LOL! Gotta love 'fitness' freak moms!

It's raining! Bleck! I wanted to work in my gardens today. I'm bringing plants from my gardens down to my friends at the bus company. I started bringing them the overflow from my spring gardens back when I was working with them. I still like to go visit with them from time to time. Then I'm going to bring some plants to my friend that is battling cancer. She had her surgery about a week and a half ago. She's going through chemo now.

Breakfast: Pancakes with the girls.

Lunch: Chicken breast cutlet & brown rice with tomato garlic sauce.

*It's killing me not to workout today! Back & biceps tomorrow.

Supper: Turkey, spinach, parmesean 'impossible' pie with corn and carrots, green and yellow string beans on the side.

**I feel like today was a waste. No lifting. Too rainy to get outside. My mid-week 'rests' can really drive me nuts!

It's looking like it's going to be nice today. Made the kids 'oven pancakes' with blueberry topping for breakfast. I have errands to run this morning. Then later today is back and biceps time. "Chele is stressing. I hope this doesn't mean my day is going to end up hi-jacked again.

Breakfast: 'Oven pancake' with blueberry topping and my coffee.

Lunch: Subway sub with turkey, swiss, lettuce, black olives and honeymustard.
Had the 'meal' with Harvest cheddar chips and ice tea. The tea was a bit too sweet. I'm not used to that!

**After my errands I....Went shopping! (Whoa! This is getting to be a habit!) Bought three more sport tops. One is a 'compression' tank, one is a regular sport tank, the other a normal sport crop top. All of them made with the new microfibers that are supposed to wick sweat away from your skin. The binding/hems seem okay. We'll see how these all stand up to my hikes. Also found nylon board shorts that will be perfect for hiking in the men's department. In my size! Woot! I'm down that inch! Now to finish getting these last few pounds off. And one last clothing item: A black halter style swim top to swap out with my tankini top when I'm working in the yard. Now I can tan up the 'white' areas on my back and shoulders to protect against severe burns on my hikes.

Snack: Protein bar.

Back & Biceps:
Back:
Reverse lat pulldowns 3 sets - 4 reps*
CG/RG lat pulldowns 3 sets - 4 reps*
BB bentover rows 3 sets - 4 reps
*Went up!
Biceps:
EZ Bar reverse curls 3 sets - 4 reps*
EZ bar curls 3 sets - 4 reps*
DB hammer curls 3 sets - 4 reps**
*Went up!
**Should have gone up. Not enough plates in the sizes I needed.

Post-w/o shake: Out of my whey have to try and find some this weekend.

Karissa just left to go trail running. She has decided that powerwalking is too boring. (Now she understands why Mrs J and I took up hiking!) So she has taken up running/trail running. I'm so proud of my kids. All three of them and my DIL keep in shape.

Snack: White seedless grapes

Recumbent bike: 20 minutes - level 8 (Highest)
*I was bored and waiting for laundry to finish. Gotta do more cardio to get that last few pounds off. Danced for a half hour too come to think of it.
(Speaking of dancing...Michele and I have decided to go see Montgomery Gentry at Six Flags this coming summer. And we're going to see Trace Adkins at Indian Ranch also. Ladies day out. I haven't been to outdoor concerts in ages. I'm so looking forward to this. More motivation to get these last few pounds off!)

Supper: Pork loin chop, sweet potato and petite peas.

Survivor Night with Michele and the girls! Then I'll finish packing my pack for tomorrow when I get home. I'm so wired about tomorrow's hike!

Whoa! There's frost on my Blazer windows. Today is my long hike day. Mrs J and I are heading north to Wendell State Park today. Back to do another section of the Metacomet-Monadnock Trail. Looks like I'm going to have to pack a change of clothes again. Oh well.

AM shake: Strawberry egg protein, banana and yogurt.

Breakfast: Pancakes with blueberry topping.

Long Hike Day:
Ruggles Pond Loop and a section of the Metacomet-Monadnock Trail in Wendell State Forest. 7 miles total.

It stayed cool all day. I didn't have to change into my hiking shorts and actually kept my white hiking overshirt on until well after noon. We had a blast! Tons of bog and stream crossings. The wild dogwood was in bloom and we found a couple rare trilliums in bloom and photographed them. The area was gorgeous. We had lunch at the Wendell shelter on the MM Trail. What a great view over the small river we were following.

