haha. to answer buddies question though... next to nothing, if anything. most sub-pro tournaments only reward the winner. you usually dont enter it for the money tho, like any other sport most people dont plan on going pro they just have fun doing it.

and like any other sport or activity.. youll spend more money then youll probably ever make.

no they signed a 6 figure contract.. which is 100,000+. and they arent amateurs.. thats their ufc contract. even before they got signed by the ufc they were all high up in the amateur ranks.. and they all still had jobs that they had to go to every day to make ends meat. theres no money in fighting unless your a professional. if your going to do it... again its like any other sport, its fun, but chances are youll spend alot more money on it then youll ever make.

the 100,000+ contract is an entry level contract for most fighters. that doesnt include endosements many of them get. tito ortiz is making around 250 grand a fight.. win or lose, thats without endoresments or anything. but again hes one of the most well known mma fighters today.

No offence but UFC or anything along that line should be a bit more rewarding in the amateur ranks, the risk is so high, I wonder how many of em every year are permanately forced to leave the sport due to injury, It's awesome to watch though.

same with every sport, the money is in the pro ranks, otherwise everyone would be happy to stay the same skill level and people would like to watch two elmer fudds go at it in the octagon

like tkg said. how many guys blow their knees out in football? hockey? i have played hockey for 12 years and ive had 3 concussions, i completely tore my ac joint in my shoulder, a seperated shoulder, 2 broken hands, 1 broken foot, 1 deep bruised tailbone with minor fracture (couldnt skate without pain for 6 months), and countless minor injuries. and that isnt much compared to what most guys get. one of my best friends has had 8 concussions in 2 years and is forced to quit hockey by doctors. and the ufc's claim to fame is that no one has ever been seriously injured or suffered a career ending injury while in the octagon, while players have died playing hockey in the nhl. the nfl is probably even more brutal for injuries than the ufc and nhl combined. 99% or more of all fights, including street fights.. result in only minor cuts and bruises if any, rarley are their injuries in the ufc. the worst one i can remember is when forest griffin broke his arm.. no where near career or life ending to say the least.
