Default Football Thread

Well, it's football season and I noticed there wasn't a thread on here for everyone to talk about it on. I love football and I'm sure I'm not alone. Post your favorite team and discuss week-to-week events here.

BTW, I'm a 49er fan through and through.

Here are my power rankings after week 2.

1. Jacksonville: They beat two SB favorites in the Cowboys and Steelers in back to back weeks. Add to the fact one of those wins was a shut-out of the defending champs and the Jaguars find themselves #1 on my board.

2. Indianapolis: The Colts are still the Colts and have one of the best teams in the league. The question about them arises in the postseason. They beat the SB contending N.Y. Giants in week 1 and took care of businuess week 2 against Houston.

3. San Diego: 60-7 is dam impressive. Out of the 3 teams that have dominated the first 2 weeks I consider San Diego the most balanced.

4. Chicago: 60-7. They've outscored their opponents by the same margin as the Chargers. However, I feel San Diego has more ways to beat you.

5. Baltimore: 55-6, nuff said.

6. Cincinnati: Carson Palmer is healthy and this team has picked up where it left off last year before Palmer got hurt, and that's winning football games. They're defense still has improvements to make but given that it's only week 3 and Marvin Lewis is in charge you can count on that happening.

7. Pittsburgh: The defending Champs have had a rough first start of the season with their QB hurt. One loss to the upstart Jags knocks them out of the #1 spot on my rankings but not the top ten. They're still trying to find their rythm but they are one of the deepest teams in football and will be able to hold their own until they get in sync. When they do, the NFL better brace themselves.

8. Seattle: So far the SB curse hasn't bitten them yet. With that being said they don't seem to be the same team they were last year.

9. New England: Despite all the personnell losses this team is finding ways to win, as usual.

10. Atlanta: I admit, I didn't expect them to be this good. We'll see how long the option lasts. Until Vick can show me he can win games with his arm the Falcons will have a hard time moving up on my board.

11. N.Y. Giants: They have one of the hardest schedules in football but are a talented enough team to make it to the playoffs regardless. With that being said I don't think this team has played as well as they are capable of, and that's the scary thing.

12. Minnesota: I'm still not sold on this team as being real contenders but they've beaten what many considered playoff caliber teams in Washington and Carolina so I have to give them their props.

13. New Orleans: 2-0 isn't a bad way to start off a rebuilding process. So far they've had a cupcake schedule and imo are yet to be tested. Their defense has definatly been a nice surprise and with new acquisitions in Brees and Bush their offense is better than ever.

Ya, Chargers are my team. Ya pretty well summed it up. The Chargers' D is underrated, even though it is well known they have the best front 7 in the NFL. No other team has the weapons on offense either. And they're only going to get better after next years draft with the supp picks and, if they trade Turner, another 1st day pick

They do have a pretty tough schedule. I was psyched by their win against the Eagles last weekend though.
Didn't think they had it in em.

The Giants are my pick to represent the NFC this year in the SB. They're well balanced and Eli has matured well in his first 2 seasons. I expect him to continue to improve this season.

Yeah...I'm an Eli supporter myself.
I cringe when he doesn't do something right cause I just want him to do good so badly.
I felt bad for him at first, coming into the NFL with all of this pressure to be as good as his bro (not to mention pops).
C'mon...those are some pretty big shoes to fill.

Plus the added pressure he put on himself by refusing to go to San Diego. He's done well though and there's no argueing that.

Oh, and I know the feeling you have towards him wanting to do good. Your team invested a lot in him. I have the same feelings about Alex Smith who everyone has picked to be a bust. He's posting a 93.5 QB rating this year, quiting the critics.

Eli is a fuking *****. Can't stand him. His refusal to play with the Bolts worked out nicely though. Got Merriman last year with their pick. I'd say Merriman, Rivers, Kaeding, Oben (if he ever plays again) was a great deal. I used to like Peyton, but not after what his family did.

I like Carolina and when Steve Smith comes back...things will be good.

Apparently he is the only WR that can consistently catch Delhommes throws.

Then why did he suck so bad last year PRIOR to the injury? Man, he's a turnover factory

Yeah, Im not sure what to think of him. I had higher hopes for him and the team this year. Its still early though.

sometimes its not a QB's fault... Sure he threw some horrid stuff, but picture the pressure that was on him when the defense just sends the first front people.

Bottom line, the vikings o-line sucked. I havent seen any viking games to judge this year offensive line but eh...

I haven't looked up the stats recently but the last time I checked Culpepper had more fumbles than games played.

I for one didn't jump on the Miami bandwagon this offseason. People were picking them for the SB. I never bought it. They still have a ways to go and Culpepper isn't their savior. Their defense is aging and their o-line has always been questionable.

On another note, my 49ers actually look like an nfl team this year. I'm hoping philly doesn't deflate them this weekend. In a homer pick I'm picking San Fran in an upset.
