my trainer did a cool compilation of shots he's taken of me since July 05 when I'm committed myself to really making a change. am now at 183lbs, heaviest I've ever been, in middle of a bulk that I may take to 190 if i can keep the bodyfat in check. would appreciate comments/thoughts, etc.

In 2.5 years, he gained around 25lbs of LBM.. 10lbs a year.. How much muscle do you think people could gain a year? 30-50? Even Layne Norton or Derek Charlebois or other scivation bbers have trouble gaining more than 10lbs of muscle every year. lol So I think Mikey K did a good job.

I looked at his pics and in 2.5 yrs I dont see much more muscle mass than the original pics. PERIOD! Thats no disrespect to anybody, thats my critique. Thats the problem with people on these boards. Everyone likes to candy coat sh!t, "Looking good bro" or "You've got a good base". I just spoke what I felt, an honest critique which was exactly what he asked for . With that being said, he appears to be a bit older than most of you/us, so 10lbs per year while losing approx 6lbs of fat isn't terrible. Sure, people put 20-40lbs on in their first 18 months of training and if a newb came to me, I'd expect the upper part of that range, but I will say that I don't think he wasted his time at all. As I mentioned, I don't see a lot of "thickness" but that could very well be because of the angle of the picture. Half these clowns on this board haven't made continual progress at all (while they hand out information from Google and recycle other sh!t from other boards), and few of them are much further than were they were a year or two years ago, so be proud of your progression for sure. If it were me, I would say now is the time for you to increase your calories, reduce meal frequency (I'm assuming you eat 6-7x per day), and focus on heavy benching, deadlifting and squatting to really explode. Put 20lbs of LBM on in 2008. |

That was 1998 And then after 7 years off (started again in 2005), I went from 195 to 237 in 1.5 years!! So now that your facts are straight, go ahead and re-think your response!!!! |

Not to be a d*ck, but who cares either way. He asked for opinions and everyone has a right to one, right or wrong.
Large gains like some can get, are not going to work the same for everyone. I don't know his genetics and everything involved. His gains are coming. Some gain at different speeds and sometimes they are better quality gains. He needs to bulk more in my opinion to see quicker gains, but I give him props for what he's gained in 2.5 years. He definitely made some nice gains. Let's not ruin his thread. Both said the peace. Let's help the dude out and or learn from him. |

Those are my basic thoughts Boyd, you just said it alot better than I did. I dont knock his progression at all as I can see it, but for myself I would "prefer" more thickness just like you stated. What I didnt account for and I will admit was his age, I am sure you are in your late 40's to early 50's right Mikey? With that taken into account, I realize the change is more impressive than at half that age. Sorry to clutter up your thread Mikey |

The links wont open for me so I can only judge from these two pics. Now from what I can see I think you look a lot better, your arms definitely look a lot bigger, delts are bigger with much better development, and your traps look larger. It's better progress in 2.5 years than I see from most people on forums. I don't know what your goals are but I think you are a definite improvement on your first pic, you gained mass and dropped bf well done.

What nobody saw is his legs blew up from 11inches to 28 inches and his ass went from a whopping 60, down to 42.

wow, i go away for a couple days, come back and a war started.
ok--some responses. i'm 42(43 next month), and prematurely gray, but jeez, i'm not 50 yet i'm 5'8. If i was gonna photoshop, i think i would've tried to fake a lot more growth than this. As far as making greater gains than i have--i can honestly say that I could not be much more dedicated, work harder, eat more, or be more consistent with supplements...and still have a full time job and a family. I have one day off a week, get in 4-5 workout/week (incuding 2 workouts with my trainer, the rest at home) and run 1-2 week when not trying to cut. I think my genetics are actually fairly good with putting on muscle--one limiting factor is that i cannot do heavy deadlifts or squats, due to a hearniated disc, but have been working to bring the weights i do on those movements up. So--thanks for the good words, and the healthy debate here. I know i can progress further, and I will. - mike |

To clear stuff up; i'm 42 (43 next month), and i'm 5'8. I'm prematurely gray--so maybe that makes me read a bit older. And...if I was gonna photoshop, i'd make myself look at lot better than this. I do appreciate all of the feedback--I feel pretty good about what i've accomplished, and know that within the limits of a full time job and a family that I could not be more dedicated. I eat right and a lot, take only one rest day a week, and do 1-2 days of cardio, with the rest working out. I'm limited by a herniated disc unfortunately that has kept me from doing deadlifts till this year-slowly working up doing heavier weights but they pale in comparison to my other lifts (eg my max flat bench unassisted is 315, but i'm only doing 145lbs deadlifts, and very carefully at that). So--thanks again. I've attached a back progression shot my trainer just sent me today. I am sure some of you will see the bald spot on the crown of my head--I'm pointing it out so the rest of you don't have to Mike |
