Soda can warning!

This incident happened recently in North Texas.

A woman went boating one Sunday taking with her some cans of coke which she
put into the refrigerator of the boat. On Monday she was taken to the
hospital and placed in the Intensive Care Unit. She died on Wednesday.

The autopsy concluded she died of Leptospirosis. This was traced to the can
of coke she drank from, not using a glass. Tests showed that the can was
infected by dried rat urine and hence the disease Leptospirosis.

Rat urine contains toxic and deathly substances. It is highly recommended to
thoroughly wash the upper part of Soda cans before drinking out of them. The
cans are typically stocked in warehouses and transported straight to the
shops without being cleaned.

A study at NYCU showed that the tops of soda cans are more contaminated than public toilets (i.e). full of germs and bacteria. So wash them with water
before putting them to the mouth to avoid any kind of fatal accident.

This story is pretty old, if not this exact story, the general concept of someone dying from the rat urine on the can anyways.

Lepto is bad. Its running wild right now too! Its transmitted through the urine of mostly all wild mammals. It can live outside or even in standing water for up to ten days. It causes extreme accelerated kidney and liver failure. When I worked at the vet clinic, we would have to isolate the lepto animals and wear gloves, goggles and masks to perform simple tasks like feeding and watering. They couldn't piss outside because the other pets and wildlife could get infected (including us!)

Wash your soda cans people! Rats love scurrying all over those things in the warehouses!

Think of the billions of cans of soda, beer and other beverages consumed every day and one person gets a freak disease and dies. Your chances of contracting this disease and dying are astronomical. billion to one, trillion to one. You have a better chance of winning the lottery 10 times in a row.

You might not die but it's still gross. it's better to wash the can.

Not to ignore the warning but I have never washed a soda can, unless it was visibly dirty, in my life. And I am still kicking. And I eat raw eggs too!

Id say those are safer cause you remove the top which is the cap before you drink out of it.
