Default Mean Muggers!!!

I'm a freshman in college and I work out at the universtiy gym. That place is full of egos....

What's funny about it is the big fellas are nice and they just do their thing and mind their own business. It's the average/ skinny dudes that seem to stare and give dirty looks, acting like they're tough ****. I'm 6'3" 217, so I'm not a small guy, but i'm not huge in my opinion.... it will be nice when I can go back to my other gym over summer vacation....

anyone else notice a lot of mean muggers at your gym?

To tell you the truth, you're sweating it too much.

You wanna know how I know?

Because you notice they're mean mugging. Follow the big guys. Learn from them. They come into the gym and do their thing like you said. You should do the same. Don't even look @ anyone. Fcuk a skinny mean mugger. I'll be damned if I let someone as big as me in the same weight lifting predicament as me look down on me or let their gay mean mugging get to me. You do your thing lil buddy and forget everybody else. Focus on your sets, on your exercises, on YOU.

The little fags @ the gym are just gonna throw off your workout and concentration. The reason why they're skinny is obvious. They go to the gym and lift some dumbells for 10 min. and spend the rest of their time mean mugging lol.

I can't say it enough: DO YOUR THING.

In this world, there's gonna be alot of mean muggers, it's up to you to decide whether you're gonna give them the attention they want or not. That's all they really want when you think about it. They mean mug you so that you can say something to them to give them a reason to be pain in the asses and start up problems like little high school girls. Screw them brother. Do you.

at school gyms, always. And you are right, the guys with the big numbers are the ones who don't bother you and don't stare. The skinny dudes and average frat guy always stare. i hate it when the guys that don't know anything stare. damn, pretty boys, lol

It doesn't get to me, I was just saying that it's something i've noticed. I do my own thing and work hard regardless of what others are doing. Just something I see when I'm goin to get a drink for example.

Although I do have one little example that I think is funny...

There are these two fellas in the gym and they like to mean mug sometimes (haha!) and I heard them say something about me when I was doing some upper body lifts. He said "I would rather be big all around than just up top" saying that I'm just an upper body guy. So a few days later on monday I was doing squats and they showed up. He started his squats and finished his last set struggling with 275 for about 4 or 5 reps, while I finished my last set with 315 for 6 with no trouble by myself. I didn't look at him or anything, but it just made me laugh inside knowing that he was talkin **** the week before.

been at my gym for 1 month now and so far i've become a well known face.
I don't take liberties by hogging equipment and i quickly call a bench if i need one when the guy is using it as a sun lounger between sets...

The average trainer there is joe average with minimal mass, no real bodybuilders there.

ignore the skinny gym rats, i've got a few and i just ignore the f*ckers...

I don't really know what "mean mugging" is, but I'm a skinny guy and I look at the bigger guys when they workout. I don't think I stare... dunno

I'm not gay or anything... I just watch them work out to see what lifts they do and how they do them. Then later, I'll mirror that and hopefully see similar results. I don't look at people because I'm mad or anything.

I notice people look at me a bunch too... It doesn't bother me a bit. I assume that when someone is looking at me it's because they want to talk to me or ask a question, so I usually just approach them and see what's up. Most people are very friendly at my gym.

Thanks for bringing this up though, I didn't really know that it bothered anyone to be looked at. I'll try not to do it as much.

Mean mugging, to put it really simple is this:

Your mug is another word for your face.

If you have a mean mug, then it means you look pissed.

If someone mean mugs you then they're looking at you hard or in a nasty way.

LOL that's what NV Rover meant. It bothered him that people mean mugged him, not that they simply looked at him lol.

You need to take adv. of these situations. I would have looked over and asked him if he was finished warming up. Maybe even suggested getting him some more weights to "assist" his "lite" workout I'm nice, but not to people acting like dicks.

Not too many mean muggers at my gym, but its located next to a highschool so sometimes gym classes come over to workout as part of their class.

Its actually amusing. They put on rediculous weight, use terrible form, dont get full range of motion, almost kill themselves, then brag about the weight. Every time one of them goes to bench, i get my phone out incase i have to call 911. Its hilarious.

Recently a guy on the track team came in there. Hes prett thin, about my size. He throws 295 on the squat rack, goes about 4 inches down, nowhere near parallel, and comes back up. Does that about 4 times, then brags to everyone that he just squatted 300 pounds. I didnt want to start anything, so i kept my mouth shut. But had he tried bragging to me, i wouldve put him in his place.

The next time i saw him squat, he had less weight, and went down a little further. Still didnt hit parallel, but close. Ill stick with ass to grass, the numbers will come later.

I would take DannyBoy's advice and PRINT it! More of us should have that mentality and forget about people giving you the looks...if you think about it, they just do that because you got what they have been working hard for. The physique and decipline to go with it...Keep ya head up!

I don't know how you contain yourself. I can't in situations like this. I would be like "Daaamn bro you're off the chain with it. So tell me, how do you squats again because I've always wanted to do them."

lol I love making fun of people and they don't even know it.

Thats why its useless to ask someone how much they squat. The other main lifts are a bit harder to cheat, and usually proper form is not disputed on things like bench press.

But with squat theres a variety of places you can stop. You can go several inches above parallel, right above parallel, parallel, below parallel, and ass to grass.

Since were on the subject, i should mention another favorite character of mine that goes to my gym. My friend and i have nicknamed him, "the one rep wonder."

Apparently, he injured his shoulder (i think thats what he said, i only overheard him) so he only does squats. He loads up the bar, 4-5 plates on each side. Gets under it, goes down about 5 inches above parallel, goes back up, and racks the weight. He then waits about 15-20 minutes, and does it again.

Its rediculous. I finish my entire workout and hes still not done on the squat rack. The whole time im there he maybe does 3 reps. And people still come up to him and go, "WOW, HOW MUCH IS THAT??!?!? YOURE THE MAN!"

We just aquired our first transexual personal trainer at our gym, no dresses but heaps of makeup and a real gay tone to it's voice - oh yay!

I caught it staring at me out the corner of it's eye - I can only hope it was a 'mean mugging'!

Yes, but you are missing out on some of the funniest things to watch in person!!! I don't know where I would get my entertainment if people like this didn't come into the gym. Come on Traz, live a little, get out and enjoy the stupidity of others in the gym...hahahaha.
