I am so distraught right now...my husband says I am a big baby, but I have a phobia about bugs and my son went on a field trip yesterday and at around 8 this evening he just started screaming and crying. I was like...what is up and had to get him to calm down to tell me what was wrong, he said his head...his head. Of course I'm thinking my son is having an aneurysm or something. He points and says something is in his hair, so I look and there it is. I just puked in my mouth thinking about it. A TICK!!! OMG...some fvcking bug trying to dig into my son's scalp. My husband is not home and my son is crying, I'm having to like hold it together to be strong for him....I have no idea what to do. So I fumble around and get a paper towel and some ice, put an ice cube on it and them pulled it out with my tweezers...(those are sooo going in the garbage...my favorite tweezers too!). Then that tick was in the tweezers with it's little legs moving. It is so disgusting...OMG... I just changed every sheet in our home. I am disgusted. I just feel sickened. I have never ever had a tick on me or ever seen one on a person. I had him take a bath last night too so I just don't get it. I inspected him and the others too.
So do you all think I need to take him to the doc? What if he get's lyme disease or something. I seriously feel so sick over this entire thing. I have a serious creepy crawely phobia and to think that some bug was crawling around on my kid...OMG, it gives me the chills. I feel guilty for not knowing or inspecting him better after his field trip, but he took a bath so I didn't even think about it. He is 7 after all and I don't wash him or anything. So is this serious or am I over-reacting. I am so traumatized and having to attempt to remain calm for my kids was no easy task! I wanted to barf, but I had to be strong. |

Chill out, your over reacting. I've pulled hundreds of ticks off of me, its no big deal. You must not have a dog, when you finally realize your dog has a tick its so full of blood that its huge.
Just pull it off and clean the bite area. It will be red and there will be a noticeable bump there for a week or too and it will be a little soar but its no big deal. Last edited by STUK ina RUT; 04-25-2007 at 06:57 PM. |

LOL, he is far from a bubble kid...I am the one with the phobia, not him.

I didn't save it. Someone told me I was supposed to save it in a container. Oh well. It was black and flat with scary legs. It didn't look like a dog tick.

I don't think she needs to that yet, it's just a slight case of deer's ticks. Right now just put some mayonaise on the exact spot where the tick was. Watch for any changes, if symptoms get worse then do what boyd said.

Your over reacting big time. I lived in a house as a kid with a big field close by my brother and I would always run through and stuff.
Wouldn't be nothing to have 3-5 ticks on you. Nothing to worry about.

Silly girl. I am the same way, grrr. I just hate bugs and Kaila is now phobic!
Last year she had 2 ticks on her on seperate occassions... One in her hair and the other on her neck. The one in her hair was just lodged to the hair, hadn't suctioned onto her scalp just yet. The other one must have just jumped onto her neck when I found it. I am constantly checking her because we have dark hair and its tough to see them. She used to kill bugs for me, now she is scared of them and won't go out until I pour bug spray all over her. Glad that you calmed down.... But the deer tick are the ones to worry about!
