 10
barbell curls: 3 sets of 10

after the weights we try to get some crunches in and then job the mile

I have a quick question about my whey protein.

Currently I'm taking one serving on ON's Gold Whey Protein with water after my work out (thats a set up for me, I used to only handle it with milk!)

question: Most of the time after I lift weights I go job the mile or do some cardio. Should I down my whey protein right after the weights and before the cardio or wait for the cardio to finish?

question 2: Since my whey has 24g of protein, my friend said I should also take it when I wake up in the morning since I have been fasting all night, its good intake. Should I do this in the morning and post workout?

If you don't get sick while jogging take it after you lift. If it cause you problems - take it after you jog.

I take my whey supplement once when I wake up with water for quick uptake and then again immediately after my workout. I usually wait to take my shake after im completely done with my workout.

If I couldn't eat as much as I should of on any given day, then I also down a Probolic shake immediately before sleep. It has slow digestion complexes so I can get the protein I need over-night. I try to eat atleast 3/4 of my protein from my diet. But as a student, it can be tough sometimes.

Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Very well put. The concept of people relying on supplements to get big over diet is pretty bad. If you simply just can't eat cause of a schedule (my being a college student myself Gill, I fully understand your flow of what your saying) then resorting to extra protein shakes and stuff/supplements is okay. I mean, you gotta do what you gotta do and it's better than NOTHING.

I have a view similar to virus' (and ultimately Gill's as well) but I also feel that food supplements are simply an enhancement of my solid food diet. Then again, my dietary supplements are organic whole food-based supplements: just as good as eating food. I've touched on this issue before but the food we're eating is extremely stripped of key nutrients for many reasons, mainly due to our poor agricultural practices. Nutritional supplements are just delivering nutrients that are so often non-existent in the food we eat on a daily basis.

Everyone should be on a nutritional support program to ensure they're getting their daily require nutrients that are essential to maintaining optimal health. That being said, we should all be looking into ODI's not RDA's and such. We're here to ensure we can maintain our optimal physical health and display a fit appearance as well.

Stick to the routine as outlined. It's set-up that way for a reason and works best as described. Take my word for it and you will see for yourself the quality of benefits you reap.

P.S. I can't help but perceive some of the pictures of the mini-muscle man as photo shopped. Am I alone in thought on that one or what?

Thanks for the feedback guys, I really do appreciate it. I'm on my 3rd week of lifting monday through friday and I can already notice in increase in stamina and endurance. Its a good feeling especially after all that time off and then heading into the gym with less strength than I had previously.

I'm going to take your advice and just take my whey after the run. I tried it a few times before the mile and I just didn't finish all that strong.

DannyB, I think I see your point about changing up the rountine, I don't want to over do it. I'm really happy with Max-OT as of now
