Old Guy
I'm 53 years old and I've been lifting for @ 18 years now. In Feb. of '03 I decide I wanted to get on stage and compete once before I was so old, I'd have to use a walker to do so. I was also at 250 lbs. I took on a trainer to help with my diet. By Oct. of '03 I was ready to enter my first competion with a weight of 202 lbs and a BMI of 198 lbs. At my age I decided to enter the Masters (over 50). I took first place. I decided to change career fields and went back to college in fall of '03. I was also in a motorcycle accident a month later, which gave me compound sprial fracture of the tibia and fibia. They put a rod down my tibia and a plate and screws in my ankle. Exactly one year from the accident, almost to the hour, I was back on stage in Tampa competing. Even tho I came in 4th out of 5 competors, I felt a great accomplishment having bounced back as quick as I did. I have enjoyed the whole ordeal so much, the dieting, training, posing etc, that I try to compete at least once a year. The hardware hasn't caused any problem. I still squat 360 lbs and lift heavier than 70 % of the people in Golds. Don't believe anyone who tells you, you can't put on muscle after 40.
