Well, I wanted to head into the gym today...but I'm still using my albuterol a bit too much...so I did a light full-body at home. Good thing as I needed my inhaler part-way through the workout and ended up with the shakes.

Week 6 - Day 1

Zerchers 3 sets/8r - 100#
Romanian deads 3 sets/8r - 100#
Seated calf raises 3 sets/8r - 100#
Conventional GM's 3 sets/8r - 50#

Bent over BB rows 3 sets/8r - 50#
Seated military press 3 sets/5-8-8 - 50/40/40
*Just didn't have it in me for 50 again.
DB incline press 3 sets/8r - 20#
CG bench 3 sets/8r - 40#

M-ball abs 2 sets/25r jack-knives
*Decided not to do another set since Eric usually has us work our abs

Eh...that's it. I'm not particularly happy...

Tuesday I was lucky enough to have another one-on-one class with Eric. At least I think I was lucky...we always work my backside off! Kicks, my front-ball, side and rear kicks need work...and we worked 'em. Lordy, my glutes and quads are sore today!

I got my call back from Kim on my TSH levels. They are showing 'normal' (I forgot to ask her the actual numbers...I can do that in 6 weeks when we re-do my blood work.) but since I'm still not doing well from day to day as far as getting past noon without crashing and burning badly almost daily, we agreed that I should go up another 15 mg on my Armour Thyroid. So I start the additional dose with my regular dose tomorrow. Let's hope this does it...we'll know in 6 weeks.

On a different note...
The docs have decided that they have done all they can for my sis-in-law. The tumor has not shrunk and they have done all the radiation and chemo they can. Hospice has been called in. So now we keep her as comfortable as possible and wait...

I still have to tell my oldest and youngest. It's killing me...I have had nothing but 'bad news' for them about their beloved auntie for the past few weeks as her condition has begun to deteriorate. After a while you come to hate being the bearer of bad news.

I was with my mom's mother when she died...but she was in her 90's and had a good life...this is killing me. Jan is the sweetest and most generous person I know...it's so unfair to lose her when her grandies are still so young and she should have so many years ahead of her to enjoy them...

Eh...I'm around. Thurs-Sunday I was a bit under-the-weather with a weather related fibro-flare. Nothing too severe, just enough to keep me groggy and off kilter. I did get my MA class in on Thursday. No hike Friday due to the rains.

Gypsy and I took off yesterday for a short afternoon hike up Soapstone Mtn in Shenipsit State Forest in CT. We both really needed to get outside and clear our heads.

My nephew is up from NC...we had the chance to chat 'horse' the other day. It's rather cool to have someone else in the family besides my kids understand about life with horses! (The 'new' boarder is coming along. He's relaxing, gaining weight and has been pretty well behaved on the ground for his owner. I have them working back through all his basics. We also just started stretching/flexibility exercises on him as well. Poor old guy...he's pretty unbalanced and stiff from his ordeal prior to being brought here.)

My middle son and his family are going to be here in a couple weeks. Jer wants to see his aunt before things get worse. I'll be thrilled to have them here for a couple weeks...but boy it's awful when something like this brings your babies home...

One-on-one class with Eric last night. I worked my backside off on my kicks and some of my short forms this weekend. Two hours alone on Friday night, and some of that as weighted work. But I have finally mastered a couple short forms that were evading me...and my kicks that were giving me trouble are finally showing improvement. Although...all this kick work is giving me chronically sore hips, glutes, hams and quads!

I'm still rather groggy late mornings/mid-day...which is actually driving me absolutely insane!

Sounds to me like you probably still have the best gams in your MA class Hawkie. I know too well what you mean about the hips and butt. Still, how many people our age are complaining about workout pains? Hope you feel better real soon!

I can talk to the natropathic doctor thats on staff at our shop and see what he says....

Youll get through it....

Also if you can get it research the herb stinging nettle its has good properties to open up bronchial passages, they usta dose it with mau huang till america fkked that one up....

Hey Wee!

