also, if anyone is into this or knows much about it, what would be the fighting srtyle best to start out with? im 6'5 203, so obviously reach is an advantage with me, and sinc ei have really strong legs i was thinking something that utilizes kicks and kneestrikes might make sense. i also need to learn a lot of balance, since my cente rof gravity is pretty high

I would start out with wrestling, from what I have seen of the ufc style stuff most of the guys are solid graplers so I think wrestling would be a prerequisite for something like that.

Most people start with grappling. I have heard Brazillian Jujutsu is really good too...

if your not a few years in to at least one martial art you can get owned left right and centre...

its going to be a rough ride as UFC is mixed martial arts essentially (MMA)

If your going with a clean slate then you've got to learn quick or learn to tap out quicker

One of my instructors does MMA and he's a 3rd degree in Taekwondo, he's learning components of muay thai, brazilian jui jitsu and boxing. Due to his years in Taekwondo its pretty plain sailing as the principles are essentially the same (bar grappling).

Brawling is not fighting, you have to learn how to fight...

I recommend you study in brazilian juijitsu solid for a few years, all fights in UFC go to ground and its all about submissions.
Striking art, i say go for taekwondo or muay tai, get trained with western boxing also.

Becoming a great fighter comes with time and experiance

I've got 5 years of judo to my name, learning taekwondo and boxing when i can...

Totally!
We had a Brazillian Jujitsu showcase tournament here last year and it was awesome. It's a real strength building martial art and as most of the MMA matches end up on the floor it's one of the best for grappling techniques.

yeah im not looking for some Sunday-morning infomercial $99 kick yourself to victory program, i know it will take a long time and commitment, that is part of what appeals to me about it. like i said i don;t have any actual experience in it but the guys i've sparred with who do it all tell me i seem to have much better instinctual responses than most people without any training. i was basically thinking some kind of juijitsu or muy thai would be a great starting point. it will probbaly most come down to what types of MMA training are available where i live

oh yeah one mroe wuestion, anyone know how big the weight classes are in MMA? ive never really known that, in terms of how large a weight range you might be fighting against. my potential new trainer is 6'9" 316, down from 345, so im assuming he has difficulties finding opponents in his wieght class

A lot do Vale Tudo.. muay thai, kickboxing could work for kicking, power, and quickness. BJJ + judo for grappling/reflex/blocking.

You can't survive today in the octagon without brazilian jujitsu royce gracie made sure of that, also i would learn muay thai, karate, judo, drunken monkey style, every damn thing i could before i stepped into the octagon, but the first two are mandatory bra

yeah im am gonna prbably aim for just a few styles first, might as well get some solid foundations laid down in a few essentials before branching out too much.
