I had sprained ankle and my friends have it alot of times playing basketball, jumping down on our ankles, stuff like that. Yes, sometimes it doesn't swell up. The numbness? I'm not sure, i don't really remember or would define it as numbness. Unfortunately for you, fortunately for me, I haven't broken it yet, so i can't tell u what the symptoms are. But I'd think if you break something, it'd hurt a whole lot. Even if there's a slight fracture or not, just keep weights off of it and see if it gets better tomorrow. haha

if your unsure about the results from the x-rays, then get them done somewhere else and read the letter that the x-ray tech. puts in there. u dont have to know the jargon to know find out that its been 'hairline fracture on the ....." thats easy to tell.
the other thing to do for now is to ice it every 1-3hours, 20mins each time. DO NOT apply ice directly to the skin. a damp towel applied to the skin before the ice pack is applied is a good idea, also keeps its colder for longer. do this for the next 48-72hours. find a compression bandage and if u can find someone who can wrap it up for ya. its fairly easy to do, but some ways are better then others. im assuming that its an inverted sprain (ankle rolled in). if thats the case then you want the compression bandage to go from the inside to the outside. this will stop it from rolling back in, as u've got the bandage applying pressure towards the outside (the opposite to the way it was done). next thing to do would b to follow something called No H.A.R.M No Heat No Alcohol No Running No Massage heat is allowed to b applied after 48-72 hours. u want ice within the first instance just to get the swelling down, then heat to return blood and start the healing process. the numbness is of a big concern obviously. it could b either extra pressure of the swelling that is limiting the feelings, or it could other things. i dont know much of the anatomy of that area (do not know much specific anatomy in general ).gl with it! |

Oh I have pain believe me. lol Sometimes it's not so bad, other times it makes me want to scream.
My mom wants me to get xrays done somewhere else, just need to find out if it'll be covered under the worker's comp insurance since I have no insurance of my own. If it's not, she's gonna find out if one of the x-ray techs at her hospital will do it and just keep it on the down low. If not then I guess I'm f*cked. haha I already know about icing sprains and whatnot (had a ton of them in my lifetime..lol) but the swelling just doesn't seem to want to go away, which makes me think I may have a fracture in the ankle or somewhere in my foot. The swelling does go down, but not completely and not from the whole foot. And even when the swelling is down, I still have the numbness so it makes me wonder. Basically what happened was I was walking out of the trailer at work (our warehouse truck) and a break in the floorboards caught the edge of my shoe. My ankle rolled so bad that the outside of it literally touched the floorboards. Two of the guys I worked with had to help me out of the truck since I couldn't walk. I felt a click on the inside of my ankle when it happened, but I don't know if it was anything significant or not. I know when I attempt to put pressure on my ankle, most of the pain is on the inside so I'm guessing something is wrong other than a sprain. But what do I know? lol Either way, I'm on crutches and have a useless air cast (the doc told me not to wrap it) and am waiting to hear back from the insurance person about going elsewhere for xrays. Yippee. lol Thanks for the replies guys.