Yes, as a matter of fact I've been supplementing with a woman's glandular. But...it can't be used alone. In my research I discovered that even the Chinese practitioners of traditional Chinese medicine have their hypo-thyroid patients on thyroid/hormone. So there is no way around it for me.

I am also using Secretagogue-One. I'm doing better, leaning out steadily...in fact I just bought some clothes...and discovered when they arrived that they are in fact a tad too loose...meaning I'm down another size.

Past couple of weeks have been tough. On Mother's Day...the 'mother-of-my-heart' died. I was devastated as it was sudden and I never really got over losing her husband Sully (my mentor) and their daughter Mary...so to have Jean go was a rough blow to my heart. She was 86, but when you are not ready to lose someone you love and adore...it makes no difference.

The good news is: I was reunited with my three 'brothers-of-my-heart' and their now adult kids. I was very, very close to the family and losing contact with them was hard on me. But those who live or have lived with an abusive spouse know how easy it is to let yourself become secluded to keep the peace. Being reunited with my 'other' family at this time has been a blessing. I'm having a really hard time watching my beloved sister-in-law fade.

It's awful to say...but I often wish it was her brother (my husband) with the brain tumor and not her. She's the most wonderful kind and giving person I know...he's such a selfish b*astard compared to her.)
(BTW...Sen. Kennedy was just diagnosed with the same condition/type of tumor my sis-in-law has.)

Anyhow...I've been getting in my lifting, MA and hiking when I can. My middle son and his family are here for another week, they arrived the day after Jean's funeral. So having my grandies here has been keeping me from turning into myself over the loss of Jean...and that's a good thing.

I go back for blood work again soon. I think I'm going to let Kim send me to the specialist. We've upped my Armour. I feel a lot better...but I'm still dragging badly mid-day most days and it's driving me nuts!

Oh! BTW...I've been kicking butt with my bo staff work and I start my broad sword work soon! My son laughed his ass off and shook his head, "Jeez mom, another weapon?" Heh...I guess when you grow up with a mom that can kick your butt with firearms, recurves and compound bows and you finally whip her butt (took them both well into their teens)...I guess it's a bit amusing to find out that she took on new weapons training!

Off to lift...have a good 'un.

I managed to sneak in some lifting in today:

BB Bench
5 sets/5 reps - 60/65/70*/65/60
*

W/G lat pull downs
5 sets/5 reps - 60/70/80/70/60

Zerchers
2 sets/5 reps - 140*
Discovered that my little old bench cannot tolerate the 140! Slipped the hooks and landed the bar on my right thigh, down near my knee...needless to say I have a bruise and will stick to light zerchers (100 pounds) when I'm home from now on...

Conventional Deads
5 sets/5 reps 140/130/120/100/100

Color me happy!
I just picked up a stepper to add to my equipment/home gym.
Man do I love people that give up fitness equipment for free this time of year!

Default Back tuit!

My son and his family headed out today...so I decided to sneak back to they gym before anyone 'needed' me!

So...my lower body 'back tuit' workout was as follows:

Squats 5s/5r - 95/115/135/155/175
Zerchers 5s/5r - 95/115/135/145/145
PS-GM's 5s/5r - 95/115/135/115/95
C-GMs 5s/5r - 95/115/135/145/145
Rack Romanians 5s/5r - 95/115/135/155/135
Seated calf raises 3s/15-10-8r - 50/70/90
*Two hikes planned end of week so I took it easy on the calves
Hypers 3s/8r - BW/10/10 *Probably could have done the 25 plate.
Back ex machine 3s/8r - pin @ 4/4.5/5
Abs decline crunches 4s/15r - 10/10*/25/24
*Second set were oblique crunches

I'm gonna be a hurting pup tomorrow...but I'm a happy Hawk today.

I got my broad sword tonight...started training with it too. Oh dayum...I'm going to really have to be careful about my hair! It's long and I swing that puppy right around my neck...had to pull my tied hair over my shoulder at one point.

Also...Eric is testing 3 of us next Thursday! Yikes! I have to practice my butt off this week!

