On a female? absolutely. 10-12% for a female is like to 6-8% for a male which is very lean.

mitchcumstein: I am cursed (or others think blessed) with my ghetto booty. I hate it. I don't care if it's mostly muscle (which I've been told it is) or fat, I don't like it. Even at 86 lbs it was still there. It won't leave. It's genetic and I don't think I'm going to change it, unfortunately.

LiLSaVaGe: The competition I have chosen meets my needs, both physical and psychological. I do not have to train as often as I would if it was a larger competition, and since I'm in college that's a very good thing. They also promote a healthy feminine appearance. I don't have to overly restrict my diet or do cardio until I pass out to drop body fat. I would not win if I did that. That is GREAT because the last thing I need is to slip back into the anorexia.

I'm not doing the contest to make it big some day, I'm doing it to stay healthy and to have a goal to work towards. While I don't think I have a chance of doing well in the fitness category, the figure category is another story. I just want to have fun and be healthy. How big the competition is doesn't come into play in my mind.

I have worked for almost two years to get my body fat percent up to where it is now. Recovering from anorexia makes that difficult. I use the classifications to help me figure out where I need to be. I will not allow myself to become unhealthy for a contest. Being hospitalized for 5 weeks has made me realize that nothing is worth doing that to my health again.

Behemouth: Thanks

Thanks for all the comments everyone. They've been helpful. One thing I learned about taking pictures is not to take them directly after that time of the month.

As for appearance, I'm working on building my upper body up to match my lower body. My upper body is an extra small while my lower body is a medium according to most size charts. A fractured vertebrae and years of dance and baton are probably to blame, espeically the former.

I've tried for years to make my lower body smaller, but I just can't seem to do it. That leaves me with trying to make my upper body larger. We'll see how that works out. It's be great to look more proportional!!

I think youre right about it being genetic. some ppl store it in the butt, some in the thighs, some in the stomach. Anyhow, i guess that puts you in a strange position if you wanna pursue the fitness thing. One the one hand youre gonna have to diet but on the other hand given your past history with anorexia that might be potentially risky. thats for you to figure out i guess but it can be done, im sure of it.

I don't think the position I'm in is all that weird. The competition I'm going to isn't looking for the same body type as most of your big name competitions. That is one of its biggest draws for me. I don't have to work to get myself super lean as that isn't what they are looking for.
