Default Chuck Norris

A little background on me for those who don't know me...

Since my huge training log with all of my articles was deleted a few months ago, it hasn't been too inspiring to start from scratch because in reality, I don't like keeping these things. Why? Well, for the most part, my training is purely instinctive. I'm obsessed with being stronger and doing things heavier, so pushing myself isn't an issue. I also know when I need to scale it down, so deloading isn't a problem either.

The advice I typically give out isn't straight from what I do. I think too many people believe that what they do is the only way and that's that. I like to stay interested so I may do DC at times, may train like a powerlifter for months, or I may just go all out, balls to the wall with volume for a bit. I've created so many training programs for different types of people with different goals that it's always fun to experiment on myself.

Right now, it's the best of all worlds. I'm finally in a position in my life where I can enjoy myself a lot more. Don't take that as me taking the foot off of the gas, because I'm not. That article on CNN/Money was just the beginning. I promised myself on my birthday (last Friday, Mar 16) that I would be on the cover of Forbes before I turned 33 (2 years) and I believe that I will. People that know me know that I'm one of the most motivated people ever - I feel that it is my destiny to be a success in whatever it is that I choose to do, whether it is my own fitness, business or as a father, which I take more serious than the other things.

My fitness goals? Right now, they are simple - I am simultaneously concerned with gaining muscle and losing fat. Since I've had things figured out about myself over the last few years, I've been pretty good at doing it. Unless you're going to jump on stage, I don't believe that total dedication to one goal is completely necessary, and I believe that people can make great progress in both areas without going overboard one way or another. I do believe that to get to this point takes a few years of experience and you must really know your body. Of course, someone that is just beginning is going to have this phenomenon with no matter what they do, but once they get over the initial shock of beginning, they'll often struggle to find what works.

As you can tell, sometimes I get a bit wordy when it may not always be necessary. I'll admit that I use typing and talking as therapy and a way to make me think about more things.

If you're wondering why I'm doing something, please ask - as I don't do things blindly. My reputation as being a hot-head may be somewhat accurate, but those who know me know that I usually react when I'm provoked. I love an intelligent discussion and if someone isn't acting like an idiot, than I'll be more than respectful and will bend over backwards to help that person. If they're being narrow-minded, than yeah, that arrogant prick will probably come out.

It never fails that someone will ask, so I'll list my daily supp routine. Look, I don't think everyone needs to take everything all of the time. I can afford it, some people may or may not be able to and they may not need it. I purchased a biophotonic scanner for my training business to keep an eye on my nutrient and vitamin intake, so I have at least a clue what works for me.

I take 3 Digestive Enzymes before every single meal, and take 5-10g of BCAA between every meal.

AM
AST 400 Multi
Chromium Pic
1g Vit C
400 IU Vit E
B Complex
L Carnitine + CoQ10

Mid morning snack I throw in 2g of Sesamin

Pre-workout
2g Ornithine
5g Argininne
2g Lysine
1g Vit C
400 IU Vit E
3g creatine

Post-workout
Calcium/Magnesium Zinc
3g creatine
Vitamin B Complex
1g c
400IU e
Carnitine + CoQ10

2g of Sesamin and a multi with my 4:30p meal

PreBed
Tryptophan
Melatonin
5g Arginine
3g Ornithine
3g Lysine
Calcium/Magnesium/Zinc
Flax Oil
Carnitine + CoQ10

I eat more than most people do, but it's all based on timing. I'll give a few days worth of breakdown later on, but again, this is what I do, not what I'd necessarily recommend.

Alright, I'm going to go do legs. As I mentioned in another thread, I jammed my knee in Cabo when a dumbass came through the net and caught me hyperextended, so I have no idea how it will feel. If I can't destroy my quads, I think I have some heavy SLDLs in me. If one of my trainers is working, I'll have them film a heavy set of something.

Thanks Theara. I have clients that have been on/in major magazines (Oxygen, Playboy, SI, etc) in the last couple of months so I figure I need to stay afloat with them.

Alright, I'm about to warm up. Had to finish my pre-workout caffeine (aka Monster Low Carb)... Let's see what the knee has in store. I'm going to do some sick ass SLDLs today, so I may grab someone off the street to film it.

LOL

Royce (and everyone),

I'll gladly assist anyway I can. I don't think my words are the gospel or anything, but I'm pretty sure I'm somewhat qualified to help out.

