Default my 'Flags of Our Fathers' movie review.

Well im a huge war movie fan. Movies based on war and history is probably 3/4's of my movie collection and this movie seemed to be the best war movie with the previews.

I'll be honest, it (to me) was an enourmous let-down. Being well educated on the attack of Iwo Jima Island, this movie really didnt even touch base on the factual side of the campaign itself. Its main focus was the factual side of the picture of the soliders rasing the flag which to me was a total upset seeing the previews led me and all 5 of my friends that came with me to a "Saving Private Ryan" like movie. It was more of a 'tear-jerker' and im sorry, but the set-up was way off. It would pop in and out of the war scenes (the war scenes was the BEST war footage and effects that I have ever seen in any war movie, EVER) but the constant switching to cool war scenes to a lame and boring side of the movie totally took away my hopes of a good movie.

I give it a generous 2.5 out of 5 stars. I would recommend you see it, but if your thinking its a Saving Private Ryan typew movie, be prepared for a complete upset.

i thought jarhead was an awesome movie...it kinda flopped but i blame that on the nature of the first gulf war, not the movie really. from what the history channel has taught me about the first gulf war was that not all of the soldiers in iraq got much action. i do love watching my war movies and battle scenes, but i thik jarhead really emphasized on the downtime and the internal issues that gyllenhaal's character faced.

yeah Jarhead was a total let-down in my eyes too but this Flags of Our Fathers by far surpassed the let-down level compared to Jarhead.

It had so much potential to probably be one of my all-time favorites war movies if it would have stayed to the war scenes and futher more displayed what was going on during the invasion and possible the complete securing of the island from the entire Japenese force. I mean theres alot of famous battles that happened there because the island was so strategic to both forces.

Well, if you're looking for a movie in the theaters, let me suggest TCM the beginning. I really liked it.

Best war movie I've seen is Band of Brothers. Sort of a movie.

For once a film where the americans did all the fighting and the fact actually stuck to the history books this time

so far movies are leading me to ignore history when it comes to WW2
