Talking Excited! I maxed on bench today.

I usually do dumbbell flies and tricep workouts instead of bench press because I'm terrified I'll squish myself and I don't like having a spotter. But I wanted to start throwing bench press into my routine that I'm working on so I needed to find out what my max is to estimate what I should be repping.

I put on 225lbs and did a set of two! It was easy too! It felt like I could have put another 20lbs (or more) on there for my "real" max. I didn't want to hurt myself though. I'll try again in another couple of months.

Yay!

Good max bench. You are making me want to try benching 225 but I think it may be a bit much for me as I can only get 185 up for 7 reps.

I saw your picture... You've got a lot of muscle so I'm sure you can do it or you're not far off. I was supprised I could do it beucase I haven't tried. Your triceps are big... Mine aren't great so it's holding me back I think.

If you can do 185x7 I think you have 225 in you easily, the only way you'll know is try.

Yeah, I'm bulking. It's been an uphill battle because of my body type. Eating tonz of food and keeping it in the 40:40:20 range it difficult.

You and I have similar body types I think so here's how I've been bulking:

I found that certian things make me hungry, for example... After I work out, if I drink a protein shake in water (4 scoops N-Large 580cals) immediatly after working out will make me feel STARVING! I think it's the protein that does it. So like 20 minutes later I can eat a pretty big meal.

Also, I buy yogurt because eating those make me feel hungry and they have a lot of carbs and are low fat.

I use the toilet first thing in the morning to make more room. It helps me pack away a bit more.

Taking BIG bites helps me put away more food. Sometimes I stand up to eat to make more room also.

Use milk instead of water in your protein shakes (except for the post workout shake.) And throw a bannana in. It adds about 200 calories in the same ammount of space.

My shaker bottle is shaped like a funnel with a flow valve. Similar to a baby sippy cup or a beer bong. Look at the ceiling and down the shake. The design really helps me drink more.

Drinking a carbonated drink before eating opens you up to eat more food. Also helps if you want to get drunk faster

I might think of some other stuff I'm trying. I'll let you know.

Body type has nothing to do with anything. As long as you stay eating and do the rest of the basics right, body type will mean nothing when you start growing. If you want to talk about "body types" then that would put me in the category under ectomorphs, correct? That didn't mean crap when I gained 8 lbs. in 3 weeks. Just keep doing what you're doing and REMEMBER THE BASICS.

The protein isn't what's making you hungry, in fact, protein has been said to be a good appetite suppresant. What's making you hungry is the fact that anything you ate before you worked out as been used up for the energy you just wasted so your body is asking for FOOD, not powder. That's why you use whey to keep your body at bay with it's hunger until you can get your hands on some good ol' solid and REAL food. You take a serving of N-Large 2 in water after your workout you said?

Bump on the yogurt. I love yogurt...I buy the one from my Publix around my area that has the fruit at the bottom. Yogurt contains some whey in it too I believe. Good choice if you're looking for a snack.

Well yeah....I forgot where I read that after abotu 15 minutes of eating your brain finally realizes it's eating and that's when you start to feel full from then on so it's common sense...

BIG BITES = FINISH MEAL QUICKER.

it's common sense but people don't think of that alot. lol amazing ain't it?

Bananas are good too but I eat one after I eat my meals. I might start throwing one into my weight gainer I'm gonna start taking though. (REAL GAINS Vanilla)

Sweet dude! Congrats!

It's weird, 225lbs sounded INSANE before I actually tried it. Now I want to work towards 300 =)

Congrats... benching 225 at 142 pounds is a damn good.

Was it a Complete bench, all the way down to touch the chest? Don't mean to doubt you, but that's a real strong bench for someone your size. Get it on Video next time, and post it up.

Good job! Maxing out on bench is fun It's a nice progress indicator.

Don't worry about having a spotter. If you bench correctly, the bar will end up just below your sternum, and if you fail a set it is easy to roll it down to your legs and get out from under it. So you aren't going to kill yourself without a spotter.

Are you asking me or dannyboy9?

If you're asking me, I'm 132lbs, not 142 (I wish I was!)

I went all the way down to my chest of course. I didn't make it bounce or anything like that either.

I don't know if camcorders are allowed in the gym. I don't even have a cam corder. BUT I could borrow one from the school next time I max. We'll see... I want to try and max again in a few months.

Maybe I'll be as strong as you some day
