Default Yead, so I'm also pissed right now

Funny thing about getting tattoos in foreign languages, a lot of times the artist doesn't know what he is tattooing.

Example is today, where I asked to 'similis machinae' on my back, which means 'similar to a machine'. The E on the end of the machinae is important because it puts it in the genative case, which is what is needed to agree with the verb.

Well, I get home, and take a quick picture of the tattoo to see how it looks. I don't have the flexibility to see the entire tattoo while I am at the shop, but I trust him as he did my other one in chinese. It looks great! Except it's missing one thing.....

Yea, that E on the end isn't there.

He better fix this ****. In the design I sent him it WAS correct, and somehow in the process of getting it done he dropped an E, which makes my tattoo the equivalent of **** right now.

hey...at least it is easily fixable cause it's the end letter. It could be worse and they could have messed up the spelling within the word.

I'm sure he'll fix it. Good luck cafe!

That can be fixed quite easily and more than likely free of charge.

The tattoo looks good though. Looks better than what I pictured when you mentioned it in your other thread.

that's funny how you mentioned if the word was mispelled within the the word.

i remember seeing a pic of a guy getting a song title on his ab similar to tupac's "thug life". i think the tattoo said (something) "when your gone" when the your should have been a you're.

does similis declare an understood "i am"? I would think thats what you want... but just the phrase "similar to a machine" sounds fine too - just that latin doesnt like incomplete sentences. I guess what you have works, but yes, in latin, you need the singular genitive ending, which would be ae. I SERIOUSLY doubt that anyone would notice that.... I know i probably wouldnt even notice it without you mentioning it... and its not exactly incorrect in that its already an incomplete sentence anyway. Either way - its incredibly easy to fix

It looks a bit out of center, a bit over to the left, but if you add the E, it would be symmetrical.

Yea see I was a little confused on that, so I poked around here and talked to the latin professor. He's the one who gave me the translation I got tattoo'd, which is just 'similar to a machine' not necesserally stating I am.

It's not off..each word was placed on each of his shoulder blades. Seems very well centered to me. But I guess that's more of a perception thing.

Lol, he didn't purposfully drop the E it seems. When I went to print out the design at the parlor, the printer cut off the E perfectly.

So he added the E on there free of charge, and offered me a good deal on my next tattoo. It is a little off center now, but I'll be adding to it soon so it won't matter in a few months.

I'll get a pic up when I don't feel quite so lazy.

Here it is.

Keep in mind I will add to this in a few month, so consider this a work in progress

Haha, I hope I do. It wasn't on a whim so odds are I will still like it.

Least I can cover it up. I always wonder if those guys with full sleeves will like their work 10 years from now.
