Woo whooo! Congratulations KT! On your new job, your upcoming promotion, and learning Nunchuku! I hear you about "hitting" yourself more then being able to hit an opponent. LOL! I have the old Oak style chuks and not the light weight rattan or foam covered ones so every time I make a mistake I feel it!

Keep at it girlie!

I havent been real focused on weight training much at all. I think last week I did chest/tri and a back and bi day. I have been able to get in some cardio in the mornings though. A little treadmill here and stepper there. Once I get in the swing of things ill work it back in consistantly.
I'm still trying to adjust my lifting around my MA training and am self-employed...so I can only imagine how tough it is to fit all your desired training in!

Karate training is going great. I am sorta coming into myself so to speak. Some of the move are becoming second nature to me. Its amazing how much one can condition the body in 12 months. We have been doing nuchuku for about 6 weeks now and truthfully Im diggin it. At first I didnt like it at all. I just couldnt help thinkiing " are weapons to hit other people with ....instead of myself" But Im getting it now and enjoying the laughter that comes when learning to control the things. Friday I will have a stripe test which basically is the halfway mark to my purple belt.....woohoo.
Kudos! Sounds like you are doing great! I cannot wait until I get to start weapons training.

I cant wait for the holidays to pass. I love the season but my schedule this year is slam packed.

this week Ive been hitting double cardio. 30 minute stepper before work. And 30 minute power walk after dinner with the ole man. And just prior to class Ill did a quick full body 3-4 sets per group weight session. Its been working out great. Helps to move the food through before karate class.

Im starring at a 6month count down till brown belt test. It is my intention to be in the best shape possible. I want my brown belt promotion to be a true demonstration of my ability. And not just moving up in rank.

I would like to improve my flexibility...... MORE STRETCHING. = higher kicks.
I need to also focus on adding combinations. I sometimes find myself using only the ones I've gotten good at. In order to get good at others I need to expand on that.
I dont do well with shoulder rolls either. Im afraid of hurting my neck and back. I know if I can just relax and let it "roll" Ill be fine but seems like its easier said than done.

this week is the closest Ive come to a regimen since Ive started back to full time. No too bad, but I still dont have my mind on it 100%. I know that needs to happen and happen soon if Im going to achieve my goal for brown belt.

Lot's of good thoughts and prayers for you KT! I am right there with you on the hectic schedule. Sounds like your Karate training is right on track. My knee and schedule change has kept me out of training for over about a month. Oh, and we want pics when you get "in the best shape of your life"! Isn't it strange how we started this bodybuilding/weightlifting lifestyle only to shoot of a take up something crazy like a Martial Art? At our age! What the hell were we thinking?

So glad your "Old Man" is right there with you supporting you. Always nice to share everything! Happy Holidays to my Northern neighbor!

I hear you on the stretching! I've been a stretching maniac of late! Woot...heading for the brown. That rocks.

Have you heard of: Ultimate Flexibility: A Complete Guide to Stretching for Martial Arts by Sang H. Kim ?

I have been using it to help me with my trouble spots and what a difference!

Awesome hawk...I can definately use a resource like that. Ill check into it.
Last night i learned some pretty intense moves. The only down side to them is they require a partner.

Last night we worked the hell out of a defensive side kick. WOOOO my gluts are lit up today. LOVE IT!!!

Still hitting double cardio ...stepper am and walking pm.

On a side note ....i burned the crap out of my leg saturday decorating the motorcycle for the parade. holy moly i got big ole blisters on calf. Not fun at all. With the dogs and my sparring pads grrrrrrrr. So now Im done winning about that.

I'm gonna try to fnd pics fromt he parade...what a blast spredding holiday cheer.

Great source Hawk! Sang H. Kim has some excellent TKD sparring DVD's too. In fact, they are on my "Wish List" this Christmas. Sorry to hear about the burn KT; hot exhaust? Glue gun go off? Welding antlers to your bike?

Hope your better soon! What's Christmas without fishnets and leather?

