my rant about a tree

Last spring I had an Oak tree removed from my back yard. The roots cracked my patio heading for the house. It had to go.

At the begining of November this community compliance person came to see if I had planted another tree. I was like "what ..what do you mean did I plant a tree" I said "No no you must be mistaken...we had a tree taken out"

Turns out if you take a tree out ...you have to put one back. I dont want another tree. I have an orange tree, grape fruit tree, and a 60 ft palm in the front yard. There isnt any place to put a tree.

Ok....Ill get a small tree and just put it somewhere out of the way. NOOOOOOOO, it has to be a "canopy tree" Min height 35 ft.

On a side note: The city plays this program on public access about trees. The main topic stressing picking the right tree..thinking about where the adult tree will grow when planting..proper pruning. What a public nuisance it is years down the road, what happens in hurrcanes And the hazards...blablabla

I went to every nursery in town and there wasn't much in the way of trees. the dude gave me a week to plant it. Ummmmmm, I wasn't home when he came to see if we had complied. But gave me an extention till today.

I have not put this off, I have to every website there is on every tree thats on this list. There just wasn't anything. So I called the guy this morning.
I told him ..."look Ill plant the tree, but in 5-10 years some one will be in to pull a permit to have it removed too." "there isn't a practical place..bla bla bla" "it will crack a side walk, driveway, grow into powerlines, no matter where I put a tree"

I offered to sponsor some trees in our local park. But.... NOOO I still gotta plant the tree in my yard. I DO NOT WANT A TREE

So he tells me to call the city consultant, he can help guide me on what tree. Turns out, the consultant was a guy that park his landscaping trucks the same place the ole man parks his trucks. So he hooked it up with wholesale place under his company name.

Ok, I bought a Chinese Elm .....




Where an I going to plant this freakin thing.........

Thats what I said at the nursery...I was like "how much is this tree...$130..What?" "and how much is the fine?"

It's $1000 if you dont plant it...and until you plant. cha ching $$$

"What if I plant a cheat crappy tree and take it out after they inspect"

That's a $5000 fine when they come back and inspect in 7 months and the tree isn't there. Cha ching $$$

so much for low insurance rates and cost of living in Sunshine state.. They cha ching you somehow!!!! I never heard of that here in NJ, the Garden State

When do they stop checking?? Maybe in a few years you can take it out quietly, no permits involved, just rip out while it's stil young???

Dam Florida sounds a little chaotic

Over here they let the kids get away with spray painting on walls, but yours cant even spit on a sidewalk??? Somethings not right there.

This high school was graded a D-. Alot of misguided youth. Local law enforcement here is no joke. They make it their business to know all these kids by first name. Sometimes they harrass the kids and go to far with being sticked on them.
