what a weasely piece of **** that singer is. our fallen warriors should be remembered because they served their country with honor, not because they died. you can tell that the singer never served in the military and probably didn't even kno the marine who died very well, or he would have figured it out that if someone loses their life in combat, the last thing they would want is some clown writing a "tribute song" so he can make money off knocking the war and pushing his own agenda.

No, I don't personally know anyone who has died in Iraq, but I'm at least as close to the USMC side of my unit as I am with the Navy side. I participate in every training evolution undertaken by the Marine detachment here and I'm pretty close with a lot of those guys, including the guys who have been over there and who know what it's like.

To Hathy: I'm not even going to respond to what you said because I don't really want to start a flame war in a thread like this.

Wow, I thought what i said might piss someone off...

When you join the marines, or any branch, you are saying you are willing to die. When someone tries to make money protesting the war because someone he knows dies, thats dishonorable to me. I would have made a metal song about how he went down taking 30 insurgents with him. I have many friends in the military, mostly in the marines, ive been through it all but the war with them. There is no one else I would rather have by my side in a fight to the death than many of these guys... but this song, and this guy, is a disgrace. Making a song to a friend is one thing, but to spew out how the war is wrong is another.

One of my buddies who's a Marine was the one who told me to look this up. I don't agree with him using a Marine's death to protest the war, I do feel a certain sense of empathy for the story being told in the song however, that's why I posted it.

I wasnt going to respond, but i cant help it. the glorifying of war by non-military civilians is horrendous in this day and age. Its one thing to be proud of your brothers for going over there- god knows i wouldnt. But to talk about "serving you country with honor" just doesnt apply to the Iraq war. Not a single one of those guys had to die. And there is nothing wrong with saying the war is wrong.

i am joining the usmc when i graduate college...do i not speak up until then? i keep a lot of things to myself because i can't say that i have served yet, but this guy admits that he "didnt kno the marine as well as some other people" so he was probably no more than an aquaintance. i realize that some people feel that this war is wrong, i don't see anything disrespectful about that, but i just think that this guy wrote a song about the marine for his own benefit, not the marine's.

and just because this is a very disputed war, does not mean that that serving one's country with honor does not apply

i don't see this topic going anywhere positive, so i'm done here....i just wanted to defend my position on it
