Default Help buying a big screen tv

need some help with buying a tv. i have about $2000 budget for my new TV.

Is it worth it to get a 52" projection that has 1080p resolution

or get a LCD 42" that only has 720p resolution.

basically around the same price.

trying to decide if its worth getting a projection in higher reslution compared to a lower resolution tv but it being LCD.

the projection is a DLP.

you can get a DLP in high def TV in either projection, plasma or LCD.

i agree, stay away with the plasma.

2000 is enough to get something really nice.

I am in the same situation. DLP is my front runner right now, but a hi def plasma is still in the running if i decide to put it on the wall. You cant go wrong with dlp, and I am too worried about burn in to even consider a RPTV.

Oh great, a topic on my second favorite hobby

This could turn into a long long tread. But we need more information, just like you asking about a routine, we ask about age and experience.

So....

We know the budget.

What do you watch a lot of? TV or DVD

Do you have Cable or Sat.?

Do you currently have High Def? (are you familiar with 720,1080, etc.)

What is your viewing distance from you TV to couch?

Can you control the light source in the room (is it open to lots of windows, or in the basement)

Do you have a desire to go with HD DVD or Blu Ray?

What devices do you currently have to connect to the TV? VCR, DVD, Game Console, Sat., PC, etc?

Do you currently have a Home Theater Reciever, or a 5.1/7.1 setup for sound?

There are advant. and disadv. to DLP, Plasma, and LCD. This is like asking which is the best tasting protein.

Dlp's are cool if youre looking straight at them. Get off to one side or the other though and thats where the plasma shines. Not to mention the bulb having to be replaced in the dlp pretty frequently is an added cost to figure in.

not true on the newer models. Most bulbs now average 7000 hours, as opposed to 3000 hours when they were first introduced last year. This will soon be replaced with LED's, which will never need to be replaced. Mits is currently working on this and should be something we see next fall/winter.

We bought a 50" Pioneer Elite a while back and haven't had any problems. It's a plasma and the picture is better then anything i've seen in the stores.

I did for 6 months as a second job to pay for some xmas presents (years ago). It was great being treated like a genius at a store where the average age seemed to be 18. HT has been a hobby of mine for about 8 years.. just a youngen'.

I hated that job, and hope to never have to do that again. Just idiots. You should see me drilling those young guys. I mean questions that they should know and have no clue about. The past weekend I overheard one of the blue shirts explaining what Progressive and Interlaced means. It was so bad, even my wife looked at me and said "..that is so wrong". I told her I loved her right then and there. She's not the most technical, but she recognize someone talking out their ass.

Plasma look very good, dlp are just i notch lower but you are able to change the setting on the screen to be a little more brighter. looks just as good as the plasma.
