Default Kinda funny

Anyone happen to see that Pete Coors, owner of coors beer, got arrested a couple of weeks ago for DUI? The guy was in his own driveway and was only over the legal limit by eight thousandths of a percentage and they still arrested him. Sheeeesh. Musta been a female officer. Lol

in england you only have to be in possesion of your car keys in the parking lot to be busted for DUI.
I have had a few friends go back to their car to pick up a cd or something only to be busted by bored cops... its hard to say you were not going to drive the car

That's why in the U.S. TKD GUY we cops at least have to see you in the vehicle. Used to be if you pulled over, threw the keys in the back to sleep it off, you were ok. Not any more. Cops figured out "You had to get it here some how." I'll be willing to bet this guy gets a fine, community service (probably a Public Service Announcement) and that's it! Hell, his chauffer won't mind the overtime!

I thought that the keys needed to be in the ignition for you to get a DUI? Like say you were sitting there drunk, and listening to the radio or something, but not driving, you could get a DUI.
That's not the case anymore? I guess it's good as a preventative measure, but how can you say someone is Driving Under the Influence if they key part of the equation (Driving) isn't being done?

Anyway, about the topic of the thread, they probably knew who he was and figured they would make things a little difficult for him, just because they could. Hey...sometimes people get out of things because they're known, but I guess this time it backfired.

There is an assumption in the law of "reasonableness". Now, it is easy to argue "my friend drove here and I don't know where he went" and that has worked, but the assumption is that if you are in the car, the car is yours, the keys are yours, and the keys are inside the vehicle, a "reasonable person" would assume that you had driven the vehicle to it's current location. Of course there is a bunch of other stuff that cops ask LONNNNNG before we start charging and arresting for DUI!
Now about your statement that "people get out of things because they're known..." I wonder how the PR would have been if he tried that "Do you know who I am?" or "I pay your salary!" Hee hee, that would have been cute! Maybe he was man enough to say "Uncle". Although, I never had that happen.

Yeah, I guess there'd have to be other factors. Because what if I drove to a party, completely sober, then got plastered, and went into my car to charge my phone or something and call someone for a ride? Just because I drove my car there, doesn't make it against the law. It doesn't mean I was drunk while going TO somewhere....just means I used poor judgement WHILE I was there.
BTW...this has not ever happened to me, so I'm speaking totally hypothetically. I'm not a drunk driving afficianado.

I never ran across "that" particulare scenario! Sounds like what TKD GUY was refering to. Not sure I would try to cite for DUI when the vehicle is parked at a residence. Unless, of course, the owners want to know who is sleeping in their driveway? Eons ago, when Methesula and I were partying, I did pull over and go to sleep. Tossed the keys in the back of the station wagon. Cop knocked on the window, I told why I had pulled over. He saw where the keys were, asked me a few questions, said he would be back in an hour to check on me. Sure enough, 1 hour later he came back, checked me out, and I drove home! But that was way back when.... Yea I am Old!

Ah like "Fine Wine gets better with age?"
or "With age comes experience?"

Your just saying that because you respect your elders. Thanks but I am not for a home.

Does anyone realize he was probably seen driving the car by the officer or a witness and then he pulled in to the driveway ???

Oh im sure they were following him. The guys been on TV commercials telling ppl not to drink and drive. Haha. I just think if it had been a normal person they probably might have let em go given the fact that they were already home and they were so little over the limit. There was no way he was gettin a break.
