Written test, take your choice of what language you want the test to be given in, and a Driving Test. Some states actually test you on the road. Others, as Maryland did, gave you a test on a course. You had to signal during your turns, parallel park, do a 3-point turn, braking, sign awareness, and all of it timed. I had a harder time with my motorcycle endorsement.

Hey Narc, I thought a road test was not required in the sunshine state?

My niece is getting her permit next year and has designated me to teach her how to drive.. Shes got 1st dibs on my car, pffft, she is crazy wanting to drive my almost 200k, VW. She just likes it cuz of the monsoon!

I am not sure about other states either, but in Jersey @ 16 permit to drive with an adult, 17 restricted license for 1 year!!!

I had a simple written test that was basically common sense. I had maneuverability test where you pulled through a set of cones and backed through them and finally a simple little spin around block to test turning, stopping distance, etc etc etc...

What do you do in England? It would have to be alot harder seeing the way you guys park.

IN California, drivers get their license at 16, but they cannot drive their vehicle with other kids under 18 as the passengers, unless they have an adult.

Drivers are already distracted enough, now you got some newbie kid driver on the road and the last thing you want is other kids in the car distracting him..

But then again, the little boogers are problably on their cell phone talking to the same people he/she would have in the car

in australia when your 16 and 9months old you can go for your 'Ls' (Learners). this is a written test, common sense/road rules etc. this allows you to drive with someone who has an 'Open' license (need to hold a license for 3years before you get 'Opens'). after 6months holding you Learners license your able to go for your P's (Provisional). With this license your unrestricted, only thing is that you only have 4 demerit points before you lose your license (i.e 2 points gone for a small speeding ticket, those points go fast). and as said before, after 3years with Provisionals you get your Opens. i think im 1year away .

Since I got my DL in Maryland I have no idea what the rules are in Fl CC. I know that when I took the test (on a brontosaurus) you took your written just to get your learners. I was 15 when I took my written test and you had to be 16 to take the Driving Test. 6 months of driving with someone 18 years old or older and then you could take the Driving test. If you passed, you could drive. No restrictions at that time.

Nowadays, many states have changed the age limit on when you can drive by yourself. Each state is different. I remember that NY used to have a sticker that people could buy that would allow any Police Officer to pull that car over if they saw the sticker and it was after a certain time of night. Kind of a neat way to keep the kiddies in check.

theory test (written) you HAVE to get over 30 out of 35 of the questions right. then you have a hazard perception test where you watch around 15 video clips each lasting around a minute and you have to click the button when you see a potentiol hazard (something which will make you slow down or change direction) theres usuaslly around 8 hazards per clip.
then you have a practical test which lasts for an hour. your alowed 15minor mistake (stalling etc..) or 1 major mistake on itys own and then you get failed.

and they are adding more **** to it in sep07..... a lot more

I didn't get my license till I was 21. I grew up in the city and either walked or hitched a ride from friends. I spent alot of time in NYC in my younger days, so we took public transport. I have a niece that is 22 and has had 3 accidents and totalled 1 car so far. She is an absolute horror behind the wheel. I have had 2 accidents, but got rear ended and have a clean driving record. But it doesn't hurt to have an uncle that is a State Police...

Well first they check to see if you can write a sentence that can be interpreted as English and doesnt have caps every word. :P

Im just playin with ya man.

Down here in Arizona you have to be 15yrs old and 7 months to take the written test which I believe is the easiest 20 questions ever. At 16 you can take your road test. After the parallel parking its cake.

driving whilst holding your cellphone and talking is illegal over here in england aswell, i think you can have a hands free system though.