Default Hike Day

Gypsy and I took off to check on a newly repaired railbed trail that is eventually going to connect with the Southern New England Trunkline trail...a trail that has many, many intersecting trails and runs along the Massachusetts/Connecticut border for over 50 mile before crossing into Connecticut. At this point there are spots that have not fully been connected, a bridge needs to be repaired in one area and other similar repairs, but the completion of the newest section is going along very well. We've decided that this area we checked out today will be great for snowshoeing or cross country skiing.

I was very happy to find that the TLT runs along a canoe trail that I used quite a bit in my teens.

I have two goals for this year.
First: purchase a used mountain bike so Gypsy and I can trek/ride some of the railtrails in New England. (She's in the midst of repairing her bike, so I have to get my backside in gear, she'll be mobile soon!) There are more than a few places were we would like to leave our m-bikes with rangers so that we can pick them up at the end of a trail and bike back to the Blazer.
Second: Purchase a couple used kayaks so we can get some water/river trail time in. I have been on a few local river trails over the years and miss kayaking.

As you can tell...I really am an outdoorsy gal. Give me a backpack, kayak, bike, snowshoes or horse and I'm outta the house and into the wilds.

Today's Hike (Saturday):
Gypsy and I met up with her neighbor to hike the far northern section of Shenipsit State Forest where it ends in Connecticut and starts in Massachusetts. DL's family has owned a piece of property on the MA side of Shenipsit since the 1920's. We were out for 3 hours or so and had a great time, identifying plants and talking the geology and history of the area as well as investigating the area around a couple beaver ponds. I was happily engrossed quite often spotting foundation plantings and investigating the area until we found the foundations. We were also quite happy to spot a Great Blue Heron on our way back to the trailhead at one of the ponds.

Sunday PM Cardio: 30 minutes - elliptical

Week 2 - Day 1
Upper body work

Pin-suspended bench (Pinky on rings)
45/55/65/75/65 - 5/5/5/3*/5 reps
*Just could not lock out those last two reps on the 75 pounds. But! When I make it to 80 I'll be setting a PB...I can just about 'taste' that puppy.

DB decline bench
10/12/15/20/25 x 5 reps
*Hmmm...could not find anything between the 15 and 20's...guess I better get up to 30 then. (Or try like heck!)

DB alt. Arnold press
10/12/15/20/15 x 5 reps
Seated BB military press
5 sets/5 reps - 45#

T-Bar rows
Bar + 25/30/35/40/45 x 5 reps
*Anyone have any idea the approximate weight of the bar on the T-Bar row platform by any chance?
Machine Rows *Hammer Strength (?)
50/60/70/80/90 x 5 reps Not far from a PB here either!

Reverse EZ bar curls
25/30/35/40/35 x 5 reps
Ez bar curls
25/30/35/30/25 x 5 reps
*I actually did some bi work today!

Machine Triceps press
50/55/60/65/70 x 5 reps Inner setting
50/55/60/65/70 x 5 reps Outter setting

Oh! Oh! Oh! I'ma happy Hawkie...yes indeedy!

Also...what a huge difference in my confidence having that bar on the pins instead of trying to rack between sets! Between tearing my shoulder a few years back and dropping a loaded bar on my chest a few years back when my grip let go...I have very little confidence in myself when it comes to benching. Sometimes you have to leave your ego at the door and do whatya gotta do to get the job done.

You know how I worry
I've been very careful about the heat N-sarge. It came on too sudden and I know my body is not used to it. I've been pushing the fluids and relaxing a lot. I'm going to tie my hair tighter and put it beneath my T-shirt. I don't fancy holding my braid between my teeth...so down the back of the shirt instead!

And yes, I'm quite tickled with my progress. I've decided to shorten up my training cycle from 10 weeks with deloading on week 9 and resting for two weeks after week to 10 to 4 weeks of 3 weeks max effort, 1 week deload a decide on the need for a break the deload week...but probably rest on week 8 adding another week if need be.