A'ight, let the beating begin. I'll update in a bit.

Damn, hope I don't let anyone down.

I did the squats - I was going to superset squatting and leg press, but forget that. My knee just doesn't feel stable enough right now. It felt ok when I wrapped it, and I went up to 365 and did 4 sets of 5. NO where near failure of course, just wanted to put some pressure on the legs. I worked with 4 distinct feet placings and nothing felt terrible once the weight was being lowered. It only hurt when I first got under it. At least I can tell it isn't grinding, so that's a good sign.

I'm doing some leg pressing now. 1000lbs (I actually put 2 100lb db's on top lol - my small studio isn't really equipped for the WPO). These do not bother my knee whatsoever, but I'm only doing sets of 6-8. Wish I had someone to record these, because although it isn't failure weight, I do turn beat red pushing it up...

Next is some SLDL, Good mornings, GHRs, and I'll finish off with some calves... Of everything on that list, the GHRs are punking me right now - I'm not excited about them (I'll hold some weight doing them).

I'm just wondering what digestive enzymes you get? Because recently I've been piling down the protein (70+ grams per meal) and my stomach hasn't really liked it thus far. I did buy some before but they were a little expensive for only like 3-4 weeks worth.

I take NOW nutrition's Super Enzymes. I also down about 60g of supplemental fiber per day, so that doesn't hurt digestion either.

Quick movie of me doing calves - I'm warming up with 450 before I go DC:
http://the-personal-trainer.com/Other/calves.mov

This is cheezy as hell but it's the only thing I can film myself doing... I didn't want to waste too much bandwidth, so I only recorded a couple of reps... I'm fortunate enough to have tiny ankles (9" just above the bone) and big calves (18 1/2" at the biggest part). The ankles make my calves look pretty enormous in a standing position.

Properly? You didn't see the pics of me and your mum? Those were hot!

I didn't realize there was a "proper" protocol for starting a log... Feel free to stop by 16613 Huebner Road, SATX and I'll let you take all the pics of me you want...

I'll throw plenty of vids up as I have people around to take them - give you plenty of material to have a special moment with while you fantasize about me...

I'll be wrapping up this wko in a moment and I'll include some of today's numbers...

Yeow dawg! I want to take some pics of it soon since the ones on my site are outdated (I've changed, added, and modified a lot of stuff).

The lighting doesn't go well in pics and I don't know why. They look good on my comp but everyone says they're dark and when I brighten them they say they're too bright. lol

I have an announcement about studio #2, but I'm going to hold off on that for a few weeks since it's going to be in a major magazine article. I was lucky enough to be interviewed by a pretty well-known financial mag and once the article is edited and approved, I'll talk more about that. I'm not shying away from the exposure - any publicity is good in business, and the CNN/Money Magazine article opened a ton of doors.

If the new place lives up to half of my expectations, it'll be absolutely incredible. My first place has turned out to be nothing short of perfect, and it actually scared me how well everything fell into place. I expected something to be screwed up, but everything went as smoothly as possible.

A'ight, session terminated...

I warmed up forever on the squats and ended up going to 365, as I mentioned and worked there kind of light.

365x5x4

Nothing special, just testing the knee.

Leg Press
Warmed up and worked up to 1klbs.

1000x8x4
1000x6x2

These were fairly slow and as deep as I could possibly go (read: bottomed the machine out).

SLDL
worked up, of course
315x15
365x10x3
405x8x2

I teased with the idea of going to 445 or so, but refrained... I was wobbly...

I decided against the Good AMs.

GHR, the real thing
The SLDL took it out of me - that week with the flu and Mexico didn't help either any...
0x15
held a 25x15x2, 25x10x2

90 degree hypers holding a 45lb plate
45x15x4

Leg Press calves
I messed around on here between sets, but ended up going to 500lbs for some DC sets:

DC style
500x8x3

Then I just did up and down sets, controlled
600x10x5

Good Girl/Bad Girls (cables)
I just burned out with 70lbs for 2 sets. It's amazing how the lower back starts tightening up (psoas connects the hip flexors to the muscles in the lower back). This seat now feels like hell on my lower back.

Now I'm downing my traditional post-workout complex + simples with whey and casein. Had my bcaas. I'll eat another real meal in 30 minutes.
