Default why must friend have such an influence on you?

So I roofed all last week.

I was waking up at 6 in the morning and wasnt getting home till about 9 pm. Then it was a 25 minute shower to get clean, an hour on the tube, and 30 mins preparing my food for the next day.

No gym whatsoever.

I was forced to work in the rain one day, a leak occured, and the boss ended up spending the better half of the day yelling and screaming franticaly at everybody.

The owner is an asshole that screams non-stop and doesnt teach anybody anything, and always has his workers confused on what to do and there is always misunderstandings. He picks us up from a bus station at 7 in the morning and drives us to the houses, where I have to strip roofs and throw out old garbage shingles, and carry heavy bundles up ladders.

This is the MOST physicaly demanding job ive ever done. It destroys your back, you get scratched all over, and you're just on a slant all day breaking yourself.

My friend hooked me up with this job. After the week passed and I told everybody about this new experience they all told me its not worth it... why be a roofer when you have the opportunity to make more money doing somehting less physical, and where you can still workout and eat properly?

I felt bad for my friend because Id told him I was down to roof with him in the summer... but I told him im not down to work for/with dishonest crackheads. Everybodys arguing all day, and EVERYBODY.. I mean ALL the employees talked about how they need to find another company and how "Bob" the owner is a scheming prick that screws over everybody and screams too much, and that they cant continue living like that.

So I told my friend I wasnt gonna go back, because Id be making a commitment that I just cant let myself jump into. It would make more problems weeks down the road and id be kicking myself. Either Id hate my life with what i was doing (roofing all day, even doing OT and not getting paid for it), or Id end up leaving randomly and having my friend be all wtf man??

So I told him I cant make this commitment. He was tryign to push me to continute but I told him I just cant.

Earlier that day I read my horoscope.. it said exactly "Somebody is going to try to coax you into doing something you don't want to do. Just say no, and walk away. Not doing so will create more even complications."

Maybe if it wasnt for the horoscope Id continue roofing?

I dont know, I know that I want to work and make money, I dont mind physicaly demanding jobs, but grabbing awkward shingles off roofs climbing up and down ladders all day just isnt for me.

I am going to get my personal training certificate and try it out, give a shot at something I think I would be great at and have a love for

I feel bad today for my friend, and I know hes disappointed with me, but I just cant have that... anybody else have similar experiences?

Dude, that sounds like a terrible job best suited for brainless burnouts. You can find something MUCH better to do with your time, and probably make just as much money. Is it really worth it to stop working out, have no free time and no happiness?

Ditto. And yes, roofing will destroy your back. Permanently.

ha, one of my training partners is a roofer. I think the sun and heat up there has done major damage to his brain or it may be all the good stuff he is smokin (brainless burnout part, has a heart of gold)!

He had a bad accident 2 years ago, fell off a roof and oh well had some major surgery. I think you will have better luck with the PT stuff.

Sort of related to the topic

Back in the day (about 8-10 years ago) I used to do floor installations and I played in a basketball league twice a week and I lifted weights everyday.

I went to the doc as I was having some back pains everyday.
The doc told me that I had 3 physically demanding practices and that they all are hard on the body/bones and that I could not continue to do all 3.
I had to pick one of them and toss it out, so I chose to go work in an office.
