Bellingham Highland Games
Date: 6/03/2006 Location: Bellingham, WA Amateur B Athlete - Sean Taylor Place - 1 Points - 22 Open Stone (17lb) - 32'-7" Heavy Wgt for Dist - 27'-10.5" Light Wgt for Dist - 51'-4" Light Hammer - 104'-11" Caber (15', 75#) - 80 deg Weight for Height - 11'-0" Sheaf - 14'-0" This time I got good nights sleep (in a really crappy hotel) and did not drink much night before or day of throwing. My hammer was off the hook. My hammer throw was better than some of the A class athletes. I fianlly did 2 spins in the light weight for distance and got over 48'. It was fugly but it was 2 spins and it only added 3 more feet but now I can break that 48' barrier. Stones sucks as usual. Gotta work on that, maybe find a HS shotputter and get some practice in with them. Next game is Prosser WA on 6.17.06. That one will be an open Amatuer class so my competition will incluse guys who are usually in the A class. Should be a good gauge as to my progress thus far. Overall amatuer B ranking = 19 Lt Hammer ranking = 19 Hvy Hammer ranking = 53 Last edited by Sean; 06-08-2006 at 12:41 PM. |

Anyway, years past by and I got back into working out again when I moved to Oregon and then one day a commercial came on the TV about the 49th annual Portland Highland games. I went online and signed up. I competed that first time, had a blast and waked away with many new friends that I still compete with 4 years later. If anyone has the games in their area, I suggest they try it at least once. It is cheap to compete, usuallu $20-$25 and you usually get a nice lunch, T-shirt, adoring fans cheering your name, and lots of friends. |

Results from Prosser, WA games.
Gameday = 6/17/06 Amateur B Athlete - Sean Taylor Place - 2 Points - 17 Braemar Stone (24lb) - 25'-9" Heavy Wgt for Dist - 25'-4" Light Wgt for Dist - 51'-10.5" *Personal Record Light Hammer - 100'-4" Caber (15', 85#) - 11:50 Weight for Height - 12'-0" *Personal Record Sheaf - 16'-0" *Personal Record And the festival has traditional event called the Anvil Toss. Athletes have the option of attempting to lift and throw for distance a 120# anvil. You get a 15' run up. Anvil Toss (120#) - 12' 1" I broke the record in the Weight for Height adn the Anvil Toss. The game was awesome, attendance from both spectators and athletes was great. You felt a reall appreciation from the fans for putting on a good show and many bought us beers in the beer tent afterward. Good fun. Need to work on the double spin for heavy more. My double spin on the light is coming along, I added some distance since Bellingham. Last edited by Sean; 06-20-2006 at 11:11 AM. |

Amateur B
Athlete - Sean Taylor Place - 2 Points - 31 Open Stone (16.5lb) - 32'-8" Braemar Stone (96lb Portland Stone) - 13'-7" Heavy Wgt for Dist - 25' Light Wgt for Dist - 47'-4" Light Hammer - 103'-3" Heavy Hammer - 80'-3" Caber (16', 105#) - 11:45 Weight for Height - 12'-0" Well, the numbers show I did poorly in my WFD for both the heavy and the light. My hammers are still bang on and I am feeling confident in getting over 100' with light and over 80' with heavy. WFH I actually could have cleared 12'6" but we went up a whole foot after 12' cause I was trying to psych out the new guys (one of which beat me for first by 3 pts.). The Portland stone was a beast and I thought I could get the record of 15'-4" but since we started with it at 9AM I was not warmed up enough. Good new!! I actually place first in caber, first time ever. I turned an 11:45 and a 12:15, which are exactly the same score. Things to work on are my Open Stone and my WFD. Screwed up the second spin on light WFD and came up with crappy score. checked the NASGA rankings for Amatuer B class and I am now ranked 15th Next up will be Bend, OR early next month. Until then... Man you can throw the heck out of a hammer! I don't even think I can throw a frisbee that far
Great showing big man! You have got to be one intimidating site when you show up at the games.

Well, thanks to my poor planning, work duties, and my finals coming up I was forced to drop out of the Bend games and now it looks like I will miss Winston at that is taking place this weekend also. Bad setback to a season that started off so damn good. Gonna loss footing in the ranking for sure now. DAMN!

Had friends go there this year this year and throw in the Master World Championships. Planning on going in 2-3 years just to throw, not really thinking I can win after seeing some of the footage they brought back |