The park rangers were kind enough to let us in the gates to access our trails. We hadn't realized that the Wendell SP was between seasons. They were busy getting the pond/pavillion area ready for opening. One other group hiked the Ruggles Pond loop today after us. We found all 5 of the letterboxes we were after. One was particularly difficult and had not been found since 2003!

On our way out we stopped at the headquaters to thank Steve and Brian for letting us into park and also to let them know we were off the MM Trail. (We had left our hiking itinerary with them.) We left the clues to the five letterboxes with the rangers so they can run off copies for other hikers/letterboxers. We chatted with them for a while and they told us about the MM Trail volunteer trail clearing/maintenance day on May 14. We've been wanting to volunteer on some of the trails we've been on. Now is our chance. We have decided to go back to Wendell SP and help out. A great day all around.

Mrs J got a pic of me at lunch reading the Wendell Shelter log book:

Overcast and cool today. Mrs J and I are heading down to Manchester, CT to the EMS store. 20% off everthing yesterday and today. I'm hoping to finally get a pair of hiking pants, the type that zip off around the knee to become shorts. A pair of those would have been great yesterday. Although my camo's were fine. I tightened up the ties at the ankle and rolled them for all the water crossings yesterday. And then when it finally did warm up I kept them rolled. I slept like a rock last night after my shower. That's the only thing that will suck when we start doing overnights. No hot shower after a day of hiking.

Breakfast: Wheat pancakes with honey.

Mrs J and I now have nylon hiking pants that zip-off! Black for me...so they don't clash with all my tops. Also bought a new lighter weight hat as well as my camelback reservoir for my pack. A map of Mt Greylock and a few other things. Of course I saw a hundred or so other things I want. But I can wait.
*I am a bit concerned about me losing so much weight and still in the process of losing. I can't go too much smaller in men's sizes and still have the leg length I need. The 'longs' I bought today just fit me. But they are a bit baggier than I wanted. I checked the smallest womens sizes and they don't have near the length I need. All the 'longs' were 'capri' length on me. I am seriously thinking I may need to have my hiking pants made to order by one of the local seamstresses at the rate I'm going.

We splurged on a Starbucks coffee and snack instead of a regular lunch.

Misty rainy day. Joe and I left early to get the shopping done. I made sure he bought is fishing license today also. He's off fishing and I have the house to myself as I get some writing done.

Breakfast:
Breakfast 'cereal' bar.
*We were out of most of the stuff I normally eat.

Lunch: Turkey and provolone with lettuce and honeymustard on a tortilla wrap.

Pre-w/o shake: None, have to get out to Auburn and pick up my Evopro.

Shoulders and Legs:
Shoulders:
DB presses 3 sets - 6 reps
DB 'side-scratchers' ala Vplayer in replacement of laterals. 3 sets - 6 reps.
*Wow! Fantastic, I could even do them with 5 pounds more than I could do with laterals. None of the pain I was getting with laterals, but boy o' boy I can tell they worked those delts.
DB upright rows 3 sets - 6 reps
DB shrugs 3 sets - 5 reps
Legs:
DB lunges 3 sets - 6 reps
Ham curls 3 sets - 6 reps
Leg extensions 3 sets - 6 reps
Calves:
Bodyweight calf raises 1 set - 30 reps

Post-w/o shake: Vanilla 100% whey in gatorade

Snack: Seedless white grapes.

Supper: Breaded, baked haddock fillets, saffron rice and sugar snap peas.

*I took a bit of break from my writing this afternoon and was going through some of my pic folders. I found a pic from ealier this winter of me with my 'girls'. I talk about them alot since they are such a big part of my life. Here we are on one of our Survivor nights:

Whoa! Frost on my truck windows again today! The wild turkey's were making a racket this morning down back. Off to take care of the girls and then I'm going to try and catch Fran for coffee and breakfast at the Mug & Muffin.
Today is chest and triceps day. My fav.

Breakfast: Pancakes with syrup.
*Didn't get to go out with Fran. The younger two girls weren't feeling well today. I stayed with them all day.

Lunch: Ramen chicken noodle soup and PB & J sandwhich.

Supper: Steak, corn and broccoli with my chai.

