Second day of some brutally intense cardio. The weather is incredible and I think it hit 88 today. I have no idea how big this hill is, but it's 1340 ft at the top and zero at the bottom. It winds and such, so I'd guess it's over 2000ft. Some parts are over 14-16% in grade, and they're near the top.
So I walked it once (up and down). Then I jogged it once (up and down). Then I walked half way and sprinted the last half. Walked back down to the half way and sprinted back up it. I repeated that somewhere between 9 and 11 times. I had 2 32oz bottles of water in my backpack (which was tied snugly to me, making it harder and hotter to run) and I drank both of them during the session. To cool off, I walked back down it taking the long trails. Carrying 240lbs is new to me, and it feels a lot different. I can tell it's harder on my knees and feet, but nothing really ached. My calves were screaming, but on a grade that steep will tear you up (especially sprinting up on your toes). Great session. Had one of my favorite rewards right after, a diet cherry limeade from Sonic. Always tasty... |

Route 44s on me, Wayne.
Alright, I feel like I've been rode wet and put away hard. Just killed myself during a back workout. Almost 3 hours with chatting here between sets. Deads I didn't want to dead a lot, so I just went to 500 even (I worked up) and did 3x3 with it. Bent Rows Wanted to do some sets here. Went to 275x8x6 sets. My back is on fire. Didn't go as heavy as last week, but my oblique is throbbing. Superset Face Pulls with rear delt flies 5 sets of this superset. The weights varied, but I used 45-55 on the rdfs. Superset Pulldowns w/Str arm pushdowns Again, weights varied, did 4 sets. Wide grip seated rows 4 sets x 200lbs x 10 reps I hate shrugs, so I just did: 225x35 I had planned on going to 50, but the last 3 exercises were done with about a minute rest between them. I just didn't have the hands left. I want to puke though. I'm thinking about going back and doing a little more rear delt work. |

Ok y'all, I had the best massage ever today. She did "cupping" on me - where they use these suction cups to suck down on your skin (to release stagnant blood) and then they move them apart to stretch your muscles and then rub it while it's stretched. It's hard to explain, but I have these huge circular hickey type marks on my back. But my back has never felt better. Of course, I went full body with the deep tissue, but she only did the cupping on my back. She definitely broke up some scar tissue that had never been broken... I'm going to sleep like a baby tonight. I did some light cardio at the park, and then I came home and slept for about 90 minutes. In another hour, I'll be down for the count. |

Got up extra early and ran the mountain in the dark. Of course, there was a rattlesnake laying out across the road and I was nearly eaten. Then, at the top, there were 3 coyotes lingering (3 that I could see and hear, there may have been 30).
Think I'll never do that again. I'd hate to run with my gun in my backpack. The daytime is fine for it. Today is totally high volume/overtraining/vanity arm day. I'm pretty straight through today, so whenever I get a bit of time, I'll knock it out. |
