Road bike or dirt bike? Both the GSXR & CBR are good road bikes. |

Get a bike a generation or two back and you will be good. My '95 FZR costs me 200 a year and I am 19. Something like a 97-98 YZF-600 (Before their motors for nerfed for touring) would be a good choice for a beginner. If all else fails, get a FZR400, and stick a YZF600 motor in there. It's almost a direct bolt in except for bending the mid pipe, and it would make a bike that makes 80-90ish HP in a under 300lbs bike. Loads of fun.

If you and under 25, your insurance isn't going to be fun. Where in Ontario are you? I know a place here in Hamilton that has a R600 for $7000, amazing bike, was looking at it today while my bike was in the shop. I also know someone with a kickass Buell for sale, $6500 I think.

Sometimes the older bikes are more expensive for insurance than a newer one. I had a 90 Katana 1100 and a 98 GSXR 1000 and full coverage on the Katana was more expensive than the GSXR because body parts are harder to find and more expensive when you do find them. I could get a brand new set of farings for the GSXR for the same price as used farings for the Katana.

thats why I said get "liability" insurance only. there no point in having full coverage for a old bike thats not worth more than 2 grand.buy a old 600 first, get used to it, learn how to ride and then buy a powerful bike. You ll outgrow a 600 in 2-3 months if you really like to ride

If you have to get a loan for the bike, you are going to have to get full coverage. Nobody will sign off on a loan, unless you can just borrow the money without stating what it is for, unless the investment is protected.
