In the months after the 2006 Mr. Olympia contest, there have been differing opinions concerning how eight-time champ Ronnie Coleman has reacted to the loss. Now, in a recent development, controversial comments attributed to Coleman surrounding his Olympia defeat at the hands of Jay Cutler have been released online.
The comments were posted at ProSource.net under Coleman’s screen name. Here are the posts in their entirety: "Trust me dude, I am fully aware of all the haters out there and the things they say...Well I'm just gone piss them off more when I come back next year and kick Jays butt....Those people will use just about any excuse to make themselves feel better about their boy Jay...Well I'm gonna show them that this 43 year old is on a different standard than what they're on...My genetics are far superior to theirs and their boy Jay too, aint no need to brag about it though, I got 8 title's to Jays 1 that says it all...Thanks for the support brother" .....with this as a follow up, "It was all over the internet before the show so they just decided to run with it...Once they did, all the magazines just figured, what the hell, that sounds good to us...Mostly they all kinda wanted Jay to win deep down in their hearts...Its just human nature with most people anyway just to cheer for the underdog and being white sure helped Jay a lot too....." ***The above article featured in a Flex magazine and online debate*** -------------------------------------------------------------------------- I'm not sure as an outsider what the hell Ronnie was thinking about posting these comments. When questioned about them he said it wasn't him who posted them, it must have been someone else, pretending to be him. I don't know too much about the subject to make a clear call but I can say this. I'm was never a Coleman fan and I always cheered on Jay, but I always had respect for Ronnie. The kind of repect 8 Mr. Olympia's bring. It's nothing about being black or white, these comments certainly are racist and I hope he didn't make any remarks of this kind, but the only reason I can find why everybody wanted Jay to win was not because of what culture or what colour your skin is, but because we, as human's, root continuely for the underdog. I was pleased for Jay but I also didn't want Ronnie taking anything away from the legacy of Lee Haney, and winning his 9th, would of certainly done just that. Even as Jay said himself, we will not see 8-in-a-row back to back wins ever again. That era is gone in bodybuilding I feel. Ronnie was the last, and to be honest many feel Jay Cutler may have a difficult time reclaiming his Mr. Olympia status later this year. The reason for this is that there are so many great competitors climbing the mountain these days. Dex Jackson will certainly be a strong candidate come September. I would like to hear your views on the Ronnie Coleman situation...... Do you think he'll retire like many people advise him to do? There isn't any point coming back in September only to finish 3rd or even 4th. Maybe he should just leave the game now and take with him his legacy, only matched by legendary Lee Haney. It's better going out on top than hitting rock bottom because of pride. Or do you think he should risk everything and give it one last go?!!? Last edited by dowlsy; 01-12-2007 at 07:37 PM. |

Regardless of any racist comments Ronnie may or may not have said I think there wasn't any doubt that Jay Cutler deserved to win. Ronnie was in his worse shape for 9 years and Jay was in the best shape of his life. I think Ronnie will compete in the Olympia this year because noone wants to be retired like that, if he retires he'll want it to be on his terms ie. with a win. It'll prove a lot of people wrong and it would be the perfect way to end is awesome career. If Ronnie shows up anywhere near his best shape, Jay will have a real battle on his hands, that's for sure.
Ronnie's the first Mr Olympia since Arnold where the other competitors were only ever gonna get 2nd place for the vast majority of his reign. Being English i was a massive fan of Dorian Yates but he struggled to win 3 of his 6 titles and Lee Haney had at least 3 years where he just scraped through. Ronnie was just totally dominant and at his best he was unbeatable, the first ever Mr Olympia to look as good from the front as he does from the back and vice versa. I hope Ronnie competes in this years Olympia and that he's in great shape because if nothing else it'll be great to watch!
