boxing is hard as hell but it will set you up for life with how to fight smart and box clever. Its not as simple as throwing a few jabs to a bag.
If you want to use your legs then kickboxing is the route to go...

if your sadistic like me, and like elbows and knees thrown into the mix...go for thai boxing. It requires alot of physical endurance though.

taekwondo is not for me anymore, unfortunatley for my user name as it teaches the sport more than the art. Flashy kicking and blocking but not very practical

I agree with TKG about TKD, I got to black tag before certain circumstances permitted that I quit, and to be honest I'd of much preferred doing one of the styles of Kung Fu.

kung fu requires a lot of dedication, patience and practice before you get any where with it though.
you need to find a good school that holds classes 3 times + a week and not one of those weekend warrior classes in the local Y.

i am 6 months into brazillian/small circle jujitsu and MMA and i think ground fighting is hugely important as well as a great sport

we just got a muay thai instructor at the school so my stand up game will get better and better

if you get a chance to learn more than one art at the same time, GO FOR IT

If you mean "TKD" Skull, I think because the Art has become a bastion for learning how to spar for Olympic Competiton not for fighting or "self-defense". It is a great "sport" and good for cardio training and will make your calves sexy as hell (if you bounce a lot as some styles teach). The OP was asking about a fighting class. I practice TKD and I would not call it a fighting art at all. Muai Tai, BJJ, Aikido, Boxing, MMA, Crav Maga, all of these styles would be much better "fighting" arts compared to TKD.

do a you tube search for a TKD sparring match, a lot of hopping around and tappy tap tap.
Google thai boxing

TKD is a too commericial now and as narc mentioned, the sparring is geared to point scoring.

taekwondo - tappy tap tap.... bounce bounce bounce...no blocking, no guard
Needs some music playing in the background with all that bad white man dancing
YouTube - taekwondo sparring match men 1

muay thai
YouTube - Sanshou Vs Muay Thai Brutal fight

enough said

You have more action in the Mauy Tai clip (1:47 sec) then in the entire TKD clip (3 minutes plus!) Good find Bulk!

Last week I went to try some Taekwondo. It was fun but not very intense cardio wise. My brother who’s a black belt in this class told me it was an easy day. We mostly practice kicking.

Tonight I'm going to try Muay Tai. It seems to be more my style but Taekwondo was fun because I was with my brother and brother-in-law.
Also TaeKwonDoe is 45$ per month and Muay Tai is 65$ per month.
It’s pretty costy to kick and punch on bags.
Will see how it goes....

lol, it is more expensive but the training is 100% better... maybe they will put you through hell on your first lesson
my first lesson on MMA i had to work round 12 bags (3 mins each) finishing off on a body bag on the floor. They fasten your hands to the wall by thick elastic bands so its hard to hit the bag... try that for 6 minutes doing elbows and hammer punches

that was the warm up

then leg checks (thigh kicks with the shin)
knee work
combinations

then 5 rounds of sparring

good sh!t

Perhaps you don't "bounce" as much as we do lock!

Just an aside Skull, last night, in our TKD sparring class we sparred 5 minute rounds with a minute break. 3 rounds total. Our tournament matches are only 1:45 per round, 2 rounds w/ 30 seconds break between each round. It's no where near the type of workout that Taekwondo Guy described but it wasn't smelling flowers either! Try out all sorts of different Arts and pick one you like.

It was pretty awesome yesterday. Much better then TWD to me. The class is very cool. I can go 1,2,3 or unlimited time a week, depending on how much I pay per month. I can take whichever discipline I want and mix it up. I can go to let's say Muay Thai and Jeet Kune Do in a week. There’s a lot to choose from: Muay Thai, boxing,MMA,June Kune Do,Kali Silat. The atmosphere is very cool we where training with Old school Metallic blasting away.

The only problem once again is the price. I don't want a year contract for now and for a 4 month contract 2 day's a week it cost 80$ a month.

Will make a decision today or tomorrow I think, I just got to see if it fits into my budget.