Today is December 30th...just a couple days to get it together.

Here's the plan ...not so mucha new years resolution but just a good start day.
Over the past few months i havent done any kind of serious training. Weight training=slacking cardio=slacking even my m.a. is slacking. I must get my head back in the game!!

As of January 1st. 22 weeks ....152 days till Brown belt testing. This is a HUGE DEAL to me. As ive stated before i dont want to just get promoted I want this to be a true demonstartion of my ability. Right now....my bf% is up thus making all the other number down.

AS of right now this is what Im chewing on.....vit may change a little here and there but this is the general idea. Over the next two days Ill be putting something in stone....to keep me on track.

6 days....
Am before work-6:00am
cardio.....30 min
stepper, teadmill, jumprope, walk/jog

immediately after work -5:30pm
calisthenics-

pushups, crunches, jumping jack, lunges
and some basic plyometrics

evening-7:30

mon-tues-thurs
karate class

fri-sat
2 day split weights
low reps heavier weight

weds -full body
high reps lower weight

I dont plan on counting calories just eating what I know is right and avoiding ...sugar, white flour, and unnatural fats. focusing on protein, balanced with fruits and veggies......

Ill be starting hydroxy cut as well...and getting my water intake back up to a gallon day.
woops gotta get ready to go to church ....ill finish tweaking this later..............

Looking good KT. I just realized that your class days are the same as mine. Fudges up my lifting a bit as I hike on Fridays in the good weather.

One thought. I have a very hard time with anything that resembles hydroxycut as I get severe jitters. This year I started using Atro-Phex by BSN and I'm much happier with it for help in cutting. It's a bit pricier, but I found it's well worth it.

Check this book out. It has some great stretches using a ladder, thus negating the need for a partner. Also, some great midsection exercises for your MA training.

cool.....yeah i definatley need ome stuff that doesnt require a partner. I enjoy training witht the ole man ....I find I get more accomplished on my own.

As far as the hydroxy cut....you are right about the jitters. I get a little high stung the first couple days then it levels out. We'll see how it goes this time around and maybe concider the atro-phex a go.

yesturday morning the ole man and I took a nice brisk walk around the neighborhood.
I didnt get in my weights as the garage was a mess frompacking up all the christmas decorations. So i spent the day getting that all clean.

There will be no karate class till next week. Probably a good things.

Diet wise I did well. Until I spotted the gingerbread house...so i did eat a few gum drops. ......
All the crap is out of the house now so we're good to go.

hit the stepper for 30 minutes this morning. gonna do a full body workout this evening.

Great Day....
6:00 am 30 min stepper

8:00 pm...
put in about 45 outside on the bag. Got the heart rate up wiyh upper body warm-up. Then kicks. I like to put ankle weights on 3 x 20.

Dispite not training consistantly for a tie I did keep stretching. I mentioned I watned to get my kicks up higher. It because I owe one of my class mates a roundhouse to the head.......I do pretty good sparring, other than black belts I can win a round 2. So this one day I was 2 points up on this candidate. I could see her getting frustrated. Then WHAM she pulled this roundhouse out of her back pocket. Outta nowhere she got me. It didnt hurt but it sure got my attention. Instantly I was like "OH NO SHE DIDN'T!" I made a vow that day that I owe her one. Great motivation to want to get my kicks higher.

Anyway....tonight things were looking good. Kicks are without a doubt a strength for me.

did some lunges, pushups, and jump rope. no certain amount. 3-4 sets of each till failure mixed in with my bag work..I just wanted to keep my heart rate up thru the 45 minute.

Diet today was pretty much dead on.
maybe ate a couple too many peanuts.

6:00 hot lemon water
7:00 3 egg whites on w/w flatbread ff mayo
9:30 banana
10:00 small hand of peanuts
11:30 1/2 cup of baby carrots
1:00 large salad 1 chicken breast
3:00 peach and a low carb vanilla yogart
4:30 a serving of pretzels
6:30 tilapia , roasted tomatoes, spinach salad light newmans.