Chest & Triceps:
Chest:
Decline DB press 3 sets - 4 reps
Decline DB flyes 3 sets - 4 reps
Vertical machine press 3 sets - 4 reps
*I felt like I could 6 on all of these, but I felt that dayumed 'pinch' in my left delt. I decided not to push it since it seems to be getting better.
Triceps:
Rope presses 3 sets- 4 reps
Lying to opposite shoulder DB tri-press 3 sets - 4 reps
DB kickbacks 3 sets - 4 reps

Time to get my pack loaded for tomorrow's hike. I'm was thinking of using my daypack...but I really want to try out my new water reservoir...decisions, decisions, decisions!

Thanks Liana and Ron. The girls mom and I have been friends for a little over 20 years. My older kids used to babysit the oldest two. I adore the girls. I've helped watch them all since the diaper days. Their mom and I do a lot together with them. They are terrific kids. Even on the days they test auntie's limits to the max.

Short hike day! The frost was not as bad today on my truck. So I threw a pair of hiking shorts in my pack along with my hiking sandals. Put my new water reservoir in my pack today also.

AM shake: Opps! Forgot it!
*Left the house early.

Breakfast: Blueberry pancakes.
*Got to Michele's early so she and her oldest could have some too before they left for school.

Musings from the hike:
It stayed cool today. I found out that my new socks certainly do dry faster. I got one foot soaked sliding off a rock into a bog. When we took our lunch break I realized the sock was dry. Very cool.

Lunch: Turkey, provolone, lettuce and honeymustard on a tomato-basil flat-out. Blueberry cereal bar, cheese crackers, gatorade and trail mix.

My water reservoir worked great, but I remember that I had wanted to get the sleeve to keep the water cool on hot days. So I'll have to order that online. My 'racer-back' sport tank was comfortable and didn't bind under my backpack straps. But it didn't really get hot enough to find out if it will cause me to get welts or if the fabric wicks correctly. But heck, at least I know it's fine otherwise.

The temps dropped to about 40 degrees at one point. My hands went blue for a bit due to my Reynauds. That is such a PITA. I didn't pull out my 'thermasilk' gloves. We were heading uphill at that point and I knew the climb would 'warm' my hands. My right shoulder was bothering me. Could have been related to my pack, or due to doing shoulders and chest without a one day break between them like I normally have. No biggie.

We were out from 11 to 4, no idea about the mileage though. Discovered that one letterbox was inaccessible, one probably taken out by a flood and the log books on all but the last box soaked. Not a place I'll plan on taking the girls. I am going to try and locate the placer of the 7 box series to let them know the series is in need of attention. Other than that Mrs J and I decided that the area we were in was a good place for short hike days and we plan to go back on a sunnier day so I can photograph some of the beautiful wild stone walls we found.

Snack: Wheat crackers and cheese and a vanilla pudding cup.

Supper: Porkloin chop, saffron rice and spinach.

Cool and overcast today. I have to catch up on the housework today and get some writing done. I need to get more books listed soon also, and get more done on the projects on my board. (Art) Then there's always the garden/yard work. My grain delivery is due today too come to think of it! Never a dull moment for me! This afternoon I'm joining Michele and the girls to watch her oldest's home game. She's turning into quite the pitcher.

Breakfast: Apple cinnamon pancakes.

AM shake: Strawberry egg protein and yogurt.

Went to visit my mom this morning. Got dragged out into the woods to a local brook to photograph some rare wildflowers for her. (Not that it takes much prompting to get me in the woods! ) Then my cousin Lisa dropped by, so I stayed a little longer to visit. I did manage to get some house work done today. Still have to do my back and bi's. That looks like it's going to have to wait until this evening. Since I have to trek back out to run some errands before I go pick up Michele and the girls.

Lunch:
Turkey, parmesean and cheese 'impossible pie.

Snack: cheese crackers & chocolate-peanut butter on a slice of whole wheat.
*I'm always soooo hungry the day after my hikes! When I get home at night from them too come to think of it!

My grain delivery arrived...carried all that to the bins. (250#/5-50# bags.)

Snack: 2 tbsp of peanut butter & chai tea.

Supper: Breaded baked haddock fillets.
*That's it. I had Joe put in supper since I was at the game. All he cooked was the fish! *Sigh...and he wonders why I pitch fits about his diet.
I've got to make myself some veggies shortly. I'm exhausted today. My allergies have finally decided to make an appearance.

