Default Best Reason NOT to lift weights!

I just had to make this thread!

Backstory:

I was leaving work this morning and overheard a lady that has struggled with diets, exercise, love life, you know; everything we all deal with. Any way, this lady had joined a BIG NAMED gym and had really started to make improvements. She is over 50 and has about 25 pounds she wanted to lose. In the conversation I heard she was telling someone else that she has decided to dump the gym because she gets better exercise ..... Ready????

By Bowling!

Yep. Picking up a 10 pound ball (you just know I had to ask) and throwing it down an alley is better, in her mind then the 4 inches she had lost. In the 8 months she was a member of this gym! WTF!

With all the trainers I know we have on this site, and those of us who JUST DO IT, what is the best/funniest/lamest excuse you have heard to drop out of the gym?

no reason to drop out of a gym, but my mom started bowling on a league and she lost weight.

Still laughing.. I haven't stopped laughing this morning.

Bowling.. thats funny! Haven't heard too many funny or best excuses.. Most people I know just do it!.. The biggest one I have a problem with is TIME.. "I don't have the time", "there isn't enough time in the day".. bla bla bla..

That one sucks!!!
There is no excuse! Bite me!!!

I am not bashing bowling at all. Oh no, I am glad that this lady is doing something. But I have watched her struggle for the last 6 years with her weight and self-esteem. She was doing so well in her gym routines and diet. Now, she is complaining about her clothes are too small again, her Weight Watchers is too complicated, etc. She and I had talked nutrition and work out routines and I was watching her get great results. Suddenly! Bam! She quits. After all she had done she tosses it!

Wasn't ranking on the bowling.. I just thought it was funny!! I like to bowl.

Yes.. Time is a lame excuse. I have a 3 hour sometimes 4 hour daily commute and still get to the gym 1 hour a day. My daughter suffers a little because she is @ daycare a bit late, but she has all my time and attention on the weekend. Sacrifice comes with being healthy/fit, as it does for many things in life. My only excuse is the true one, I don't feel like it today or have something urgent that I need to do. Otherwise, I am a gym rat!

And a very cute 'rata' too! Hey, if I can get to gym on 3 hours sleep in a 24 period AND make 2 classes of Taekwon Do any normal 9-5'er can get in 45 minutes.

Well, my friends does lift but he only does upper body work- really chest and arms.

i was at his house last week lifting weights. i asked him if he works his back at least. He said he only works out his upper body. I said why, he says- "man i don't want to get huge, my d!ck is gonna get small as hell"

wtf- he's like all the other noobs that only wants a big bench. He lifts 3-4 times a week. bench only. i tried telling him he's overtraining like a mofo but oh well, he's like some of the ignorant noobs on here that insist they know things.

a good one is when people my age say i wanna concentrate on my growing first, its like wtf, do stretch your self at night or somet, and they think it stumps there growth.

the one i hate with real passion is when people say, and my freind always says this, even though he moans about beinf chubby etc.

"I CANT BE BOTHERED" i could strangle people who say that.

lol, did you confront her about her contradicting behavior and attitude? Sometimes people don't realize their own cycles and bringing it to their attention can help. I'm not saying it will but you've obviously observed contradiction in her behavior and she probably doesn't even realize it.

This particular person is what I refer to as a one who wants a "quick fix". Give me diet, a pill, anything as long as I don't have to break a sweat. Being that she is "older" she thinks she knows what is best for her but she flies in the face of fact. I know better then to try and enter into a discussion w/ her about her physical appearance and exercise.
