I'm not sure where these children are getting the idea that "fit or muscular" means seeing some abs. I totally agree that 90% of the kids here weight a whopping 160 lbs and want to cut. Is it their idols from movies, TV, music..hell I don't know.

But as I tell my partner

Quite your whinning and lift.

Well there is some corelation between being FIT and BF levels. Fit is in good physical condition and good health. I think doctors would agree that your not in good health if your BF are not within acceptable ranges.

well actually fitness refers to having the energy to be able to fulfill your normal every day actives (as i remember from my physio).

last year i was playing rugby league at 103kg (226.6lb) while playing anywhere from 40-80mins for that game, and then playing another game straight after, which was another 80mins. my bf was around 18%-22%. bf and fitness are not direct correlations.

on the flip side to that, i know ppl who were think, low bf and yet were very unfit.

I have to disagree Warrior. High body fat levels puts you at a higher risk of many health problems. Coronary Heart Disease, Diabetes, some cancers, gallstones, etc. Regardless if you can play a couple games of 80 minutes each higher body fat levels makes you a health risk. No way around that.
BF itself is not a measure of fitness however. The surgeon general of the US defines physical fitness as a state of well-being with low risk of premature health problems and energy to participate in a variety of physical activities. Its widely agreed that physical fitness includes morphological fitness, bone strength, muscular fitness, flexibility, motor fitness, cardiovascular condition, and metabolic fitness.

I could give a damn what the Surgeon General says, however, the definition of the term "Fitness" is very individual and means something different to everyone.

I didn't say that anyone should be running around fat. That's against everything I believe. My post simply attacked people that have absolutely NO muscle and they want to cut. They have no basal metabolic rate to speak of, they aren't going to see any definition and they're going to constantly complain how they are hard gainers.

CUT is the lack of bodyfat to demonstate muscle mass. No, if you don't have muscle, you don't get cut. You only get skinny.

Skinny is scrawny. Lean can be massive - Ronnie Coleman is lean at the O and he's over 280 or whatever. There is a huge difference.

So whats the cut off between skinny and cut? If I got down to 8% bf would I be scrawny or cut?

Ahh f*ck, why does everyone have to make stuff about numbers?

IMO, I think if your arms are less than 1/2 your waste size, then it's skinny. Hell, I don't know. How about at least a 12-15" difference between your chest/back and waist? Legs have to be within 4-6" of your waste size?

I think the main point is this. It isnt really impressive for someone to weigh 140 lbs and have abs, or be vascular, or look cut. More than likely, they lift weights occasionally, can maybe bench a little more than their body weight....but basically, they just cut the fat. It didnt involved alot of lifting, and they arent particularly strong, rather, just low BF. But when you have someone who gets abs to appear, and start looking cut at around 200 lbs, then there you instantly have 60 extra pounds of LBM...that is what is impressive. Anyone who is that light, and wants to cut, basically just wants their unshaped body to look better, not a body that has been built through time and effort.

Can someone please explain to me why every guy here that is between 5'6" and 5'10" and weighs between 160 and 175 wants to "CUT"? I think my opinion is quite simple - you gotta have something to cut before you can go getting ripped. SKINNY and PEELED are two different things, yet it seems so many people are in search of the former and not the latter. When in reality, there is nothing impressive about abs accompanied by sub 16" arms (and usually a pair of 22" legs to go along with them)...

Get some LBM. LBM = Higher Resting Metabolic Rate and will make your cut so much easier. Cutting from NOTHING will lead to a metabolism nightmare.

Of course, size is relative to a lot of things, but if your arm fits in that free blood pressure checker at Wal Mart, think about gaining some LBM before you try to get cut. That doesn't mean to just pile on the fat and eat whatever is in sight; if you're doing that at anytime, step out of my journal, because you don't have a f*cking clue about what you're doing anyway and you obviously aren't my target audience (you're a f*cking idiot instead).

I can't begin to tell people that are just starting out how important it is to build that base of strength and good muscle mass. Too many people don't want to pay their dues and put forth the effort, and when they're 30, 35, or 40 years old and they still have no appreciable muscle mass, they do something drastic to try to get big. When you're young, there is NO easier time to gain good size, and you 18-25 year olds that aren't taking advantage of that are pissing a valuable time of your life away, because the older you get, the harder it will become due to diminishing hormones and other physical tolls that many will pay.

LOL - so, the next time I open a pic thread and some 155lb 5'9" guy is talking about going on a cut before his "clean bulk" I am putting him on my blacklist and will never offer that individual advice again. Actually, I'll probably take every opportunity to ridicule that individual.
It's funny cause I've always felt the same as you but I never really mentioned it cause it was just one of those things you roll your eyes to. I don't think I'm ever going to have to go on a cut (or lower my bf%) in my life. That's just retarded. I'm on a life time bulk Props on the thoughts man. I understand where you're coming from 110%.

Unless they are 5'. I agree Wayne.

Look, I'm not imposing my beliefs on anyone, this is just my opinion. I'm kind of surprised it sparked this much conversation, but I'm glad because it seems like everyone has a pretty strong opinion on it. That's cool.

I'm glad someone who is naturally lean weighed in too - When I found out DannyBoy was a PETA supporter, I thought he was crazy, but he's a cool guy.

Hey Danny, one of my clients is the new PETA spokesmodel. lol

A'ight, back to the training. Today is going to be an absolutely brutal arm day. Another pissed off workout partner is returning today. He's a pl'ing buddy of mine and although he never does an arm only day, he'll gladly do one with me. We're about the same strength, so we'll push each other to the limit.

If I can wake the hell up (and I have an XXL Monster Low Carb beside me) I'm going to take a stab at repping 405 on reverse grip. The camera is up and ready to go... Doubt I'll record anything gay like DB curls or whatever, but who knows...

Let's clear something up because bull talk irritates me to the max.

I'm not a "PETA supporter"...I don't even know what PETA stands for. I suscribed to it because they send me some interesting stuff from time to time and I like to stay updated with what's going on in general. I never said I was a vegetarian either for those people that have a hard time comprehending my my posts For the record, if I don't have to, I won't eat meat. I prefer to eat fish, beans, rice, pasta, etc. (lots of it) but if I don't have to - I don't.

Let's try to refrain from associating me with PETA just because I posted an e-mail I got from them and I said that half the people that eat meat wouldn't have the balls to kill their own dinner if they have to...all clear?

Thanks ya'll..

BTW, Boyd...you're kidding about your client right?

We had a brutal arm workout today. I wanted to die. I don't even feel like reliving it and writing about it now.

It was tough.
