alright tonight i watched the movie green street hooligans...i think in the UK its just called green street...but im not sure...well they use that cockney rhyme slang crap in it....and i was wondering how on earth you guys understand that stuff....and do you make up words to use on the spot? and if you do make them up out of nowhere, how do other people understand you?

Most of my family are Londoners and maybe use cockney rhyming slang as a joke, cant think of anyone using it seriously? only on film that class all cockneys as criminals.

Green street i think is a bit too hollywood-ised if u know what i mean, theres a film called FOOTBALL FACTORY which was released not to earlier before green street which is way more nitty-gritty.

lol Heavy cockney slang is used by very few people, and you wont here it at all outside of London (on a serious note anyway). Green Street isn't a great movie, Football Factory is much better.

I think it is so funny when watching cnn or something and they add subtitles to the speaker...but he is speaking english, just with a strong accent...it cracks me up cause why add english subtitles? hehe

Like: "Go put the dogs in the peaun."

WTF is a peaun? I know they meant pen but geez!

Or, and this is a true story, I went into a small diner and ordered a chicken breast sandwich. When it was given to me, it was a fried chicken breast WITH THE BONES IN IT on white bread! Oh did I have a lot to learn!

when we first moved here we went out to breakfast and I ordered ham and eggs...they sent me this burnt up ham and it was from a boar, not a pink piggie like I was used to. It tasted wild and gross. That and going into a convenience store and the clerk is smoking. I realized I was not in CA anymore...at all.

oh yeah...I'm not from here. I didn't even realize how racist people were till I moved here! People are racist here! My husband went to get his hair cut at a barber shop and a black guy came in and they told him he was not welcome there and to go to Smitty's. My husband was disgusted and now he goes to Smitty's to get his hair cut .

There was a sign out on Harkers Island, right when you got off the ferry that stated "N88ger! Don't let the sun go down on your black A$$!" Heck, I had never heard that word "the N word" used with such venom in my life! I was quite startled.

it's just cockneys who use rhyming slang but I do understand it, long and flexy, nuclear sub etc etc - if I didn't know rhyming slang and they said "have a butchers at this" meaning butchers hook (look) then I wouldn't understand but if they said nuclear sub then you can guess it means pub
