there have been a few threads with people debating evolution, creationism and the exhistance of god... i knew this thread was about ET'S and christianity, hence the poll up top linking the two lmao.

That is why i referred to christians, its not a personal thing when you read the first post, poll and then my reply.

the debate was intended on the thread being started, think about it a little longer....

I have a faith of sorts, where it lies in religion is still undetermined and thats why i like these debates. My methods of putting forth my thoughts through humour obviously isnt translated as such to you

"bible folk" is a method of humor for me, offended? Grow a thicker skin, its not like i said something of racist nature, just a light hearted comment... get over it, no apology will be given for this.

Read my posts, if you read it in good humour you will realise its not an attack on religion...

My definition of life is- An amount of matter with the tendency to actively try to maintain it's ordered state.
It's from one of the laws of Thermodynamics that everything in the universe tends to disorder.
So a living thing is a certain amount of matter attempting to maintain it's current state, failure means assimilation with the rest of the environment i.e. death......
So no reason for life not to exist anywhere else on the Universe

Yes, there is the poll, and you made your comment. Then you called us bible folk and started putting words in our mouths.

Religion is not a joke, and i thank you to not make it such. Your mockery of the christian faith may seem like a joke to you, but it is very offensive to anyone remotely religious. The way you geralize people of faith is not lighthearted at all.

i'm not insulting christians, if i called you bible bashers then that would be out of order, i said bible folk....jeesh seriously, did you throw your toys out of the pram alot as a kid?

Quote:
You act as if this issue is a hard hitting topic in churches across the nation. This is actually one of the first times i have seen someone make this issue into a religious debate. Are you desperate for a debate about religion?
Have i? Where?
See my earlier comments about previous threads debating christian views on evolution etc and how this post was started with christian faith in mind.
I could even spin it further by saying that the inital post was insensitive towards people of different faiths and is there a need to relate ET's to god? But thats another topic and a pointless errand to do so as its the internet.

Quote:
What exactly are we covering our eyes to? The fact that there are many other star systems in our universe? That simply implies the probablity of other intelligent life, it is not proof. There is evidence and probability all around us, yet many people chose not to believe in it. Im sure there are examples of things you chose not to believe in or acknowlege that have substantial probability involved.
are you denying logic? Millions of stars, each having a minimum of half a dozen planets for example... logic says there is going to be life out there, its not a possibility.
People used to belive the world was flat, it was way before space travel that they realised it was unlogical to belive so... waiting for an ET to knock on your door is along the same line of thinking... outdated and lacking in logic.

Quote:
As for "prove it, wheres the proof?" I have heard countless atheists ask christians that about god, and id be willing to bet youve done the same thing. Hypocrite?
yeah i've asked alot about god, mohammed, buddah and all the others, i've travelled around the world a bit and spoke to a fair few people from different cultures. My mind set is "the jury's out" and i'm waiting to get accounts from all peoples experiances, views and faiths.

Blindly believing in something, unchallenged and going with the masses is not me... hypocrite? no, far from it.... i like to open my eyes and try to find the world out for myself. You should do the same, you might broaden your on horizons...

Quote:
While were on the subject of proof and certainty, it is important to realize that nothing is guaranteed, and unless you experience or see something first hand, you will never bee 100% certain. We all know abraham lincoln was once president of the united states, but did any of us ever see him or did any of us live during the time he was president? No, so any information we get is second hand at best, we are believing our sources, all our history books.
Histoy books is all propaganda to a small extent, unpopular events are not entered in school education, taboo historical people are not spoke of... history can be edited to omit or focus on anything and everything.

I think jesus did exhist, somebody must of caused such a commotion for people to still be talking of his work today. I think he was a charitable person, great public speaker who challenged peoples views on each other and society as a whole... etc etc A good person
Telling a story over 2 thousand years is going to get some extras added and alot of play on words, scenarios each time the bible is re-written.
A good story book, some truths, some myths....but the good morals are laid out.... my opinion.

Quote:
It is a crude analogy, but its true. Nothing is certain until you see it firsthand, anything else is second hand information that requires a certain amount of "faith" (key word, often used in conjunction with religion) in order for you to accept it as fact. Even science has its faith, so dont bash christians for having theirs.
Science is based on fact, the sides of science that is based on theories is always said as being that until somebody proves otherwise...

Quote:
I think you owe christians everywhere an apology for generalizing us and calling us names like "bible folk." Because I for one do not appreciate much of what you have said.
grow a thicker skin.... no racist comments, hardly a breach of TOS

time might be infinite.. but that doesn't mean things like our universe has to be infinite.. i feel like time and space is like a board.. the board might go on forever, but things written on it might not.. life must have started somewhere and end somewhere.. or else we would know about other existence in the other universe.. i dont know im beginning to confuse myself

What I don't get is if God could create such an elborate universe (as christains belive) Then why not other life other than us? It could be simple or complex but i choose ot be agnostic about alines. I don't know and It won't change my relgious stance ethier way.

I do belive in God ,and thats one reason I think there could be other life.

I think regardless of your religious stance you have to consider the possibility life on other planets...According to the law of averages there are too many other "worlds" out there for this not to be so...

I am a Christian and I believe that life is out there somewhere. It just seems impossible that it isnt, and i hope there is, i think it would be exciting.

Taekwondo....I am sure its just form talking to other Christians or something. BUt in your first few posts you did say stuff about how Christians cover their eyes or dont believe is other life or whatever. Most of the Christians I know do think there is the chance of something out there, so your generalization isnt actually correct. No worries, i know you didnt mean it to be mean, but I was just saying, the majority that I know believe that life does exist. Thats all.

"Nobody wins any insight, nobody wants to look outside their bubble of faith."

Thats a bit general as well. yes, i knwo people like this, but they are wrong, being close minded is just kind of ignorant. I dont think you could convince me that my faith is wrong, but its faith, thats the essence of it. But beyond that, anything is possible, every day there are new ideas and new ways to explain things. I dont know why you think it is Christians who are against all of that.

when i said that nobody wants too look outside their bubble of faith i was meaning all faiths, be it agnostic, christian, aethiest, muslim, etc

what we believe in is called faith

faith isnt restricted to religion but i get your point.

this is a christian topic, i made a comment or two about christians... off the cuff or generalised they appear its inline with the inital poll.

next time i'll try to curb the comments and explain a bit more lol
