Usually you need some kind of conversion to get them to play since VOB files are just the raw data off the DVD. It's like trying to get an ISO to run without the software to mount it. There are programs out there that can convert it to AVI/MPEG/whatever but you can also burn it onto a dvd.

Any kind of dvd playing software should play these. I may be spoiled with my HTPC since I have all types of video editing/playing software installed on it. (along with ripping and burning DVDs ...for backups of course

VLC media player will play them, just highlight the .vob file and right click and select play using VLC media player. VLC will play basically anything.
You could just burn to a dvd with nero, that's what I do. |

Select all the vob files and then "play with..." I'm not familiar again, so not sure how much help I am. I use another media player. |

The lefthand pane should have a disc with folders under it, Audio TS and Video TS...from the pane on the right, open the folder with the data you want to bring over, highlight and drag and drop it to the Video TS folder in the left hand pane, then click burn and you should be good. It should burn with menu, chapters and everything...is this a retail dvd you dl'd or something? I use nero 6 and that's how I do it with nero 6. Hopefully nero 7 ultra is similar. Most full length movies can be split into two SVCDs, some even three depending on the quality, a DVD can hold a larger file size which means a higher quality rip. Other than that difference I'm not sure. |

If Im not mistaken, hanna, correct me if Im wrong. The DVD has a better picture and the video cd doesnt have chapters and menus like a dvd does. At least I think thats what I heard awhile back.

The dvd has a better picture (in most cases) because it does not have to be compressed as much to fit onto a cd. Menus take up too much space anyway, I don't keep menus on my dvds either...I just want the movie to start straight away. I believe an SVCD can have a menu, but why? There's not enough room for anything worth watching on a CD anyway. |

technically the 'menus' dont take up much space at all, least i havent seen one real big and i've went thru the process several times.. u can also create your own menus for non dvd rips like Xvid or DivX or whatever... Let me know if u want to do this and i'll type the stuff out
what gobbles up space is the foreign languages (french, spanish, etc) and most importantly, alternate sound formats... I agree with hanna, VLC Media Player pretty much plays anything and everything without the need to download drivers/codecs...
