Default Hi, New to the forum

Hi, I just signed up here after reading a few of the posts around here for the last week or so. I am a 20 year old, 5'11'' 165 lb male. I have been going to the gym to lift weights very inconsistently (Go 4 days a week for a couple weeks, then not go for half a month, then get into it again, etc, etc) for the past year or so and have decided to really get into a routine and stick to it. I used to only do chest, biceps, and triceps, but I am now interested in getting a little more variation in my workout (although I really have no desire to do legs). I am not really interesting in getting really huge, just add some muscle and be fairly toned. I also want to lose a little body fat, so I am planning on bulking for a few months then doing a plan for cutting after that.

I have been reading through a lot of the workout routines, and think that I have come up with my own which would suit me. I plan on posting it in the near future to get some other opinions on it.

Regardless of your goals and wants, neglecting your legs is just all n all a bad idea. Include them in whatever routine you compose.

A KITE!!! LOL. I LOVE IT! I saw this guy at the gym yesterday morning who had a HUGE upper body. Wearing shorts, I saw his legs...TOOTHPICKS! Now, I don't have anything to brag about, but damn. It was funny.

Why is it that people think that just because they do leg exercises, they are gonna get HUGE? I read this too often. It is not true. There is so much more to getting HUGE than leg exercises.

Doing leg exercises will help you achieve any goal you set forth. Being the largest muscles in your body, they release the most testosterone and growth hormone. They will build more lean muscle than any other muscles in your body and help to burn fat! If you think your legs are getting to big, then lessen the weight and add reps, but don't not do them.

Don't be lazy, do the legs. At the very least, do squats, lunges and deadlifts.

RyanLRams you are not alone. Once I listened to people like PowerJim, Boyd, and JLo, and dropped all the little nuance exercises and concentrated on the big 3, I was stunned at where my numbers went. I don't shoot for numbers like power lifters and I don't care what my max bench is. But if you want to get big AND loss fat, ignoring leg work is like welding a Volkswagen Beetle rear-end to a Ferrari!

Don't make much sense does it?

Ok, thanks for the tips guys. I have been reading a little bit more around the web lately, and everyone recommends doing legs for the reasons you stated. I guess I will have to find a place for them in my routine.