Back and Biceps
:
Back:
Reverse lat pulldowns 3 sets - 4 reps
CGReverse lat pulldowns 3 sets - 4 reps
Seated bentover db rows 3 sets - 4 reps
Biceps:
Alter. DB curls 3 sets - 4 reps
Alter hammer curls 3 sets - 4 reps
DB concentration curls 3 sets - 4 reps

Post-w/o shake: None! I forgot I was out of whey.
*Off to order it shortly.

Sunny day today. Errand day.

Breakfast: Berry muffins
*I'm saving the last scoop of my egg protein for Friday before my hike. Ordered my proteins last night. (Egg, Evopro and whey.)

Got my errands run after bringing Michele into school. Bought a new trail watch with a nylonweb band. Vinyl makes me get welts and I ruin leather in the summer. Also bought myself a new straw cowboy hat for the summer, my old one is a bit worn out after years of service.
On a crankier note. I'm still in a bit of a rage that I arrived at 'Chele's to find her bf being abusive verbally to her. I'm still furious that he threatened to hit her. I had all I could do not to throw his ragedy backside over the railing from her second story apartment. (I didn't want the girls to see Auntie in a rage.) I hate alcoholic abusers with a passion. If I ever end up in jail it will be because I tap-danced on some moron abuser's face.

Lunch: Chicken breast cutlet on whole wheat with tomato-garlic and shredded cheddar toasted.

Snack: 2 tbsp of 'dark chocolate' peanut butter.

Supper: Breaded, baked chicken 'tenders', rice pilaf and green & yellow bean and baby carrot mix.

*I've finally come down off the ceiling, but my shoulders/traps are killing me from being so angry today. I'll rub in some Arnica gel before I crash and hope they are fine in the AM or I'll be swaping out packs for the day.

Woot! Hike day! Heading up to Shutesbury. A bit cool and cloudy.

AM shake: Strawberry egg protein and yogurt.
+AM supps

Breakfast: Shedded wheat with rice milk.

Hike:
Out of gate 16 at the Quabbin and in part of the state forest off Cooleyville Rd.(The old Boston Post Road.) Both in Shutesbury, MA.

We had a great hike. I started off in my sandals and wore my nylon hiking pants that zip-off at the legs to become shorts. It stayed cool enough today that we stayed in long pants. I never needed to swap out to shoes. At one point we did take off our longsleeve overshirts for a couple hours, but the wind picked up since that Northeaster is coming in and we needed to dig them back out of our packs. Mrs J swapped to her hiking sandals on our return trip to my truck on the second half of our hike.

Snack: Trail mix and an apple.

Found 2, possibly 3 foundation sites on our Quabbin hike. One with the remains of what must have been a barn foundation. The bricks from the chimney at one house were scattered around the former house site. We climbed along and explored a couple rather interesting wild stone walls also. The hike down to the Quabbin Reservoir shore was enjoyable. No sign of the moose today. We'll find them one of these times I'm sure.

Lunch: Turkey and shredded cheddar with honeymustard in a tortilla wrap.
Crackers with cheddar, crackers with chocolate peanut butter. Vanilla Evopro in gatorade.

We finished our Quabbin hike, (Found our letterbox.) and headed to the area our next letterbox hike for the day was. (A series of 5 letterboxes.) We ran into two gentlemen with metal detectors searching along the old Boston Post Road that we were hiking, they were interested in finding old foundation sites. We told them about the sites we found earlier at Gate 16. They were doing pretty well. They had a nice collection of old cans and bottles for their efforts of the day when we headed back to my truck.

I found a couple places that would be good fishing spots for Joe. Cheryl and I want to go back and do more Quabbin hikes. We really enjoy the area. It looks like Quabbin is at capacity with all the rain we've been having. Even though I went into the hike with sore shoulders I did fine with my pack today.

Supper: Chicken & pork Jambalaya, petite green string beans and my chai tea.

As long as you're not an abusive drinker you are fine! She does need to throw him out. I hope she does it before something happens in front of the girls that she'll regret.

Anyhow...the peanut butter in question is actually called "Dark Chocolate Dreams." It's an all natural peanut butter made by Peanut Butter & Co., a little sandwhich shop in Greenwich Village. My local market has been carrying it and you can find it online at: www.ilovepeanutbutter.com

The stuff is heavenly!
