Default Hard drive Cleaning

Another question for you computer gurus...

I am just going to start over with my drive. Its a new drive with a ghost version of my old drive and it had problems and Im getting new ones.

My question is, would it be better to wipe it clean with fdisk and then load my copy of Windows XP or just wipe it out with my Windows XP disc?

Does the XP disc get the hard drive as clean and wiped out as fdisk does?

I guess this is 2 questions...

Im going to need this to be translated to english and then ill help you

But seriously what are you asking, are you putting in a new hard drive? Or maybe your just clearing it? Or maybe your asking to straight up start your harddrive from scratch.

Its a new hard drive that I got this year but I ghosted my old drive's Operating System on it. It seems to get more problems daily.

I was wanting to wipe this new drive clean. So I was wondering what is better, using the XP disc or good old fdisk ??

I'd recommend fdisk... I have a version of XP that I got from school so im not really sure how the formatting is but i always rely on fdisk when starting over. It basically makes the drive as if you just bought it from the store.

Go with fdisk, its a proven method.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. Fdisk is a great program. I'll let everyone know how it goes tonight, if I can get everything to work and get on-line again..

If its a new hard drive there is no reason to fdisk. Fdisk is a fairly outdated utility anymore. I'm in the industry and honestly can't remember the last time i ever had to fdisk anything. The install disk will partition and format everything for you and make it nice and easy for you as well.

Yeah, the install CD would be easy but Im thinking that Fdisk will wipe out any trace of Windows XP on there and I can start fresh with a new installation of XP.

Fdisk just erases and creates partitions. Information really isn't erased. You will have to format after fdisk regardless.
